[rv-7-88] • 7 श्लोकाः

प्र शुन्ध्युवं वरुणाय प्रेष्ठां मतिं वसिष्ठ मीऴ्हुषे भरस्व । य ईमर्वाञ्चं करते यजत्रं सहस्रामघं वृषणं बृहन्तम् ॥

pra śundhyuvaṃ varuṇāya preṣṭhāṃ matiṃ vasiṣṭha mīḻhuṣe bharasva | ya īmarvāñcaṃ karate yajatraṃ sahasrāmaghaṃ vṛṣaṇaṃ bṛhantam ||

Offer pure and acceptable praise, Vasiṣṭha to the showerer, Varuṇa, he who makes the adorable(sun), the donor of thousands, the showerer (of benefits), the vast, manifest before (us).

अधा न्वस्य संदृशं जगन्वानग्नेरनीकं वरुणस्य मंसि । स्वर्यदश्मन्नधिपा उ अन्धोऽभि मा वपुर्दृशये निनीयात् ॥

adhā nvasya saṃdṛśaṃ jaganvānagneranīkaṃ varuṇasya maṃsi | svaryadaśmannadhipā u andho'bhi mā vapurdṛśaye ninīyāt ||

Hastening into his sight, may I (worthily) glorify the aggregated radiance of Varuṇa, when he is theimbiber of the exhilarating beverage (expressed) by the stones; may he render my person n of goodly aspect.

आ यद्रुहाव वरुणश्च नावं प्र यत्समुद्रमीरयाव मध्यम् । अधि यदपां स्नुभिश्चराव प्र प्रेङ्ख ईङ्खयावहै शुभे कम् ॥

ā yadruhāva varuṇaśca nāvaṃ pra yatsamudramīrayāva madhyam | adhi yadapāṃ snubhiścarāva pra preṅkha īṅkhayāvahai śubhe kam ||

When (I, Vasiṣṭha) and Varuṇa ascend the ship together when we send it forth into the midst of theocean, when we proceed over the waters with swift (sailing vessels), then may we both undulate happily in theprosperous swing.

वसिष्ठं ह वरुणो नाव्याधादृषिं चकार स्वपा महोभिः । स्तोतारं विप्रः सुदिनत्वे अह्नां यान्नु द्यावस्ततनन्यादुषासः ॥

vasiṣṭhaṃ ha varuṇo nāvyādhādṛṣiṃ cakāra svapā mahobhiḥ | stotāraṃ vipraḥ sudinatve ahnāṃ yānnu dyāvastatananyāduṣāsaḥ ||

So Varuṇa plural ced Vasiṣṭha in the ship, and by his mighty protection made the ṛṣi a doer of goodworks; the wise Varuṇa plural ced his worshipper in a fortunate day of days, he extended the passing days, thepassing nights.

क्व त्यानि नौ सख्या बभूवुः सचावहे यदवृकं पुरा चित् । बृहन्तं मानं वरुण स्वधावः सहस्रद्वारं जगमा गृहं ते ॥

kva tyāni nau sakhyā babhūvuḥ sacāvahe yadavṛkaṃ purā cit | bṛhantaṃ mānaṃ varuṇa svadhāvaḥ sahasradvāraṃ jagamā gṛhaṃ te ||

What has become of those our ancient friendships? Let us preserve them unimpaired as of old;food-bestowing Varuṇa, may I go to your vast comprehensive thousand-doored dwelling.

य आपिर्नित्यो वरुण प्रियः सन्त्वामागांसि कृणवत्सखा ते । मा त एनस्वन्तो यक्षिन्भुजेम यन्धि ष्मा विप्रः स्तुवते वरूथम् ॥

ya āpirnityo varuṇa priyaḥ santvāmāgāṃsi kṛṇavatsakhā te | mā ta enasvanto yakṣinbhujema yandhi ṣmā vipraḥ stuvate varūtham ||

May he your unvarying kin, who was ever dear, though committing offences against you, still be yourfriend; adorable Varuṇa, offending you, let us not enjoy (happiness); but do you, who are wise, bestow on yourworshipper a secure abode.

ध्रुवासु त्वासु क्षितिषु क्षियन्तो व्यस्मत्पाशं वरुणो मुमोचत् । अवो वन्वाना अदितेरुपस्थाद्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

dhruvāsu tvāsu kṣitiṣu kṣiyanto vyasmatpāśaṃ varuṇo mumocat | avo vanvānā aditerupasthādyūyaṃ pāta svastibhiḥ sadā naḥ ||

While dwelling in these durable worlds, may Varuṇa loose our bonds; may we be enjoyers of theprotection (which has been given by him) from the lap of Aditi, and do you (gods) ever cherish us with blessingṣ
