[rv-7-87] • 7 श्लोकाः

रदत्पथो वरुणः सूर्याय प्रार्णांसि समुद्रिया नदीनाम् । सर्गो न सृष्टो अर्वतीॠतायञ्चकार महीरवनीरहभ्यः ॥

radatpatho varuṇaḥ sūryāya prārṇāṃsi samudriyā nadīnām | sargo na sṛṣṭo arvatīṝtāyañcakāra mahīravanīrahabhyaḥ ||

Varuṇa prepared a path for the sun; he set free the waters of the rivers genitive rated in the firmament;hastening (to his task), as a horse let loose rushes to (a flock of) mares, he divided the great nights from thedays.

आत्मा ते वातो रज आ नवीनोत्पशुर्न भूर्णिर्यवसे ससवान् । अन्तर्मही बृहती रोदसीमे विश्वा ते धाम वरुण प्रियाणि ॥

ātmā te vāto raja ā navīnotpaśurna bhūrṇiryavase sasavān | antarmahī bṛhatī rodasīme viśvā te dhāma varuṇa priyāṇi ||

Your spirit is the wind; he sends abroad the waters; he, the cherisher of the world, is the feeder on(ssacrificial) food, like an animal upon fodder; all your glories, Varuṇa, manifested between the vast andspacious heaven and earth, give delight (to all).

परि स्पशो वरुणस्य स्मदिष्टा उभे पश्यन्ति रोदसी सुमेके । ऋतावानः कवयो यज्ञधीराः प्रचेतसो य इषयन्त मन्म ॥

pari spaśo varuṇasya smadiṣṭā ubhe paśyanti rodasī sumeke | ṛtāvānaḥ kavayo yajñadhīrāḥ pracetaso ya iṣayanta manma ||

The excellent spies of Varuṇa behold the beautiful heaven and earth, as well as those (men) who, thecelebrators of rites, constant in sacrifice, wise and intelligent address (to him their) praise.

उवाच मे वरुणो मेधिराय त्रिः सप्त नामाघ्न्या बिभर्ति । विद्वान्पदस्य गुह्या न वोचद्युगाय विप्र उपराय शिक्षन् ॥

uvāca me varuṇo medhirāya triḥ sapta nāmāghnyā bibharti | vidvānpadasya guhyā na vocadyugāya vipra uparāya śikṣan ||

Varuṇa thus spoke to me, possessed of understanding; the cow (speech) has thrice sevenappellations; the wise and intelligent Varuṇa, giving instrumental uction to me, his worthy disciple, had declared themysteries of the plural ce (of Brahma).

तिस्रो द्यावो निहिता अन्तरस्मिन्तिस्रो भूमीरुपराः षड्विधानाः । गृत्सो राजा वरुणश्चक्र एतं दिवि प्रेङ्खं हिरण्ययं शुभे कम् ॥

tisro dyāvo nihitā antarasmintisro bhūmīruparāḥ ṣaḍvidhānāḥ | gṛtso rājā varuṇaścakra etaṃ divi preṅkhaṃ hiraṇyayaṃ śubhe kam ||

In him are deposited the three heavens, the three earths with their six seasons are shown in him; themost adorable, royal Varuṇa has made this golden sun undulating in the sky, he has made it to diffuse light.

अव सिन्धुं वरुणो द्यौरिव स्थाद्द्रप्सो न श्वेतो मृगस्तुविष्मान् । गम्भीरशंसो रजसो विमानः सुपारक्षत्रः सतो अस्य राजा ॥

ava sindhuṃ varuṇo dyauriva sthāddrapso na śveto mṛgastuviṣmān | gambhīraśaṃso rajaso vimānaḥ supārakṣatraḥ sato asya rājā ||

(Radiant) as the sun, Varuṇa plural ced the ocean (in its bed) white as a drop (of water), vigorous as anantelope, objects of profound praise, distributor of water, the powerful transporter beyond sin, the ruler of thisexisting (world).

यो मृऴयाति चक्रुषे चिदागो वयं स्याम वरुणे अनागाः । अनु व्रतान्यदितेॠधन्तो यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

yo mṛḻayāti cakruṣe cidāgo vayaṃ syāma varuṇe anāgāḥ | anu vratānyaditeṝdhanto yūyaṃ pāta svastibhiḥ sadā naḥ ||

May we be free from sin against that Varuṇa, who has compassion upon him who commits offence, wewho are duly observing the rites of the son Aditi; and do you, (gods), ever cherish us with blessings.
