[rv-7-21] • 10 श्लोकाः

असावि देवं गोऋजीकमन्धो न्यस्मिन्निन्द्रो जनुषेमुवोच । बोधामसि त्वा हर्यश्व यज्ञैर्बोधा नः स्तोममन्धसो मदेषु ॥

asāvi devaṃ goṛjīkamandho nyasminnindro januṣemuvoca | bodhāmasi tvā haryaśva yajñairbodhā naḥ stomamandhaso madeṣu ||

Bright sacrificial food mixed with curds and milk has been poured out; Indra delights in it from his birth;lord of bay horses, we wake you up with sacrifices, acknowledge our praises in the exhilaration of the Soma.

प्र यन्ति यज्ञं विपयन्ति बर्हिः सोममादो विदथे दुध्रवाचः । न्यु भ्रियन्ते यशसो गृभादा दूरौपब्दो वृषणो नृषाचः ॥

pra yanti yajñaṃ vipayanti barhiḥ somamādo vidathe dudhravācaḥ | nyu bhriyante yaśaso gṛbhādā dūraupabdo vṛṣaṇo nṛṣācaḥ ||

They repair to the sacrifice, they strew the sacred grass; the (grinding) stones at the ceremony are ofdifficulty suppressed noise; famous priests, whose voices are heard far off, bring the stones from the interior ofthe dwelling.

त्वमिन्द्र स्रवितवा अपस्कः परिष्ठिता अहिना शूर पूर्वीः । त्वद्वावक्रे रथ्यो न धेना रेजन्ते विश्वा कृत्रिमाणि भीषा ॥

tvamindra sravitavā apaskaḥ pariṣṭhitā ahinā śūra pūrvīḥ | tvadvāvakre rathyo na dhenā rejante viśvā kṛtrimāṇi bhīṣā ||

You, hero, have enabled the many waters arrested by Ahi to flow; by you the rivers rushed forth likecharioteers; all created worlds trembled through fear of you.

भीमो विवेषायुधेभिरेषामपांसि विश्वा नर्याणि विद्वान् । इन्द्रः पुरो जर्हृषाणो वि दूधोद्वि वज्रहस्तो महिना जघान ॥

bhīmo viveṣāyudhebhireṣāmapāṃsi viśvā naryāṇi vidvān | indraḥ puro jarhṛṣāṇo vi dūdhodvi vajrahasto mahinā jaghāna ||

The formidable (Indra), knowing all actions beneficial to man, intimidated those (asuras) by hisweapons; Indra, exuling shook their cities; armed with his thunderbolt he slew them in his might.

न यातव इन्द्र जूजुवुर्नो न वन्दना शविष्ठ वेद्याभिः । स शर्धदर्यो विषुणस्य जन्तोर्मा शिश्नदेवा अपि गुॠतं नः ॥

na yātava indra jūjuvurno na vandanā śaviṣṭha vedyābhiḥ | sa śardhadaryo viṣuṇasya jantormā śiśnadevā api guṝtaṃ naḥ ||

Let not th rākṣasas, Indra, do us harm; let not the evil spirits do harm to our progeny, most powerful(Indra); let the sovereign lord, (Indra), exert himself (in the restraint) of disorderly beings, so that the unchastemay not disturb our rite.

अभि क्रत्वेन्द्र भूरध ज्मन्न ते विव्यङ्महिमानं रजांसि । स्वेना हि वृत्रं शवसा जघन्थ न शत्रुरन्तं विविदद्युधा ते ॥

abhi kratvendra bhūradha jmanna te vivyaṅmahimānaṃ rajāṃsi | svenā hi vṛtraṃ śavasā jaghantha na śatrurantaṃ vividadyudhā te ||

You, Indra, by your function, preside over the beings (of earth); all the regions (of the world) do notsurpass your magnitude; by thine own strength you have slain Vṛtra; no enemy has effected your destruction inbattle.

देवाश्चित्ते असुर्याय पूर्वेऽनु क्षत्राय ममिरे सहांसि । इन्द्रो मघानि दयते विषह्येन्द्रं वाजस्य जोहुवन्त सातौ ॥

devāścitte asuryāya pūrve'nu kṣatrāya mamire sahāṃsi | indro maghāni dayate viṣahyendraṃ vājasya johuvanta sātau ||

The older deities have confessed your vigour superior to their destructive strength, Indra havingsubdued his foes, gives the rich spoils (to his worshippers); they invoke Indra to obtain food.

कीरिश्चिद्धि त्वामवसे जुहावेशानमिन्द्र सौभगस्य भूरेः । अवो बभूथ शतमूते अस्मे अभिक्षत्तुस्त्वावतो वरूता ॥

kīriściddhi tvāmavase juhāveśānamindra saubhagasya bhūreḥ | avo babhūtha śatamūte asme abhikṣattustvāvato varūtā ||

The worshipper has invoked you the sovereign Indra, for protection; protector of many, you have beento us the guardian of great fortune; be our defender against every overpowering (assailant).

सखायस्त इन्द्र विश्वह स्याम नमोवृधासो महिना तरुत्र । वन्वन्तु स्मा तेऽवसा समीकेऽभीतिमर्यो वनुषां शवांसि ॥

sakhāyasta indra viśvaha syāma namovṛdhāso mahinā tarutra | vanvantu smā te'vasā samīke'bhītimaryo vanuṣāṃ śavāṃsi ||

May we, daily increasing in reverence, be (regarded), Indra, (as) your friends; through the protection ofyou, surpasser in greatness, may (your worshippers) repulse the attack of the foe in battle, the strength of themalevolent.

स न इन्द्र त्वयताया इषे धास्त्मना च ये मघवानो जुनन्ति । वस्वी षु ते जरित्रे अस्तु शक्तिर्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

sa na indra tvayatāyā iṣe dhāstmanā ca ye maghavāno junanti | vasvī ṣu te jaritre astu śaktiryūyaṃ pāta svastibhiḥ sadā naḥ ||

Enable us, Indra, (to partake of) food granted by you, as well as those who, opulent (in sacrificialpresentations), spontaneously offer the (oblations); may there be ability in thine adorer (to repeat) my laudations;and do you ever cherish us wiḥ blessings.
