[rv-7-20] • 10 श्लोकाः

उग्रो जज्ञे वीर्याय स्वधावाञ्चक्रिरपो नर्यो यत्करिष्यन् । जग्मिर्युवा नृषदनमवोभिस्त्राता न इन्द्र एनसो महश्चित् ॥

ugro jajñe vīryāya svadhāvāñcakrirapo naryo yatkariṣyan | jagmiryuvā nṛṣadanamavobhistrātā na indra enaso mahaścit ||

The fierce and powerful (Indra) has been born for heroic (deeds); friendly to man, he is theaccomplisher of whatever act he undertakes to perform; ever youthful, he invests the (sacrificial) hall withdefences (against interruption); be our preserver, Indra, from heinous sin.

हन्ता वृत्रमिन्द्रः शूशुवानः प्रावीन्नु वीरो जरितारमूती । कर्ता सुदासे अह वा उ लोकं दाता वसु मुहुरा दाशुषे भूत् ॥

hantā vṛtramindraḥ śūśuvānaḥ prāvīnnu vīro jaritāramūtī | kartā sudāse aha vā u lokaṃ dātā vasu muhurā dāśuṣe bhūt ||

Indra, dilating in bulk, is the slayer of Vṛtra; the hero defends his worshipper promptly with hisprotection, whether he be the giver of dominion to Sudāsa, or the donor repeatedly of wealth to the offerer (ofoblations).

युध्मो अनर्वा खजकृत्समद्वा शूरः सत्राषाड्जनुषेमषाऴ्हः । व्यास इन्द्रः पृतनाः स्वोजा अधा विश्वं शत्रूयन्तं जघान ॥

yudhmo anarvā khajakṛtsamadvā śūraḥ satrāṣāḍjanuṣemaṣāḻhaḥ | vyāsa indraḥ pṛtanāḥ svojā adhā viśvaṃ śatrūyantaṃ jaghāna ||

A warrior who turns not back in battle, a combatant, one engaged in tumults, a hero, victorious over(his) foes from birth, invincible, of great vigour, this Indra scatters (hostile) hosts and slays all (his) adversaries.

उभे चिदिन्द्र रोदसी महित्वा पप्राथ तविषीभिस्तुविष्मः । नि वज्रमिन्द्रो हरिवान्मिमिक्षन्त्समन्धसा मदेषु वा उवोच ॥

ubhe cidindra rodasī mahitvā paprātha taviṣībhistuviṣmaḥ | ni vajramindro harivānmimikṣantsamandhasā madeṣu vā uvoca ||

Opulent Indra, you have filled both heaven and earth with your magnitutde, your energies; Indra, thelord of horses, brandishing the thunderbolt, is gratified at sacrifices by the (sacrificial) food.

वृषा जजान वृषणं रणाय तमु चिन्नारी नर्यं ससूव । प्र यः सेनानीरध नृभ्यो अस्तीनः सत्वा गवेषणः स धृष्णुः ॥

vṛṣā jajāna vṛṣaṇaṃ raṇāya tamu cinnārī naryaṃ sasūva | pra yaḥ senānīradha nṛbhyo astīnaḥ satvā gaveṣaṇaḥ sa dhṛṣṇuḥ ||

(His) progenitor begot Indra, the showerer (of benefits) for (the purpose of) war; his mother brought himforth the benefactor of man; the leader of armies who is chief over men, he is the lord, the conqueror, therecoverer of the kine, the subduer of foes.

नू चित्स भ्रेषते जनो न रेषन्मनो यो अस्य घोरमाविवासात् । यज्ञैर्य इन्द्रे दधते दुवांसि क्षयत्स राय ऋतपा ऋतेजाः ॥

nū citsa bhreṣate jano na reṣanmano yo asya ghoramāvivāsāt | yajñairya indre dadhate duvāṃsi kṣayatsa rāya ṛtapā ṛtejāḥ ||

He who devotes his mind to the terrible Indra never falls (from his condition), nor will he perish; theprotector of sacred rites, the progeny of sacrifice, bestows riches on him who offers to Indra praises and prayerswith sacrifices.

यदिन्द्र पूर्वो अपराय शिक्षन्नयज्ज्यायान्कनीयसो देष्णम् । अमृत इत्पर्यासीत दूरमा चित्र चित्र्यं भरा रयिं नः ॥

yadindra pūrvo aparāya śikṣannayajjyāyānkanīyaso deṣṇam | amṛta itparyāsīta dūramā citra citryaṃ bharā rayiṃ naḥ ||

That (wealth) Indra, which the prior has given to the posterior; which the elder may accept from theyounger; with which (the son) yet living dwells far away (separated from his father), confer, wonderful Indra, suchprecious riches upon us.

यस्त इन्द्र प्रियो जनो ददाशदसन्निरेके अद्रिवः सखा ते । वयं ते अस्यां सुमतौ चनिष्ठाः स्याम वरूथे अघ्नतो नृपीतौ ॥

yasta indra priyo jano dadāśadasannireke adrivaḥ sakhā te | vayaṃ te asyāṃ sumatau caniṣṭhāḥ syāma varūthe aghnato nṛpītau ||

May the man who is dear to you, Indra, present (oblations); may he be your friend, wielder of thethunderbolt, he (assiduous) in donations; may we be abounding in food through this favour of you who aredevoid of cruelty, (may we be in the enjoyment of) a dwelling giving shelter to men.

एष स्तोमो अचिक्रदद्वृषा त उत स्तामुर्मघवन्नक्रपिष्ट । रायस्कामो जरितारं त आगन्त्वमङ्ग शक्र वस्व आ शको नः ॥

eṣa stomo acikradadvṛṣā ta uta stāmurmaghavannakrapiṣṭa | rāyaskāmo jaritāraṃ ta āgantvamaṅga śakra vasva ā śako naḥ ||

For you, Maghavan, this showering Soma (libation) cries aloud; to you the worshipper has recitedpraises; the desire of riches has fallen upon thine adorer, do you, therefore, Śakra, bestow quickly upon uswealth.

स न इन्द्र त्वयताया इषे धास्त्मना च ये मघवानो जुनन्ति । वस्वी षु ते जरित्रे अस्तु शक्तिर्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

sa na indra tvayatāyā iṣe dhāstmanā ca ye maghavāno junanti | vasvī ṣu te jaritre astu śaktiryūyaṃ pāta svastibhiḥ sadā naḥ ||

Enable us, Indra, (to partake of) food granted by you, as well as those who, opulent (in sacrificialpresentations), spontaneously offer (you oblations); may there be power in thine adorer (to repeat) manylaudations; and do you ever cherish us with blessings.
