[rv-7-8] • 7 श्लोकाः

इन्धे राजा समर्यो नमोभिर्यस्य प्रतीकमाहुतं घृतेन । नरो हव्येभिरीऴते सबाध आग्निरग्र उषसामशोचि ॥

indhe rājā samaryo namobhiryasya pratīkamāhutaṃ ghṛtena | naro havyebhirīḻate sabādha āgniragra uṣasāmaśoci ||

The royal (Agni), the mater (of the sacrifice), is kindled with praises, he whose person n is invoked with(offerings of) butter, whom men associated worship with oblations, Agni, who is lighted before the dawn.

अयमु ष्य सुमहाँ अवेदि होता मन्द्रो मनुषो यह्वो अग्निः । वि भा अकः ससृजानः पृथिव्यां कृष्णपविरोषधीभिर्ववक्षे ॥

ayamu ṣya sumahā~ avedi hotā mandro manuṣo yahvo agniḥ | vi bhā akaḥ sasṛjānaḥ pṛthivyāṃ kṛṣṇapaviroṣadhībhirvavakṣe ||

This great Agni has been known among men as invoker (of the gods), the giver of deligh, the mighty; hehas spread (in the firmament), he, the darkpathed at large upon the earth, is nourished by the plural nts.

कया नो अग्ने वि वसः सुवृक्तिं कामु स्वधामृणवः शस्यमानः । कदा भवेम पतयः सुदत्र रायो वन्तारो दुष्टरस्य साधोः ॥

kayā no agne vi vasaḥ suvṛktiṃ kāmu svadhāmṛṇavaḥ śasyamānaḥ | kadā bhavema patayaḥ sudatra rāyo vantāro duṣṭarasya sādhoḥ ||

By what oblation, Agni, do you clothe our praise? What offering do you, when glorified, accept? When,giver of good, may we be the possessors and enjoyers of perfect and unmolested riches?

प्रप्रायमग्निर्भरतस्य शृण्वे वि यत्सूर्यो न रोचते बृहद्भाः । अभि यः पूरुं पृतनासु तस्थौ द्युतानो दैव्यो अतिथिः शुशोच ॥

praprāyamagnirbharatasya śṛṇve vi yatsūryo na rocate bṛhadbhāḥ | abhi yaḥ pūruṃ pṛtanāsu tasthau dyutāno daivyo atithiḥ śuśoca ||

This Agni is greatly celebrated by the instrumental tutor of the rite when he shines resplendent as the sun; hewho overcame Puru in battle, and shone glorious as the guest of the gods.

असन्नित्त्वे आहवनानि भूरि भुवो विश्वेभिः सुमना अनीकैः । स्तुतश्चिदग्ने शृण्विषे गृणानः स्वयं वर्धस्व तन्वं सुजात ॥

asannittve āhavanāni bhūri bhuvo viśvebhiḥ sumanā anīkaiḥ | stutaścidagne śṛṇviṣe gṛṇānaḥ svayaṃ vardhasva tanvaṃ sujāta ||

In you, Agni, are many offerings; do you with all your flames be propitious; favourably hear (the praises)of the worshipper; and do you of auspicious manifestation being glorified, spontaneously magnify (your) person n.

इदं वचः शतसाः संसहस्रमुदग्नये जनिषीष्ट द्विबर्हाः । शं यत्स्तोतृभ्य आपये भवाति द्युमदमीवचातनं रक्षोहा ॥

idaṃ vacaḥ śatasāḥ saṃsahasramudagnaye janiṣīṣṭa dvibarhāḥ | śaṃ yatstotṛbhya āpaye bhavāti dyumadamīvacātanaṃ rakṣohā ||

Vasi.ṣṭha illustrious in both heaven and earth, rich with a hundred and a thousand (head of cattle), hasaddressed this hymn to Agni, that such fame- conferring disease-removing, fiend-destroying (laudation) may be(the means of) happiness to the eulogists and their kindred.

नू त्वामग्न ईमहे वसिष्ठा ईशानं सूनो सहसो वसूनाम् । इषं स्तोतृभ्यो मघवद्भ्य आनड्यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

nū tvāmagna īmahe vasiṣṭhā īśānaṃ sūno sahaso vasūnām | iṣaṃ stotṛbhyo maghavadbhya ānaḍyūyaṃ pāta svastibhiḥ sadā naḥ ||

We Vasiṣṭhas implore you, Agni, son of strength, the lord of treasures, that you will quickly bestowfood upon thine adorers, who are affluent (in oblations), and do you ever cherish us with blessings.
