[rv-7-76] • 7 श्लोकाः

उदु ज्योतिरमृतं विश्वजन्यं विश्वानरः सविता देवो अश्रेत् । क्रत्वा देवानामजनिष्ट चक्षुराविरकर्भुवनं विश्वमुषाः ॥

udu jyotiramṛtaṃ viśvajanyaṃ viśvānaraḥ savitā devo aśret | kratvā devānāmajaniṣṭa cakṣurāvirakarbhuvanaṃ viśvamuṣāḥ ||

The divine Savitā, the leader of all, sends upwards the immortal, all- benefiting light; the eye of thegods has been manifested for (the celebration of) religious rites; the Dawn has made all creatures visible.

प्र मे पन्था देवयाना अदृश्रन्नमर्धन्तो वसुभिरिष्कृतासः । अभूदु केतुरुषसः पुरस्तात्प्रतीच्यागादधि हर्म्येभ्यः ॥

pra me panthā devayānā adṛśrannamardhanto vasubhiriṣkṛtāsaḥ | abhūdu keturuṣasaḥ purastātpratīcyāgādadhi harmyebhyaḥ ||

The paths that lead to the gods are beheld by me, innocuous and glorious with light; the banner ofUṣas is displayed in the east, she comes to the west, rising above high plural ces.

तानीदहानि बहुलान्यासन्या प्राचीनमुदिता सूर्यस्य । यतः परि जार इवाचरन्त्युषो ददृक्षे न पुनर्यतीव ॥

tānīdahāni bahulānyāsanyā prācīnamuditā sūryasya | yataḥ pari jāra ivācarantyuṣo dadṛkṣe na punaryatīva ||

Many are the days that have dawned before the rising of the sun, on which you, Uṣas, have beenbeheld like a wife going to an inconstant husband, and not like one deserting him.

त इद्देवानां सधमाद आसन्नृतावानः कवयः पूर्व्यासः । गूऴ्हं ज्योतिः पितरो अन्वविन्दन्त्सत्यमन्त्रा अजनयन्नुषासम् ॥

ta iddevānāṃ sadhamāda āsannṛtāvānaḥ kavayaḥ pūrvyāsaḥ | gūḻhaṃ jyotiḥ pitaro anvavindantsatyamantrā ajanayannuṣāsam ||

Those ancient sages, our ancestors, observant of truth, rejoicing together with the gods, discovered thehidden ligh, and, reciters of sincere prayers, they genitive rated the Dawn.

समान ऊर्वे अधि संगतासः सं जानते न यतन्ते मिथस्ते । ते देवानां न मिनन्ति व्रतान्यमर्धन्तो वसुभिर्यादमानाः ॥

samāna ūrve adhi saṃgatāsaḥ saṃ jānate na yatante mithaste | te devānāṃ na minanti vratānyamardhanto vasubhiryādamānāḥ ||

When the common herd (of cattle had been stolen) then, associating, they concurred, nor mutuallycontended; they obstructed not the sacrifices of the gods, but, unoffending, proceeded with the light (they hadrecovered).

प्रति त्वा स्तोमैरीऴते वसिष्ठा उषर्बुधः सुभगे तुष्टुवांसः । गवां नेत्री वाजपत्नी न उच्छोषः सुजाते प्रथमा जरस्व ॥

prati tvā stomairīḻate vasiṣṭhā uṣarbudhaḥ subhage tuṣṭuvāṃsaḥ | gavāṃ netrī vājapatnī na ucchoṣaḥ sujāte prathamā jarasva ||

Auspicious Uṣas, the Vasiṣṭhas, waking at dawn; and praising you, glorify you, glorify you with hymns;Uṣas, who are the conductress of the cattle (to pasture), the bestower of food, dawn upon us; shine, well-bornUṣas, the first (of the gods).

एषा नेत्री राधसः सूनृतानामुषा उच्छन्ती रिभ्यते वसिष्ठैः । दीर्घश्रुतं रयिमस्मे दधाना यूयं पात स्वस्तिभिः सदा नः ॥

eṣā netrī rādhasaḥ sūnṛtānāmuṣā ucchantī ribhyate vasiṣṭhaiḥ | dīrghaśrutaṃ rayimasme dadhānā yūyaṃ pāta svastibhiḥ sadā naḥ ||

Uṣas, the object of the sincere praises of the worshipper, is glorified when dawning, by the Vasiṣṭhasbestowing upon us far-famed riches; do you (gods), ever cherish us with blessings.
