[rv-7-66] • 19 श्लोकाः

प्र मित्रयोर्वरुणयोः स्तोमो न एतु शूष्यः । नमस्वान्तुविजातयोः ॥

pra mitrayorvaruṇayoḥ stomo na etu śūṣyaḥ | namasvāntuvijātayoḥ ||

May this our propitiatory praise, accompanied by oblations, proceed to you, Mitra and Varuṇa, ofreiterated manifestations.

या धारयन्त देवाः सुदक्षा दक्षपितरा । असुर्याय प्रमहसा ॥

yā dhārayanta devāḥ sudakṣā dakṣapitarā | asuryāya pramahasā ||

You whom the gods uphold for their invigoration, both mighty, masters of strength and of diffusiveradiance.

ता नः स्तिपा तनूपा वरुण जरितॄणाम् । मित्र साधयतं धियः ॥

tā naḥ stipā tanūpā varuṇa jaritṝṇām | mitra sādhayataṃ dhiyaḥ ||

Protectors of our dwellings, protectors of our person ns, Mitra and Varuṇa, perfect the rites of youradorers.

यदद्य सूर उदितेऽनागा मित्रो अर्यमा । सुवाति सविता भगः ॥

yadadya sūra udite'nāgā mitro aryamā | suvāti savitā bhagaḥ ||

May Mitra, the destroyer of sin, Aryaman, Savitā, Bhaga, bestow (upon us), today at sun-rise what (wepray for).

सुप्रावीरस्तु स क्षयः प्र नु यामन्त्सुदानवः । ये नो अंहोऽतिपिप्रति ॥

suprāvīrastu sa kṣayaḥ pra nu yāmantsudānavaḥ | ye no aṃho'tipiprati ||

May this our dwelling be well protected, liberal deities, on your departure, you who purify us from sin.

उत स्वराजो अदितिरदब्धस्य व्रतस्य ये । महो राजान ईशते ॥

uta svarājo aditiradabdhasya vratasya ye | maho rājāna īśate ||

And who are sovereign over all, and, with Aditi, preside over this unobstructed and great ceremony.

प्रति वां सूर उदिते मित्रं गृणीषे वरुणम् । अर्यमणं रिशादसम् ॥

prati vāṃ sūra udite mitraṃ gṛṇīṣe varuṇam | aryamaṇaṃ riśādasam ||

I glorify you, Mitra and Varuṇa, and Aryaman, the consumer of enemies when the sun has risen.

राया हिरण्यया मतिरियमवृकाय शवसे । इयं विप्रा मेधसातये ॥

rāyā hiraṇyayā matiriyamavṛkāya śavase | iyaṃ viprā medhasātaye ||

May this praise (be effective) for unimpeached strength, alone with golden treasure; may it (beeffective), sages, for the fulfilment of (the objects of) the sacrifice.

ते स्याम देव वरुण ते मित्र सूरिभिः सह । इषं स्वश्च धीमहि ॥

te syāma deva varuṇa te mitra sūribhiḥ saha | iṣaṃ svaśca dhīmahi ||

May we be thine, divine Varuṇa; may we, along with pious worshippers, be, Mitra, thine; may we obtainfood and water.

बहवः सूरचक्षसोऽग्निजिह्वा ऋतावृधः । त्रीणि ये येमुर्विदथानि धीतिभिर्विश्वानि परिभूतिभिः ॥

bahavaḥ sūracakṣaso'gnijihvā ṛtāvṛdhaḥ | trīṇi ye yemurvidathāni dhītibhirviśvāni paribhūtibhiḥ ||

Manifold radiant as the sun, Agni-tongued augmenters of sacrifice, you who have limited the threeuniversal sacrifices with comprehensive rites.

वि ये दधुः शरदं मासमादहर्यज्ञमक्तुं चादृचम् । अनाप्यं वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा क्षत्रं राजान आशत ॥

vi ye dadhuḥ śaradaṃ māsamādaharyajñamaktuṃ cādṛcam | anāpyaṃ varuṇo mitro aryamā kṣatraṃ rājāna āśata ||

Who have established the year, and then the month and the day, the sacrifice, the night, and the holytext, they, the royal deities, Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman, enjoy unrivalled might.

तद्वो अद्य मनामहे सूक्तैः सूर उदिते । यदोहते वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा यूयमृतस्य रथ्यः ॥

tadvo adya manāmahe sūktaiḥ sūra udite | yadohate varuṇo mitro aryamā yūyamṛtasya rathyaḥ ||

Therefore today at sunrise we solicit you with hymns for (wealth), which Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman,bearers of water, you convey.

ऋतावान ऋतजाता ऋतावृधो घोरासो अनृतद्विषः । तेषां वः सुम्ने सुच्छर्दिष्टमे नरः स्याम ये च सूरयः ॥

ṛtāvāna ṛtajātā ṛtāvṛdho ghorāso anṛtadviṣaḥ | teṣāṃ vaḥ sumne succhardiṣṭame naraḥ syāma ye ca sūrayaḥ ||

Accepters of rites, genitive rated for rites, augmenters of rites, fierce enemies of the neglecter of rites, maywe, as well as those men who are your adorers, be in (the enjoyment of) the highest felicity, all confirmed by you.

उदु त्यद्दर्शतं वपुर्दिव एति प्रतिह्वरे । यदीमाशुर्वहति देव एतशो विश्वस्मै चक्षसे अरम् ॥

udu tyaddarśataṃ vapurdiva eti pratihvare | yadīmāśurvahati deva etaśo viśvasmai cakṣase aram ||

That beautiful orb (of the sun) rises on the near margin of the sky as the swift, divine, white-coloured(steed) bears it along for the beholding of all men.

शीर्ष्णःशीर्ष्णो जगतस्तस्थुषस्पतिं समया विश्वमा रजः । सप्त स्वसारः सुविताय सूर्यं वहन्ति हरितो रथे ॥

śīrṣṇaḥśīrṣṇo jagatastasthuṣaspatiṃ samayā viśvamā rajaḥ | sapta svasāraḥ suvitāya sūryaṃ vahanti harito rathe ||

The seven gliding steeds convey the sun, the lord of every individual moving or stationary thing,traversing the whole world in his chariot for the good (of all).

तच्चक्षुर्देवहितं शुक्रमुच्चरत् । पश्येम शरदः शतं जीवेम शरदः शतम् ॥

taccakṣurdevahitaṃ śukramuccarat | paśyema śaradaḥ śataṃ jīvema śaradaḥ śatam ||

That pure eye (of the universe), beneficial of the gods, rises; may we behold it for a hundred years; maywe live a hundred years.

काव्येभिरदाभ्या यातं वरुण द्युमत् । मित्रश्च सोमपीतये ॥

kāvyebhiradābhyā yātaṃ varuṇa dyumat | mitraśca somapītaye ||

Unconquerable, resplendent Varuṇa and Mitra, (induced) by our praises, come to drink the Soma.

दिवो धामभिर्वरुण मित्रश्चा यातमद्रुहा । पिबतं सोममातुजी ॥

divo dhāmabhirvaruṇa mitraścā yātamadruhā | pibataṃ somamātujī ||

genitive le Mitra and Varuṇa, destroyers of foes, come from heaven with your glories, and drink the Soma.

आ यातं मित्रावरुणा जुषाणावाहुतिं नरा । पातं सोममृतावृधा ॥

ā yātaṃ mitrāvaruṇā juṣāṇāvāhutiṃ narā | pātaṃ somamṛtāvṛdhā ||

Come, Mitra and Varuṇa, leaders of rites, propitiated by the oblation, and drink the Soma, augmentersof the sacred rite.
