[rv-7-59] • 12 श्लोकाः

यं त्रायध्व इदमिदं देवासो यं च नयथ । तस्मा अग्ने वरुण मित्रार्यमन्मरुतः शर्म यच्छत ॥

yaṃ trāyadhva idamidaṃ devāso yaṃ ca nayatha | tasmā agne varuṇa mitrāryamanmarutaḥ śarma yacchata ||

Agni, Varuṇa, Mitra, Maruts, grant happiness, gods, to him whom you preserve from (the perils of) this(world), whom you guide here (to the paths of virtue).

युष्माकं देवा अवसाहनि प्रिय ईजानस्तरति द्विषः । प्र स क्षयं तिरते वि महीरिषो यो वो वराय दाशति ॥

yuṣmākaṃ devā avasāhani priya ījānastarati dviṣaḥ | pra sa kṣayaṃ tirate vi mahīriṣo yo vo varāya dāśati ||

Through your protection, gods, the man who worships on an auspicious day overcomes hisadversaries; he who offers abundant (sacrificial) food to you to detain you (at his rite) enlarges his habitation.

नहि वश्चरमं चन वसिष्ठः परिमंसते । अस्माकमद्य मरुतः सुते सचा विश्वे पिबत कामिनः ॥

nahi vaścaramaṃ cana vasiṣṭhaḥ parimaṃsate | asmākamadya marutaḥ sute sacā viśve pibata kāminaḥ ||

Vasiṣṭha overlooks not the very lowest among you; Maruts, who are desirous (of the libation), do youall drink together today of our effused Soma.

नहि व ऊतिः पृतनासु मर्धति यस्मा अराध्वं नरः । अभि व आवर्त्सुमतिर्नवीयसी तूयं यात पिपीषवः ॥

nahi va ūtiḥ pṛtanāsu mardhati yasmā arādhvaṃ naraḥ | abhi va āvartsumatirnavīyasī tūyaṃ yāta pipīṣavaḥ ||

Your protection, leaders (of rites), yields no detriment to him whom you defend in battles; may yourlatest favour return to us; come quickly, eager to drink the Soma.

ओ षु घृष्विराधसो यातनान्धांसि पीतये । इमा वो हव्या मरुतो ररे हि कं मो ष्वन्यत्र गन्तन ॥

o ṣu ghṛṣvirādhaso yātanāndhāṃsi pītaye | imā vo havyā maruto rare hi kaṃ mo ṣvanyatra gantana ||

Do you whose riches are connected together come to partake of the (sacrificial) viands, for Maruts, Ioffer to you these oblations, therefore go not away to any other (sacrifice).

आ च नो बर्हिः सदताविता च नः स्पार्हाणि दातवे वसु । अस्रेधन्तो मरुतः सोम्ये मधौ स्वाहेह मादयाध्वै ॥

ā ca no barhiḥ sadatāvitā ca naḥ spārhāṇi dātave vasu | asredhanto marutaḥ somye madhau svāheha mādayādhvai ||

Sit down on our sacred grass; come to bestow upon us desirable riches; doing no harm, Maruts delightin the sweet Soma libation presented at this season.

सस्वश्चिद्धि तन्वः शुम्भमाना आ हंसासो नीलपृष्ठा अपप्तन् । विश्वं शर्धो अभितो मा नि षेद नरो न रण्वाः सवने मदन्तः ॥

sasvaściddhi tanvaḥ śumbhamānā ā haṃsāso nīlapṛṣṭhā apaptan | viśvaṃ śardho abhito mā ni ṣeda naro na raṇvāḥ savane madantaḥ ||

May the Maruts yet unrevealed, decorating their person ns, descend like black-backed swans; let theentire company gather round me like happy men rejoicing together at a solemn rite.

यो नो मरुतो अभि दुर्हृणायुस्तिरश्चित्तानि वसवो जिघांसति । द्रुहः पाशान्प्रति स मुचीष्ट तपिष्ठेन हन्मना हन्तना तम् ॥

yo no maruto abhi durhṛṇāyustiraścittāni vasavo jighāṃsati | druhaḥ pāśānprati sa mucīṣṭa tapiṣṭhena hanmanā hantanā tam ||

The man, Maruts, who wounds our feelings, he who, rebuked by all, yet seeks, Vasus, to kill us, hewoudl bind us in the wounds of (Varuṇa), the avenger (of iniquity), such a man do you destroy with a consumingfatal weapon.

सांतपना इदं हविर्मरुतस्तज्जुजुष्टन । युष्माकोती रिशादसः ॥

sāṃtapanā idaṃ havirmarutastajjujuṣṭana | yuṣmākotī riśādasaḥ ||

Maruts, desroyers of foes, this oblaion is designed for you; do you, who are the devourers of enemies,(coming) with your protections, graciously accept it.

गृहमेधास आ गत मरुतो माप भूतन । युष्माकोती सुदानवः ॥

gṛhamedhāsa ā gata maruto māpa bhūtana | yuṣmākotī sudānavaḥ ||

Objects of domestic worship, munificent Maruts, come with your protections; go not away.

इहेह वः स्वतवसः कवयः सूर्यत्वचः । यज्ञं मरुत आ वृणे ॥

iheha vaḥ svatavasaḥ kavayaḥ sūryatvacaḥ | yajñaṃ maruta ā vṛṇe ||

Maruts, of independent strength, who are far-seeing, glorious as the sun, come hither, come hither, Iinvoke you to the sacrifice.

त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् । उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ॥

tryambakaṃ yajāmahe sugandhiṃ puṣṭivardhanam | urvārukamiva bandhanānmṛtyormukṣīya māmṛtāt ||

We worship Tryambaka, whose fame is fragrant, the augmenter of increase; may I be liberated fromdeath, and, like the urvāruka from its stalk, but not to immortality; let us worship Trayambaka, whose fame isfragrant, the augmenter of increase; may I be liberated from death like the urvāruka from its stalk, but not untoimmortality.
