[rv-5-58] • 8 श्लोकाः

तमु नूनं तविषीमन्तमेषां स्तुषे गणं मारुतं नव्यसीनाम् । य आश्वश्वा अमवद्वहन्त उतेशिरे अमृतस्य स्वराजः ॥

tamu nūnaṃ taviṣīmantameṣāṃ stuṣe gaṇaṃ mārutaṃ navyasīnām | ya āśvaśvā amavadvahanta uteśire amṛtasya svarājaḥ ||

I praise today that brilliant company of the adorable Maruts, lords of swift horses, who pass along in strength, who, self-radiant, preside over the ambrosial rain.

त्वेषं गणं तवसं खादिहस्तं धुनिव्रतं मायिनं दातिवारम् । मयोभुवो ये अमिता महित्वा वन्दस्व विप्र तुविराधसो नॄन् ॥

tveṣaṃ gaṇaṃ tavasaṃ khādihastaṃ dhunivrataṃ māyinaṃ dātivāram | mayobhuvo ye amitā mahitvā vandasva vipra tuvirādhaso nṝn ||

Adore, priest, the resplendent and powerful company, whose arms (are decorated) with bracelets, whose function is the agitation (of the trees), who are wise, and by whom wealth is conferred; they who are bestowers of felicity, whose greatness is unbounded; glorify the opulent leaders (of rites).

आ वो यन्तूदवाहासो अद्य वृष्टिं ये विश्वे मरुतो जुनन्ति । अयं यो अग्निर्मरुतः समिद्ध एतं जुषध्वं कवयो युवानः ॥

ā vo yantūdavāhāso adya vṛṣṭiṃ ye viśve maruto junanti | ayaṃ yo agnirmarutaḥ samiddha etaṃ juṣadhvaṃ kavayo yuvānaḥ ||

May the universal Maruts, who urge on the rain, come to you today laden with water; Maruts, who are wise and young, be plural ased by this fire which is kindled for you.

यूयं राजानमिर्यं जनाय विभ्वतष्टं जनयथा यजत्राः । युष्मदेति मुष्टिहा बाहुजूतो युष्मत्सदश्वो मरुतः सुवीरः ॥

yūyaṃ rājānamiryaṃ janāya vibhvataṣṭaṃ janayathā yajatrāḥ | yuṣmadeti muṣṭihā bāhujūto yuṣmatsadaśvo marutaḥ suvīraḥ ||

Adorable Maruts, you cause (a son) to be born to the man (who worships you), a ruler, an over-comer of foes, and modelled by Vibhvan; from you, Maruts, comes a valiant descendant, strong-fisted, mighty armed; from you (he acquires) an excellent steed.

अरा इवेदचरमा अहेव प्रप्र जायन्ते अकवा महोभिः । पृश्नेः पुत्रा उपमासो रभिष्ठाः स्वया मत्या मरुतः सं मिमिक्षुः ॥

arā ivedacaramā aheva prapra jāyante akavā mahobhiḥ | pṛśneḥ putrā upamāso rabhiṣṭhāḥ svayā matyā marutaḥ saṃ mimikṣuḥ ||

Like the spokes of a wheel, none (of you) are inferior (to the rest), but equal as days (of like duration); the sons of Pṛṣṇi are born all alike, none inferior in splendour; rapid in speed, the Maruts, of their own free favour send down (the rains).

यत्प्रायासिष्ट पृषतीभिरश्वैर्वीऴुपविभिर्मरुतो रथेभिः । क्षोदन्त आपो रिणते वनान्यवोस्रियो वृषभः क्रन्दतु द्यौः ॥

yatprāyāsiṣṭa pṛṣatībhiraśvairvīḻupavibhirmaruto rathebhiḥ | kṣodanta āpo riṇate vanānyavosriyo vṛṣabhaḥ krandatu dyauḥ ||

When, Maruts, you come with stout-axled cars drawn by spotted steeds, then the waters descend, the forests are damaged,a nd the bright showerer (of the rain), influenced by the solar rays, may emit a downward sound.

प्रथिष्ट यामन्पृथिवी चिदेषां भर्तेव गर्भं स्वमिच्छवो धुः । वातान्ह्यश्वान्धुर्यायुयुज्रे वर्षं स्वेदं चक्रिरे रुद्रियासः ॥

prathiṣṭa yāmanpṛthivī cideṣāṃ bharteva garbhaṃ svamicchavo dhuḥ | vātānhyaśvāndhuryāyuyujre varṣaṃ svedaṃ cakrire rudriyāsaḥ ||

On their approach the earth becomes capable of fertility, and they deposit in her water as their germ, as the husband genitive rates the embryo of the child; they have harnessed their horses fleet as the wind; the sons of Rudra have emitted their person iration, (the rain).

हये नरो मरुतो मृऴता नस्तुवीमघासो अमृता ऋतज्ञाः । सत्यश्रुतः कवयो युवानो बृहद्गिरयो बृहदुक्षमाणाः ॥

haye naro maruto mṛḻatā nastuvīmaghāso amṛtā ṛtajñāḥ | satyaśrutaḥ kavayo yuvāno bṛhadgirayo bṛhadukṣamāṇāḥ ||

Ho, Maruts, leaders (of rites), be propitious to us, you who are infinitely opulent, immortal, shedders of rain, renowned for truth, wise, young, greatly glorified, and worshipped with copious oblations.
