[rv-5-29] • 15 श्लोकाः

त्र्यर्यमा मनुषो देवताता त्री रोचना दिव्या धारयन्त । अर्चन्ति त्वा मरुतः पूतदक्षास्त्वमेषामृषिरिन्द्रासि धीरः ॥

tryaryamā manuṣo devatātā trī rocanā divyā dhārayanta | arcanti tvā marutaḥ pūtadakṣāstvameṣāmṛṣirindrāsi dhīraḥ ||

In the adoration of the gods by Manu there are three effulgences, and they, (the Maruts), uphold three luminaries in heaven; the Maruts of pure energy worship you, for you, Indra, are their intelligent ṛṣi

अनु यदीं मरुतो मन्दसानमार्चन्निन्द्रं पपिवांसं सुतस्य । आदत्त वज्रमभि यदहिं हन्नपो यह्वीरसृजत्सर्तवा उ ॥

anu yadīṃ maruto mandasānamārcannindraṃ papivāṃsaṃ sutasya | ādatta vajramabhi yadahiṃ hannapo yahvīrasṛjatsartavā u ||

When the Maruts worship Indra, exulting and drinking of the effused libation, he grasps the thunderbolt wherewith he destroys Ahi, and sets the abundant waters free to flow.

उत ब्रह्माणो मरुतो मे अस्येन्द्रः सोमस्य सुषुतस्य पेयाः । तद्धि हव्यं मनुषे गा अविन्ददहन्नहिं पपिवाँ इन्द्रो अस्य ॥

uta brahmāṇo maruto me asyendraḥ somasya suṣutasya peyāḥ | taddhi havyaṃ manuṣe gā avindadahannahiṃ papivā~ indro asya ||

Or,mighty Maruts, and you also, Indra, drink of this my copiously-effused libation; then the offered libation obtains cattle for the offerer, and Indra, drinking of it, kills Ahi.

आद्रोदसी वितरं वि ष्कभायत्संविव्यानश्चिद्भियसे मृगं कः । जिगर्तिमिन्द्रो अपजर्गुराणः प्रति श्वसन्तमव दानवं हन् ॥

ādrodasī vitaraṃ vi ṣkabhāyatsaṃvivyānaścidbhiyase mṛgaṃ kaḥ | jigartimindro apajargurāṇaḥ prati śvasantamava dānavaṃ han ||

Thereupon he fixed firmly heaven and earth, and resolutely advancing, filled (Vṛtra), like a deer, with terror, stripping off his covering, Indra, slew the Dānava, endeavouring to hide, and panting with affright.

अध क्रत्वा मघवन्तुभ्यं देवा अनु विश्वे अददुः सोमपेयम् । यत्सूर्यस्य हरितः पतन्तीः पुरः सतीरुपरा एतशे कः ॥

adha kratvā maghavantubhyaṃ devā anu viśve adaduḥ somapeyam | yatsūryasya haritaḥ patantīḥ puraḥ satīruparā etaśe kaḥ ||

Then, for this exploit, all the gods gave you Maghavan, in succession, the Soma beverage; whence you have retarded, for the sake of Etaśa, the advancing horses of the sun.

नव यदस्य नवतिं च भोगान्त्साकं वज्रेण मघवा विवृश्चत् । अर्चन्तीन्द्रं मरुतः सधस्थे त्रैष्टुभेन वचसा बाधत द्याम् ॥

nava yadasya navatiṃ ca bhogāntsākaṃ vajreṇa maghavā vivṛścat | arcantīndraṃ marutaḥ sadhasthe traiṣṭubhena vacasā bādhata dyām ||

Whereupon Maghavan has destroyed with his thunderbolt at once his (Śambara's) ninety and nine cities; the Maruts glorifying Indra in a common dwelling with the Triṣṭubh hymn, he destroyed the bright (city of the asura).

सखा सख्ये अपचत्तूयमग्निरस्य क्रत्वा महिषा त्री शतानि । त्री साकमिन्द्रो मनुषः सरांसि सुतं पिबद्वृत्रहत्याय सोमम् ॥

sakhā sakhye apacattūyamagnirasya kratvā mahiṣā trī śatāni | trī sākamindro manuṣaḥ sarāṃsi sutaṃ pibadvṛtrahatyāya somam ||

To aid (the undertaking of) his friend, Agni, the friend (of Indra) has quickly consumed three hundred buffaloes; and Indra, for the destruction of Vṛtra, has at once quaffed vessels of Soma, offered by Manu.

त्री यच्छता महिषाणामघो मास्त्री सरांसि मघवा सोम्यापाः । कारं न विश्वे अह्वन्त देवा भरमिन्द्राय यदहिं जघान ॥

trī yacchatā mahiṣāṇāmagho māstrī sarāṃsi maghavā somyāpāḥ | kāraṃ na viśve ahvanta devā bharamindrāya yadahiṃ jaghāna ||

When you had eaten the flesh of the three hundred buffaloes, when you who are Maghavan had drunk the three vessels of Soma, when he had slain Ahi, then all the gods summoned Indra, full of food, as if he had been a servant, to the battle.

उशना यत्सहस्यैरयातं गृहमिन्द्र जूजुवानेभिरश्वैः । वन्वानो अत्र सरथं ययाथ कुत्सेन देवैरवनोर्ह शुष्णम् ॥

uśanā yatsahasyairayātaṃ gṛhamindra jūjuvānebhiraśvaiḥ | vanvāno atra sarathaṃ yayātha kutsena devairavanorha śuṣṇam ||

When, Indra, you and Uśanas, with vigorous and rapid courses went to the dwelling of Kutsa, then destroying his foes, you went in one chariot with Kutsa and the gods, and verily you have slain Śuṣṇa

प्रान्यच्चक्रमवृहः सूर्यस्य कुत्सायान्यद्वरिवो यातवेऽकः । अनासो दस्यूँरमृणो वधेन नि दुर्योण आवृणङ्मृध्रवाचः ॥

prānyaccakramavṛhaḥ sūryasya kutsāyānyadvarivo yātave'kaḥ | anāso dasyū~ramṛṇo vadhena ni duryoṇa āvṛṇaṅmṛdhravācaḥ ||

You have formerly detached one wheel (of the car) of Sūrya; another you have given to Kutsa wherewith to acquire wealth; with the thunderbolt you have confounded the voiceless Dasyus, you have destroyed in battle the speech-bereft (foes).

स्तोमासस्त्वा गौरिवीतेरवर्धन्नरन्धयो वैदथिनाय पिप्रुम् । आ त्वामृजिश्वा सख्याय चक्रे पचन्पक्तीरपिबः सोममस्य ॥

stomāsastvā gaurivīteravardhannarandhayo vaidathināya piprum | ā tvāmṛjiśvā sakhyāya cakre pacanpaktīrapibaḥ somamasya ||

May the praises of Gaurivīti exalt you; you have humbled Pipru for the son of Vidathin; Ṛjiśvan preparing dressed viands, has, through your friendship brought you (to his presence), and you have drunk of his libation.

नवग्वासः सुतसोमास इन्द्रं दशग्वासो अभ्यर्चन्त्यर्कैः । गव्यं चिदूर्वमपिधानवन्तं तं चिन्नरः शशमाना अप व्रन् ॥

navagvāsaḥ sutasomāsa indraṃ daśagvāso abhyarcantyarkaiḥ | gavyaṃ cidūrvamapidhānavantaṃ taṃ cinnaraḥ śaśamānā apa vran ||

The observers of the nine month's celebration, those of the ten months, pouring out libations, worship Indra with hymns; the leaders (of rites), glorifying him, have set open the cave (concealing the cattle).

कथो नु ते परि चराणि विद्वान्वीर्या मघवन्या चकर्थ । या चो नु नव्या कृणवः शविष्ठ प्रेदु ता ते विदथेषु ब्रवाम ॥

katho nu te pari carāṇi vidvānvīryā maghavanyā cakartha | yā co nu navyā kṛṇavaḥ śaviṣṭha predu tā te vidatheṣu bravāma ||

Although, knowing the heroic acts which, Maghavan, you have performed, how may I adequately offer you adoration; most mighty Indra, we ever celebrate sacred rites the recent exploits which you have achieved.

एता विश्वा चकृवाँ इन्द्र भूर्यपरीतो जनुषा वीर्येण । या चिन्नु वज्रिन्कृणवो दधृष्वान्न ते वर्ता तविष्या अस्ति तस्याः ॥

etā viśvā cakṛvā~ indra bhūryaparīto januṣā vīryeṇa | yā cinnu vajrinkṛṇavo dadhṛṣvānna te vartā taviṣyā asti tasyāḥ ||

Unmatched (by any), you have done, Indra, all these many (deeds) by your innate energy; wielder of the thunderbolt, whatever you, the humbler of (foes), have undertaken, there is no one the arrester of this your prowess.

इन्द्र ब्रह्म क्रियमाणा जुषस्व या ते शविष्ठ नव्या अकर्म । वस्त्रेव भद्रा सुकृता वसूयू रथं न धीरः स्वपा अतक्षम् ॥

indra brahma kriyamāṇā juṣasva yā te śaviṣṭha navyā akarma | vastreva bhadrā sukṛtā vasūyū rathaṃ na dhīraḥ svapā atakṣam ||

Most mighty Indra, be plural ased to accept the prayers which we are about to offer, and the present praises which we repeat; firm, doing pious acts, and desirous of wealth; I have fabricated acceptable and pious works like (rich) garments, and like a chariot.
