[rv-5-30] • 15 श्लोकाः

क्व स्य वीरः को अपश्यदिन्द्रं सुखरथमीयमानं हरिभ्याम् । यो राया वज्री सुतसोममिच्छन्तदोको गन्ता पुरुहूत ऊती ॥

kva sya vīraḥ ko apaśyadindraṃ sukharathamīyamānaṃ haribhyām | yo rāyā vajrī sutasomamicchantadoko gantā puruhūta ūtī ||

Where is that hero? who has seen Indra seated in his easy chariot travelling with his horses, the thunder, the invoked of many, who, desirous of the libation is proceeding with riches to the habitation (of his worshipper) for his preservation?

अवाचचक्षं पदमस्य सस्वरुग्रं निधातुरन्वायमिच्छन् । अपृच्छमन्याँ उत ते म आहुरिन्द्रं नरो बुबुधाना अशेम ॥

avācacakṣaṃ padamasya sasvarugraṃ nidhāturanvāyamicchan | apṛcchamanyā~ uta te ma āhurindraṃ naro bubudhānā aśema ||

I have looked down upon the secret and fearful plural ce of his abiding; I have repaired, desiring him, (to the plural ce of) the self-sustainer; I have inquired (of him) from others; they, the leaders (of rites), the search after wisdom, have said to me, let us have recourse to Indra.

प्र नु वयं सुते या ते कृतानीन्द्र ब्रवाम यानि नो जुजोषः । वेददविद्वाञ्छृणवच्च विद्वान्वहतेऽयं मघवा सर्वसेनः ॥

pra nu vayaṃ sute yā te kṛtānīndra bravāma yāni no jujoṣaḥ | vedadavidvāñchṛṇavacca vidvānvahate'yaṃ maghavā sarvasenaḥ ||

When the libation is offered, Indra, we celebrate your exploits; those (exploits) which you have been praised (to achieve) for us; let him who is ignorant acquire knowledge (of them); let him who is acquainted (with them) make them known; this Maghavan (is) the lord of hosts.

स्थिरं मनश्चकृषे जात इन्द्र वेषीदेको युधये भूयसश्चित् । अश्मानं चिच्छवसा दिद्युतो वि विदो गवामूर्वमुस्रियाणाम् ॥

sthiraṃ manaścakṛṣe jāta indra veṣīdeko yudhaye bhūyasaścit | aśmānaṃ cicchavasā didyuto vi vido gavāmūrvamusriyāṇām ||

As soon as genitive rated, Indra, you have made your mind resolved; you have gone alone to contend against numerous (foes); you have rent asunder the rock by your strength; you have rescued the herd of milk-yielding kine.

परो यत्त्वं परम आजनिष्ठाः परावति श्रुत्यं नाम बिभ्रत् । अतश्चिदिन्द्रादभयन्त देवा विश्वा अपो अजयद्दासपत्नीः ॥

paro yattvaṃ parama ājaniṣṭhāḥ parāvati śrutyaṃ nāma bibhrat | ataścidindrādabhayanta devā viśvā apo ajayaddāsapatnīḥ ||

When you have been born most excellent and supreme, bearing a name widely renowned, then the gods have been in dread of Indra, and he has subjugated all the waters, the brides of the slave (Vṛtra).

तुभ्येदेते मरुतः सुशेवा अर्चन्त्यर्कं सुन्वन्त्यन्धः । अहिमोहानमप आशयानं प्र मायाभिर्मायिनं सक्षदिन्द्रः ॥

tubhyedete marutaḥ suśevā arcantyarkaṃ sunvantyandhaḥ | ahimohānamapa āśayānaṃ pra māyābhirmāyinaṃ sakṣadindraḥ ||

These devoted Maruts eulogise you with pious praise, and pour out to you the sacrificial food; Indra has overcome by his device the guileful Ahi, harassing the gods and arresting the waters.

वि षू मृधो जनुषा दानमिन्वन्नहन्गवा मघवन्त्संचकानः । अत्रा दासस्य नमुचेः शिरो यदवर्तयो मनवे गातुमिच्छन् ॥

vi ṣū mṛdho januṣā dānaminvannahangavā maghavantsaṃcakānaḥ | atrā dāsasya namuceḥ śiro yadavartayo manave gātumicchan ||

Maghavan, who are glorified by us, assailing with the thunderbolt the antagonist (of the gods), you have slain those who were ever hostile (to you) from your birth; desiring to do good to Manu, you have bruised the head of the slave Namuci.

युजं हि मामकृथा आदिदिन्द्र शिरो दासस्य नमुचेर्मथायन् । अश्मानं चित्स्वर्यं वर्तमानं प्र चक्रियेव रोदसी मरुद्भ्यः ॥

yujaṃ hi māmakṛthā ādidindra śiro dāsasya namucermathāyan | aśmānaṃ citsvaryaṃ vartamānaṃ pra cakriyeva rodasī marudbhyaḥ ||

Verily you have made me, Indra, your associate when grinding the head of the slave Namuci like a sounding and rolling cloud; and the heaven and earth (have been caused) by the Maruts (to revolve like a wheel).

स्त्रियो हि दास आयुधानि चक्रे किं मा करन्नबला अस्य सेनाः । अन्तर्ह्यख्यदुभे अस्य धेने अथोप प्रैद्युधये दस्युमिन्द्रः ॥

striyo hi dāsa āyudhāni cakre kiṃ mā karannabalā asya senāḥ | antarhyakhyadubhe asya dhene athopa praidyudhaye dasyumindraḥ ||

The slave (Namuci) made women his weapons what will his feminine le hosts do unto me? The two his best beloved, (Indra) confined in the inner apartments, and then went forth to combat against the Dasyus.

समत्र गावोऽभितोऽनवन्तेहेह वत्सैर्वियुता यदासन् । सं ता इन्द्रो असृजदस्य शाकैर्यदीं सोमासः सुषुता अमन्दन् ॥

samatra gāvo'bhito'navanteheha vatsairviyutā yadāsan | saṃ tā indro asṛjadasya śākairyadīṃ somāsaḥ suṣutā amandan ||

When the cows were separated from their calves, they wandered about hither and thither; but when the well-offered libations had exhilarated hi, then Indra, with his vigorous (maruts), reunited them (with their calves).

यदीं सोमा बभ्रुधूता अमन्दन्नरोरवीद्वृषभः सादनेषु । पुरंदरः पपिवाँ इन्द्रो अस्य पुनर्गवामददादुस्रियाणाम् ॥

yadīṃ somā babhrudhūtā amandannaroravīdvṛṣabhaḥ sādaneṣu | puraṃdaraḥ papivā~ indro asya punargavāmadadādusriyāṇām ||

When the libations effused by Babhru had exhilarated him, the showerer (of benefits) shouted aloud in the combats; Indra, the destroyer fo cities, quaffing (the Soma), restored to him his milk-yielding cattle.

भद्रमिदं रुशमा अग्ने अक्रन्गवां चत्वारि ददतः सहस्रा । ऋणंचयस्य प्रयता मघानि प्रत्यग्रभीष्म नृतमस्य नृणाम् ॥

bhadramidaṃ ruśamā agne akrangavāṃ catvāri dadataḥ sahasrā | ṛṇaṃcayasya prayatā maghāni pratyagrabhīṣma nṛtamasya nṛṇām ||

The Suśamās giving me four thousand cows, Agni, have done well; we have accepted the wealth, the donation of the leader of leaders rṇañcaya.

सुपेशसं माव सृजन्त्यस्तं गवां सहस्रै रुशमासो अग्ने । तीव्रा इन्द्रमममन्दुः सुतासोऽक्तोर्व्युष्टौ परितक्म्यायाः ॥

supeśasaṃ māva sṛjantyastaṃ gavāṃ sahasrai ruśamāso agne | tīvrā indramamamanduḥ sutāso'ktorvyuṣṭau paritakmyāyāḥ ||

The Ruśamās, Agni, have presented to me a beautiful abode, with thousands of cattle; the sharp libations have exhilarated Indra upon the breaking up of the (gloom-) investing night.

औच्छत्सा रात्री परितक्म्या याँ ऋणंचये राजनि रुशमानाम् । अत्यो न वाजी रघुरज्यमानो बभ्रुश्चत्वार्यसनत्सहस्रा ॥

aucchatsā rātrī paritakmyā yā~ ṛṇaṃcaye rājani ruśamānām | atyo na vājī raghurajyamāno babhruścatvāryasanatsahasrā ||

The (gloom-) investing night has dispersed with the dawn (upon the appearance of) Ṛṇañcaya, the rājā of the ruśamās; Babhru being summoned, going like a fleet courser, has received the four thousand (cattle).

चतुःसहस्रं गव्यस्य पश्वः प्रत्यग्रभीष्म रुशमेष्वग्ने । घर्मश्चित्तप्तः प्रवृजे य आसीदयस्मयस्तम्वादाम विप्राः ॥

catuḥsahasraṃ gavyasya paśvaḥ pratyagrabhīṣma ruśameṣvagne | gharmaścittaptaḥ pravṛje ya āsīdayasmayastamvādāma viprāḥ ||

We have accepted, Agni, the four thousand cattle from the Ruśamās; and the glowing, the golden ewer prepared for the solemnity, we who are wise have accepted it.
