[rv-9-85] • 12 श्लोकाः

इन्द्राय सोम सुषुतः परि स्रवापामीवा भवतु रक्षसा सह । मा ते रसस्य मत्सत द्वयाविनो द्रविणस्वन्त इह सन्त्विन्दवः ॥

indrāya soma suṣutaḥ pari sravāpāmīvā bhavatu rakṣasā saha | mā te rasasya matsata dvayāvino draviṇasvanta iha santvindavaḥ ||

Flow forth, Soma, well-effused for Indra; may disease and the rākṣasas be (kept) far off; let not the double-dealers be exhilarated by your juices; may the Soma-juices be full of wealth at this (sacrifice).

अस्मान्त्समर्ये पवमान चोदय दक्षो देवानामसि हि प्रियो मदः । जहि शत्रूँरभ्या भन्दनायतः पिबेन्द्र सोममव नो मृधो जहि ॥

asmāntsamarye pavamāna codaya dakṣo devānāmasi hi priyo madaḥ | jahi śatrū~rabhyā bhandanāyataḥ pibendra somamava no mṛdho jahi ||

Purified (Soma), animate us in battle; for you are powerful, dear to the gods, the exhilarator. Slay our foes, approach (us) who desire (to propitiate you by) praises; Indra, drink the Soma, destroy our adversaries.

अदब्ध इन्दो पवसे मदिन्तम आत्मेन्द्रस्य भवसि धासिरुत्तमः । अभि स्वरन्ति बहवो मनीषिणो राजानमस्य भुवनस्य निंसते ॥

adabdha indo pavase madintama ātmendrasya bhavasi dhāsiruttamaḥ | abhi svaranti bahavo manīṣiṇo rājānamasya bhuvanasya niṃsate ||

You flow, Indu, the inviolable, the most exhilarating; you are yourself the best support for Indra; may sages approach and glorify you the ruler of this world.

सहस्रणीथः शतधारो अद्भुत इन्द्रायेन्दुः पवते काम्यं मधु । जयन्क्षेत्रमभ्यर्षा जयन्नप उरुं नो गातुं कृणु सोम मीढ्वः ॥

sahasraṇīthaḥ śatadhāro adbhuta indrāyenduḥ pavate kāmyaṃ madhu | jayankṣetramabhyarṣā jayannapa uruṃ no gātuṃ kṛṇu soma mīḍhvaḥ ||

The guide of thousands, flowing in a hundred streams, marvellous, Indu flows forth for Indra, (his) beloved beverage; approach (the filter) winning (us) land, winning water, O Soma, sprinkler, make our path broad.

कनिक्रदत्कलशे गोभिरज्यसे व्यव्ययं समया वारमर्षसि । मर्मृज्यमानो अत्यो न सानसिरिन्द्रस्य सोम जठरे समक्षरः ॥

kanikradatkalaśe gobhirajyase vyavyayaṃ samayā vāramarṣasi | marmṛjyamāno atyo na sānasirindrasya soma jaṭhare samakṣaraḥ ||

Crying aloud you are blended in the pitcher with curds and milk, you pass through the woollen fleece in the midst; being cleansed like a horse, distributing (gifts), you flow, Soma, into Indra's belly.

स्वादुः पवस्व दिव्याय जन्मने स्वादुरिन्द्राय सुहवीतुनाम्ने । स्वादुर्मित्राय वरुणाय वायवे बृहस्पतये मधुमाँ अदाभ्यः ॥

svāduḥ pavasva divyāya janmane svādurindrāya suhavītunāmne | svādurmitrāya varuṇāya vāyave bṛhaspataye madhumā~ adābhyaḥ ||

Flow sweet for the celestial people, flow sweet for Indra, whose name is worthily invoked; sweet for Mitra, Varuṇa, Vāyu, Bṛhaspati, you who are the sweet-flavoured, inviolable.

अत्यं मृजन्ति कलशे दश क्षिपः प्र विप्राणां मतयो वाच ईरते । पवमाना अभ्यर्षन्ति सुष्टुतिमेन्द्रं विशन्ति मदिरास इन्दवः ॥

atyaṃ mṛjanti kalaśe daśa kṣipaḥ pra viprāṇāṃ matayo vāca īrate | pavamānā abhyarṣanti suṣṭutimendraṃ viśanti madirāsa indavaḥ ||

The ten fingers clean the horse in the pitcher; among the vipras the worshippers send forth praises; the filtered (juices) hasten to the fair praise, the exhilarating Soma juices enter Indra.

पवमानो अभ्यर्षा सुवीर्यमुर्वीं गव्यूतिं महि शर्म सप्रथः । माकिर्नो अस्य परिषूतिरीशतेन्दो जयेम त्वया धनंधनम् ॥

pavamāno abhyarṣā suvīryamurvīṃ gavyūtiṃ mahi śarma saprathaḥ | mākirno asya pariṣūtirīśatendo jayema tvayā dhanaṃdhanam ||

(Soma), when filtered, bring us male progeny, extensive pastures, a large and spacious mansion; let no hinderer of this (rite) be lord over us; Indu, through you may we win all wealth.

अधि द्यामस्थाद्वृषभो विचक्षणोऽरूरुचद्वि दिवो रोचना कविः । राजा पवित्रमत्येति रोरुवद्दिवः पीयूषं दुहते नृचक्षसः ॥

adhi dyāmasthādvṛṣabho vicakṣaṇo'rūrucadvi divo rocanā kaviḥ | rājā pavitramatyeti roruvaddivaḥ pīyūṣaṃ duhate nṛcakṣasaḥ ||

The showerer, the beholder, has taken his station upon heaven, the seer has illumined the luminaries of heaven; the king passes through the filter with a shout, (the Soma juices) the beholders of men milk forth the ambrosia of heaven.

दिवो नाके मधुजिह्वा असश्चतो वेना दुहन्त्युक्षणं गिरिष्ठाम् । अप्सु द्रप्सं वावृधानं समुद्र आ सिन्धोरूर्मा मधुमन्तं पवित्र आ ॥

divo nāke madhujihvā asaścato venā duhantyukṣaṇaṃ giriṣṭhām | apsu drapsaṃ vāvṛdhānaṃ samudra ā sindhorūrmā madhumantaṃ pavitra ā ||

In the heaven of the bright (ssacrifice) the sweet-voiced Venas severally milk forth the sprinkler, the mountain-haunting (Soma); (they sprinkle him) nourished in the waters, juicy, in the ocean (-like pitcher), in the wave of the river; (they sprinkle him) sweet-flavoured, in the filter.

नाके सुपर्णमुपपप्तिवांसं गिरो वेनानामकृपन्त पूर्वीः । शिशुं रिहन्ति मतयः पनिप्नतं हिरण्ययं शकुनं क्षामणि स्थाम् ॥

nāke suparṇamupapaptivāṃsaṃ giro venānāmakṛpanta pūrvīḥ | śiśuṃ rihanti matayaḥ panipnataṃ hiraṇyayaṃ śakunaṃ kṣāmaṇi sthām ||

The many voices of the Venas praise (the Soma who dwells) in heaven, well-winged, falling (to earth); praises soothe the crying infant, the golden bird, reposing on the earth.

ऊर्ध्वो गन्धर्वो अधि नाके अस्थाद्विश्वा रूपा प्रतिचक्षाणो अस्य । भानुः शुक्रेण शोचिषा व्यद्यौत्प्रारूरुचद्रोदसी मातरा शुचिः ॥

ūrdhvo gandharvo adhi nāke asthādviśvā rūpā praticakṣāṇo asya | bhānuḥ śukreṇa śociṣā vyadyautprārūrucadrodasī mātarā śuciḥ ||

The elevated gandharva abides above the sun contemplating all its forms; the sun shines with white light, radiant he illumines the creative heaven and earth.
