[rv-9-61] • 30 श्लोकाः

अया वीती परि स्रव यस्त इन्दो मदेष्वा । अवाहन्नवतीर्नव ॥

ayā vītī pari srava yasta indo madeṣvā | avāhannavatīrnava ||

Flow, Indu, for (Indra's) food with that (juice) of yours which in battles overthrow ninety and nine (cities of the foe).

पुरः सद्य इत्थाधिये दिवोदासाय शम्बरम् । अध त्यं तुर्वशं यदुम् ॥

puraḥ sadya itthādhiye divodāsāya śambaram | adha tyaṃ turvaśaṃ yadum ||

(Which overturned) the cities in a moment, and for the sake of the devout Divodāsa (subdued) Śambara, and then that Turvaśa and Yadu.

परि णो अश्वमश्वविद्गोमदिन्दो हिरण्यवत् । क्षरा सहस्रिणीरिषः ॥

pari ṇo aśvamaśvavidgomadindo hiraṇyavat | kṣarā sahasriṇīriṣaḥ ||

Indu, conqueror of horses, shower forth horses with cattle and gold and unbounded food.

पवमानस्य ते वयं पवित्रमभ्युन्दतः । सखित्वमा वृणीमहे ॥

pavamānasya te vayaṃ pavitramabhyundataḥ | sakhitvamā vṛṇīmahe ||

We solicit your friendship as you drop flowing over the filter.

ये ते पवित्रमूर्मयोऽभिक्षरन्ति धारया । तेभिर्नः सोम मृऴय ॥

ye te pavitramūrmayo'bhikṣaranti dhārayā | tebhirnaḥ soma mṛḻaya ||

Delight us, Soma, with those your undulations what flow over the filter in a stream.

स नः पुनान आ भर रयिं वीरवतीमिषम् । ईशानः सोम विश्वतः ॥

sa naḥ punāna ā bhara rayiṃ vīravatīmiṣam | īśānaḥ soma viśvataḥ ||

Soma, who are lord over all, the purifier, bring us riches and food with male offspring.

एतमु त्यं दश क्षिपो मृजन्ति सिन्धुमातरम् । समादित्येभिरख्यत ॥

etamu tyaṃ daśa kṣipo mṛjanti sindhumātaram | samādityebhirakhyata ||

The ten fingers cleanse this Soma, whose parents are the rivers; he is associated with the Ādityas.

समिन्द्रेणोत वायुना सुत एति पवित्र आ । सं सूर्यस्य रश्मिभिः ॥

samindreṇota vāyunā suta eti pavitra ā | saṃ sūryasya raśmibhiḥ ||

When effused he proceeds to the filter, with Indra and Vāyu, and with the sun's rays.

स नो भगाय वायवे पूष्णे पवस्व मधुमान् । चारुर्मित्रे वरुणे च ॥

sa no bhagāya vāyave pūṣṇe pavasva madhumān | cārurmitre varuṇe ca ||

Do you who are sweet-flavoured and beautiful flow (at) our (sacrifice) for Bhaga, Vāyu, Pūṣaṇ, Mitra and Varuṇa

उच्चा ते जातमन्धसो दिवि षद्भूम्या ददे । उग्रं शर्म महि श्रवः ॥

uccā te jātamandhaso divi ṣadbhūmyā dade | ugraṃ śarma mahi śravaḥ ||

The birth of your juice is on high; the earth has received (your) intense happiness and abundant food, though (these) exist (naturally) in heaven.

एना विश्वान्यर्य आ द्युम्नानि मानुषाणाम् । सिषासन्तो वनामहे ॥

enā viśvānyarya ā dyumnāni mānuṣāṇām | siṣāsanto vanāmahe ||

By this (Soma) obtaining and desiring to enjoy all the good things that belong to men we enjoy (them).

स न इन्द्राय यज्यवे वरुणाय मरुद्भ्यः । वरिवोवित्परि स्रव ॥

sa na indrāya yajyave varuṇāya marudbhyaḥ | varivovitpari srava ||

O you who are the possessor of wealth flow for us, for the adorable Indra, for Varuṇa and the Maruts.

उपो षु जातमप्तुरं गोभिर्भङ्गं परिष्कृतम् । इन्दुं देवा अयासिषुः ॥

upo ṣu jātamapturaṃ gobhirbhaṅgaṃ pariṣkṛtam | induṃ devā ayāsiṣuḥ ||

The gods approach Indu, (who is) completely genitive rated, sent forth by the waters, the demolisher (of foes), adorned with milk and curds.

तमिद्वर्धन्तु नो गिरो वत्सं संशिश्वरीरिव । य इन्द्रस्य हृदंसनिः ॥

tamidvardhantu no giro vatsaṃ saṃśiśvarīriva | ya indrasya hṛdaṃsaniḥ ||

May our praises foster him who wins the heart of Indra, as cows who have young ones (foster) their calf.

अर्षा णः सोम शं गवे धुक्षस्व पिप्युषीमिषम् । वर्धा समुद्रमुक्थ्यम् ॥

arṣā ṇaḥ soma śaṃ gave dhukṣasva pipyuṣīmiṣam | vardhā samudramukthyam ||

Soma, pour prosperity upon our cattle, milk forth (for us) nutritious food; augment the laudable water.

पवमानो अजीजनद्दिवश्चित्रं न तन्यतुम् । ज्योतिर्वैश्वानरं बृहत् ॥

pavamāno ajījanaddivaścitraṃ na tanyatum | jyotirvaiśvānaraṃ bṛhat ||

The pure (Soma) has genitive rated in heaven the great Vaiśvānara light like the wonderful thunder.

पवमानस्य ते रसो मदो राजन्नदुच्छुनः । वि वारमव्यमर्षति ॥

pavamānasya te raso mado rājannaducchunaḥ | vi vāramavyamarṣati ||

Bright shining Soma, the juice of you, when your flow enters the woollen filter, exhilarating free from evil.

पवमान रसस्तव दक्षो वि राजति द्युमान् । ज्योतिर्विश्वं स्वर्दृशे ॥

pavamāna rasastava dakṣo vi rājati dyumān | jyotirviśvaṃ svardṛśe ||

Purified Soma, your juice as it increases shines bright; it (makes) a pervading universal light to be seen.

यस्ते मदो वरेण्यस्तेना पवस्वान्धसा । देवावीरघशंसहा ॥

yaste mado vareṇyastenā pavasvāndhasā | devāvīraghaśaṃsahā ||

Flow forth with that juice of yours which is exhilarating, the best gratifying the gods, the slayer of rākṣasas.

जघ्निर्वृत्रममित्रियं सस्निर्वाजं दिवेदिवे । गोषा उ अश्वसा असि ॥

jaghnirvṛtramamitriyaṃ sasnirvājaṃ divedive | goṣā u aśvasā asi ||

You are the slayer of the hostile Vṛtra, the enjoyed of battle day by day, the giver of kine and the giver of horses.

सम्मिश्लो अरुषो भव सूपस्थाभिर्न धेनुभिः । सीदञ्छ्येनो न योनिमा ॥

sammiślo aruṣo bhava sūpasthābhirna dhenubhiḥ | sīdañchyeno na yonimā ||

Be now resplendent, mixed with the supporting (products of the) kine, alighting like a falcon on your plural ce.

स पवस्व य आविथेन्द्रं वृत्राय हन्तवे । वव्रिवांसं महीरपः ॥

sa pavasva ya āvithendraṃ vṛtrāya hantave | vavrivāṃsaṃ mahīrapaḥ ||

Flow you who did help Indra to slay Vṛtra, who obstructed the great waters.

सुवीरासो वयं धना जयेम सोम मीढ्वः । पुनानो वर्ध नो गिरः ॥

suvīrāso vayaṃ dhanā jayema soma mīḍhvaḥ | punāno vardha no giraḥ ||

May we, possessed of excellent male offspring, conquer the wealth (of our enemies), O Soma, the sprinkler; being purified, accept our praises.

त्वोतासस्तवावसा स्याम वन्वन्त आमुरः । सोम व्रतेषु जागृहि ॥

tvotāsastavāvasā syāma vanvanta āmuraḥ | soma vrateṣu jāgṛhi ||

Protected by you, through your protection may we be victorious, slaying (our enemies); be vigilant Soma, at our sacrifices.

अपघ्नन्पवते मृधोऽप सोमो अराव्णः । गच्छन्निन्द्रस्य निष्कृतम् ॥

apaghnanpavate mṛdho'pa somo arāvṇaḥ | gacchannindrasya niṣkṛtam ||

The Soma flows, slaying the malignant, slaying the withholders (of wealth), proceeding to Indra's consecrated (station).

महो नो राय आ भर पवमान जही मृधः । रास्वेन्दो वीरवद्यशः ॥

maho no rāya ā bhara pavamāna jahī mṛdhaḥ | rāsvendo vīravadyaśaḥ ||

Bring us, purifier, much wealth; conquer our foes; grant us, Indu, fame and male offspring.

न त्वा शतं चन ह्रुतो राधो दित्सन्तमा मिनन् । यत्पुनानो मखस्यसे ॥

na tvā śataṃ cana hruto rādho ditsantamā minan | yatpunāno makhasyase ||

A hundred foes harm you not, purposing to give wealth when being purified you are benevolently inclined.

पवस्वेन्दो वृषा सुतः कृधी नो यशसो जने । विश्वा अप द्विषो जहि ॥

pavasvendo vṛṣā sutaḥ kṛdhī no yaśaso jane | viśvā apa dviṣo jahi ||

You, Indu, when effused, the showerer (of benefits) make us celebrated among men; slay all our enemies.

अस्य ते सख्ये वयं तवेन्दो द्युम्न उत्तमे । सासह्याम पृतन्यतः ॥

asya te sakhye vayaṃ tavendo dyumna uttame | sāsahyāma pṛtanyataḥ ||

(Enjoying) the friendship of you here and you excellent food, Indu, may we overcome our assailants.

या ते भीमान्यायुधा तिग्मानि सन्ति धूर्वणे । रक्षा समस्य नो निदः ॥

yā te bhīmānyāyudhā tigmāni santi dhūrvaṇe | rakṣā samasya no nidaḥ ||

With your weapons which are formidable and sharp for slaying (the foe), defend us from the scorn (of our enemies).
