पवस्व मधुमत्तम इन्द्राय सोम क्रतुवित्तमो मदः । महि द्युक्षतमो मदः ॥

pavasva madhumattama indrāya soma kratuvittamo madaḥ | mahi dyukṣatamo madaḥ ||

Soma,who are most sweet-flavoured, most intelligent, the exhilarator, flow for Indra, the great, the most brilliant,the exhilarator.

यस्य ते पीत्वा वृषभो वृषायतेऽस्य पीता स्वर्विदः । स सुप्रकेतो अभ्यक्रमीदिषोऽच्छा वाजं नैतशः ॥

yasya te pītvā vṛṣabho vṛṣāyate'sya pītā svarvidaḥ | sa supraketo abhyakramīdiṣo'cchā vājaṃ naitaśaḥ ||

By drinking whom the showerer Indra is invigorated, by drinking you who are the beholder of everything, the intelligent (Indra) reaches the viands (of the enemy) as a horse (reaches) the battle.

त्वं ह्यङ्ग दैव्या पवमान जनिमानि द्युमत्तमः । अमृतत्वाय घोषयः ॥

tvaṃ hyaṅga daivyā pavamāna janimāni dyumattamaḥ | amṛtatvāya ghoṣayaḥ ||

For you, Pavamāna, who aremost brilliant quickly shout to the races of the gods for (the sake of their) immortality.

येना नवग्वो दध्यङ्ङपोर्णुते येन विप्रास आपिरे । देवानां सुम्ने अमृतस्य चारुणो येन श्रवांस्यानशुः ॥

yenā navagvo dadhyaṅṅaporṇute yena viprāsa āpire | devānāṃ sumne amṛtasya cāruṇo yena śravāṃsyānaśuḥ ||

(You) through whom Dadhyañc tthe offerer of the nine days' rites opened (the cave), through whom the ṛṣis recovered (the stolen cows), through whom under the protection of the gods the worshippers obtained the sustenance of the delicious (ambrosial water).

एष स्य धारया सुतोऽव्यो वारेभिः पवते मदिन्तमः । क्रीऴन्नूर्मिरपामिव ॥

eṣa sya dhārayā suto'vyo vārebhiḥ pavate madintamaḥ | krīḻannūrmirapāmiva ||

This (Soma) when effused flows most exhilarating through the woollen fleece, sporting like a wave of water.

य उस्रिया अप्या अन्तरश्मनो निर्गा अकृन्तदोजसा । अभि व्रजं तत्निषे गव्यमश्व्यं वर्मीव धृष्णवा रुज ॥

ya usriyā apyā antaraśmano nirgā akṛntadojasā | abhi vrajaṃ tatniṣe gavyamaśvyaṃ varmīva dhṛṣṇavā ruja ||

You who by your might extricated from the rock the quick-moving kine abiding in the waters, you have spread out a pasturage for cattle and horses; like a mailed (warrior) slay (the asuras), brave (Soma).

आ सोता परि षिञ्चताश्वं न स्तोममप्तुरं रजस्तुरम् । वनक्रक्षमुदप्रुतम् ॥

ā sotā pari ṣiñcatāśvaṃ na stomamapturaṃ rajasturam | vanakrakṣamudaprutam ||

Pour forth (the Soma), sprinkle it round like a horse, adorable, dispenser of rain, dispenser of light, showerer of fluid, swimming in water.

सहस्रधारं वृषभं पयोवृधं प्रियं देवाय जन्मने । ऋतेन य ऋतजातो विवावृधे राजा देव ऋतं बृहत् ॥

sahasradhāraṃ vṛṣabhaṃ payovṛdhaṃ priyaṃ devāya janmane | ṛtena ya ṛtajāto vivāvṛdhe rājā deva ṛtaṃ bṛhat ||

Thousand-streamed, showererof benefits, augmenter of water, affectionate; (pour it forth) for the race of the gods which water-born is fostered by the water, the king, the god, the true, the great.

अभि द्युम्नं बृहद्यश इषस्पते दिदीहि देव देवयुः । वि कोशं मध्यमं युव ॥

abhi dyumnaṃ bṛhadyaśa iṣaspate didīhi deva devayuḥ | vi kośaṃ madhyamaṃ yuva ||

Divine (Soma) lord of viands, who are devoted to the gods, bestow upon us brilliant and abundant food; separate the mid-aerial receptacle.

आ वच्यस्व सुदक्ष चम्वोः सुतो विशां वह्निर्न विश्पतिः । वृष्टिं दिवः पवस्व रीतिमपां जिन्वा गविष्टये धियः ॥

ā vacyasva sudakṣa camvoḥ suto viśāṃ vahnirna viśpatiḥ | vṛṣṭiṃ divaḥ pavasva rītimapāṃ jinvā gaviṣṭaye dhiyaḥ ||

Come, powerful (Soma) effused into the cups, like a prince the sustainer of the people; pour the course of the waters, the rain fromheaven; accomplish the rites for the worshipper who seeks cattle.

एतमु त्यं मदच्युतं सहस्रधारं वृषभं दिवो दुहुः । विश्वा वसूनि बिभ्रतम् ॥

etamu tyaṃ madacyutaṃ sahasradhāraṃ vṛṣabhaṃ divo duhuḥ | viśvā vasūni bibhratam ||

Him have they milked from heaven, the shedder of exhilarating juice, the thousand-streamed, the showerer (of benefits), bearing all treasures.

वृषा वि जज्ञे जनयन्नमर्त्यः प्रतपञ्ज्योतिषा तमः । स सुष्टुतः कविभिर्निर्णिजं दधे त्रिधात्वस्य दंससा ॥

vṛṣā vi jajñe janayannamartyaḥ pratapañjyotiṣā tamaḥ | sa suṣṭutaḥ kavibhirnirṇijaṃ dadhe tridhātvasya daṃsasā ||

The showerer (of benefits) is manifested begetting (light) immortal, destroying the darkness with (his) radiance; glorified by the wise he has assumed his shining robe; the triple (oblation is supported) by his act.

स सुन्वे यो वसूनां यो रायामानेता य इऴानाम् । सोमो यः सुक्षितीनाम् ॥

sa sunve yo vasūnāṃ yo rāyāmānetā ya iḻānām | somo yaḥ sukṣitīnām ||

The Soma has been effused who is the bringer of treasures, the bringer of riches, the bringer of food, the bringer of fair homes.

यस्य न इन्द्रः पिबाद्यस्य मरुतो यस्य वार्यमणा भगः । आ येन मित्रावरुणा करामह एन्द्रमवसे महे ॥

yasya na indraḥ pibādyasya maruto yasya vāryamaṇā bhagaḥ | ā yena mitrāvaruṇā karāmaha endramavase mahe ||

Our (Soma) which Indra drinks, which the Maruts drink and Bhaga with Aryaman; through which we propitiate Mitra and Varuṇa and Indra, to obtain his powerful protection.

इन्द्राय सोम पातवे नृभिर्यतः स्वायुधो मदिन्तमः । पवस्व मधुमत्तमः ॥

indrāya soma pātave nṛbhiryataḥ svāyudho madintamaḥ | pavasva madhumattamaḥ ||

Soma, collected by the priests, well-armed, most exhilarating, most sweet-flavoured, flow for Indra to drink.

इन्द्रस्य हार्दि सोमधानमा विश समुद्रमिव सिन्धवः । जुष्टो मित्राय वरुणाय वायवे दिवो विष्टम्भ उत्तमः ॥

indrasya hārdi somadhānamā viśa samudramiva sindhavaḥ | juṣṭo mitrāya varuṇāya vāyave divo viṣṭambha uttamaḥ ||

Soma, enter the Somadhāna, Indra's heart, as the rivers (enter) the sea agreeable to Mitra, Varuṇa and Vāyu, the chief stay of heaven.
