[rv-8-94] • 12 श्लोकाः

गौर्धयति मरुतां श्रवस्युर्माता मघोनाम् । युक्ता वह्नी रथानाम् ॥

gaurdhayati marutāṃ śravasyurmātā maghonām | yuktā vahnī rathānām ||

The cow (Pṛs;ni), the food-desiring mother of the wealthy Maruts, drinks (the Soma)-- she is worthy ofall honour, who yokes (the mares) to their chariots.

यस्या देवा उपस्थे व्रता विश्वे धारयन्ते । सूर्यामासा दृशे कम् ॥

yasyā devā upasthe vratā viśve dhārayante | sūryāmāsā dṛśe kam ||

She, in whose presence all the gods observe their functions, and the sun and moon move in peace toenlighten the world.

तत्सु नो विश्वे अर्य आ सदा गृणन्ति कारवः । मरुतः सोमपीतये ॥

tatsu no viśve arya ā sadā gṛṇanti kāravaḥ | marutaḥ somapītaye ||

Therefore all our priests in their worship always sing the Maruts that they may drink the Soma.

अस्ति सोमो अयं सुतः पिबन्त्यस्य मरुतः । उत स्वराजो अश्विना ॥

asti somo ayaṃ sutaḥ pibantyasya marutaḥ | uta svarājo aśvinā ||

This Soma is effused (by us); the self-resplendent Maruts drink of it, and the Aśvins.

पिबन्ति मित्रो अर्यमा तना पूतस्य वरुणः । त्रिषधस्थस्य जावतः ॥

pibanti mitro aryamā tanā pūtasya varuṇaḥ | triṣadhasthasya jāvataḥ ||

Mitra, Aryaman and Varuṇa drink (the Soma), purified by the straining cloth, abiding in three plural ces,and granting posterity.

उतो न्वस्य जोषमाँ इन्द्रः सुतस्य गोमतः । प्रातर्होतेव मत्सति ॥

uto nvasya joṣamā~ indraḥ sutasya gomataḥ | prātarhoteva matsati ||

Indra also is eager in the morning to drink this effused (Soma) mixed with milk, as a priest (to praise thegods).

कदत्विषन्त सूरयस्तिर आप इव स्रिधः । अर्षन्ति पूतदक्षसः ॥

kadatviṣanta sūrayastira āpa iva sridhaḥ | arṣanti pūtadakṣasaḥ ||

When do the sages flash like waters across (to sky)? When do the Maruts, pure in vigour, destroyers ofenemies, come to our offering?

कद्वो अद्य महानां देवानामवो वृणे । त्मना च दस्मवर्चसाम् ॥

kadvo adya mahānāṃ devānāmavo vṛṇe | tmanā ca dasmavarcasām ||

O shall I today possess your protection, mighty deities, beautiful bright in yourselves (thoughunadorned)?

आ ये विश्वा पार्थिवानि पप्रथन्रोचना दिवः । मरुतः सोमपीतये ॥

ā ye viśvā pārthivāni paprathanrocanā divaḥ | marutaḥ somapītaye ||

(We invoke) those maruts to drink our Soma, who have spread our all the things of earth and theluminaries of heaven.

त्यान्नु पूतदक्षसो दिवो वो मरुतो हुवे । अस्य सोमस्य पीतये ॥

tyānnu pūtadakṣaso divo vo maruto huve | asya somasya pītaye ||

O Maruts, I invoke you, resplendent, of pure vigour, to drink this Soma.

त्यान्नु ये वि रोदसी तस्तभुर्मरुतो हुवे । अस्य सोमस्य पीतये ॥

tyānnu ye vi rodasī tastabhurmaruto huve | asya somasya pītaye ||

I invoke those Maruts to drink this Soma, who have established heaven and earth.

त्यं नु मारुतं गणं गिरिष्ठां वृषणं हुवे । अस्य सोमस्य पीतये ॥

tyaṃ nu mārutaṃ gaṇaṃ giriṣṭhāṃ vṛṣaṇaṃ huve | asya somasya pītaye ||

I invoke that band of the Maruts, abiding in the clouds, the showerers, to drink this Soma.
