[rv-8-78] • 10 श्लोकाः

पुरोऴाशं नो अन्धस इन्द्र सहस्रमा भर । शता च शूर गोनाम् ॥

puroḻāśaṃ no andhasa indra sahasramā bhara | śatā ca śūra gonām ||

(Accepting) our offering of sacrificial viands, O hero Indra, bring us thousands and hundreds of cows.

आ नो भर व्यञ्जनं गामश्वमभ्यञ्जनम् । सचा मना हिरण्यया ॥

ā no bhara vyañjanaṃ gāmaśvamabhyañjanam | sacā manā hiraṇyayā ||

Bring us condiments, cows, horses, and oil, (bring us) with them precious golden (vessels).

उत नः कर्णशोभना पुरूणि धृष्णवा भर । त्वं हि शृण्विषे वसो ॥

uta naḥ karṇaśobhanā purūṇi dhṛṣṇavā bhara | tvaṃ hi śṛṇviṣe vaso ||

O resolute one, bring us many ear-ornaments; giver of dwellings, you are renowned.

नकीं वृधीक इन्द्र ते न सुषा न सुदा उत । नान्यस्त्वच्छूर वाघतः ॥

nakīṃ vṛdhīka indra te na suṣā na sudā uta | nānyastvacchūra vāghataḥ ||

There is no prosperer other than you, no divider of the spoil, no giver of boons; O hero, there is no(leader) of the sacrificer other than you.

नकीमिन्द्रो निकर्तवे न शक्रः परिशक्तवे । विश्वं शृणोति पश्यति ॥

nakīmindro nikartave na śakraḥ pariśaktave | viśvaṃ śṛṇoti paśyati ||

Indra cannot be brought low, he cannot be over-powered-- he hears, he sees all.

स मन्युं मर्त्यानामदब्धो नि चिकीषते । पुरा निदश्चिकीषते ॥

sa manyuṃ martyānāmadabdho ni cikīṣate | purā nidaścikīṣate ||

Unharmed he brings low the wrath of mortals; ere any one can reproach him, he brings him low.

क्रत्व इत्पूर्णमुदरं तुरस्यास्ति विधतः । वृत्रघ्नः सोमपाव्नः ॥

kratva itpūrṇamudaraṃ turasyāsti vidhataḥ | vṛtraghnaḥ somapāvnaḥ ||

The belly of the Soma-drinker, the eager slayer of Vṛtra, is filled by the sacrificer's offering.

त्वे वसूनि संगता विश्वा च सोम सौभगा । सुदात्वपरिह्वृता ॥

tve vasūni saṃgatā viśvā ca soma saubhagā | sudātvaparihvṛtā ||

In you, O drinker of the Soma, are treasures stored, and all precious things and unblemished giftṣ

त्वामिद्यवयुर्मम कामो गव्युर्हिरण्ययुः । त्वामश्वयुरेषते ॥

tvāmidyavayurmama kāmo gavyurhiraṇyayuḥ | tvāmaśvayureṣate ||

To you my desire astens, seeking barley, cows and gold-- to you it hastens seeking horses.

तवेदिन्द्राहमाशसा हस्ते दात्रं चना ददे । दिनस्य वा मघवन्त्सम्भृतस्य वा पूर्धि यवस्य काशिना ॥

tavedindrāhamāśasā haste dātraṃ canā dade | dinasya vā maghavantsambhṛtasya vā pūrdhi yavasya kāśinā ||

I take my sickle also in hand, Indra, with a prayer to you; fill it, Maghavan, with a handful of barleyalready cut or piled.
