[rv-8-68] • 19 श्लोकाः

आ त्वा रथं यथोतये सुम्नाय वर्तयामसि । तुविकूर्मिमृतीषहमिन्द्र शविष्ठ सत्पते ॥

ā tvā rathaṃ yathotaye sumnāya vartayāmasi | tuvikūrmimṛtīṣahamindra śaviṣṭha satpate ||

Most powerful Indra, protector of the good, we brin you here, rich in achievement and subduer ofenemies, as a car for our protection and weal.

तुविशुष्म तुविक्रतो शचीवो विश्वया मते । आ पप्राथ महित्वना ॥

tuviśuṣma tuvikrato śacīvo viśvayā mate | ā paprātha mahitvanā ||

Great in power, rich in deeds, might one, adorable, you have filled (all things) with your universalmajesy.

यस्य ते महिना महः परि ज्मायन्तमीयतुः । हस्ता वज्रं हिरण्ययम् ॥

yasya te mahinā mahaḥ pari jmāyantamīyatuḥ | hastā vajraṃ hiraṇyayam ||

You mighty one, whose hands in your might grasp the all-pervading golden thunderbolt.

विश्वानरस्य वस्पतिमनानतस्य शवसः । एवैश्च चर्षणीनामूती हुवे रथानाम् ॥

viśvānarasya vaspatimanānatasya śavasaḥ | evaiśca carṣaṇīnāmūtī huve rathānām ||

I invoke (Indra) the lord of that might which subdues all enemies and bow to none-- (I invoke him)followed by your onsets as his soldiers and (surrounded) by the protection of your chariots (O Maruts).

अभिष्टये सदावृधं स्वर्मीऴ्हेषु यं नरः । नाना हवन्त ऊतये ॥

abhiṣṭaye sadāvṛdhaṃ svarmīḻheṣu yaṃ naraḥ | nānā havanta ūtaye ||

(I invoke him) to come to our help, whose might ever waxes more and more-- to whom men appeal foraid in various ways in battles.

परोमात्रमृचीषममिन्द्रमुग्रं सुराधसम् । ईशानं चिद्वसूनाम् ॥

paromātramṛcīṣamamindramugraṃ surādhasam | īśānaṃ cidvasūnām ||

(I invoke) Indra, the unlimited, worthy of praise, the mighty, possessing excellent wealth, the lord oftreasures (for his votaries).

तंतमिद्राधसे मह इन्द्रं चोदामि पीतये । यः पूर्व्यामनुष्टुतिमीशे कृष्टीनां नृतुः ॥

taṃtamidrādhase maha indraṃ codāmi pītaye | yaḥ pūrvyāmanuṣṭutimīśe kṛṣṭīnāṃ nṛtuḥ ||

To him, to him, Indra, do I direct my praise, that he may quaff the Soma to my great gain-- to him, thebringer of success, who rules over the praises of the offerers at the opening of the sacrifice.

न यस्य ते शवसान सख्यमानंश मर्त्यः । नकिः शवांसि ते नशत् ॥

na yasya te śavasāna sakhyamānaṃśa martyaḥ | nakiḥ śavāṃsi te naśat ||

You mighty one, whose friendship no mortal reaches, whose might no one attains.

त्वोतासस्त्वा युजाप्सु सूर्ये महद्धनम् । जयेम पृत्सु वज्रिवः ॥

tvotāsastvā yujāpsu sūrye mahaddhanam | jayema pṛtsu vajrivaḥ ||

Protected by you, O thunderer, with you as our ally, may we win great wealth in battles, that we maybathe in the water and behold he sun.

तं त्वा यज्ञेभिरीमहे तं गीर्भिर्गिर्वणस्तम । इन्द्र यथा चिदाविथ वाजेषु पुरुमाय्यम् ॥

taṃ tvā yajñebhirīmahe taṃ gīrbhirgirvaṇastama | indra yathā cidāvitha vājeṣu purumāyyam ||

We address you with sacrificial gifts, (we address you) with songs, O Indra most worthy of song, as youhave protected me, the offerer of many praises, in battles.

यस्य ते स्वादु सख्यं स्वाद्वी प्रणीतिरद्रिवः । यज्ञो वितन्तसाय्यः ॥

yasya te svādu sakhyaṃ svādvī praṇītiradrivaḥ | yajño vitantasāyyaḥ ||

You, the thunderer, whose friendship is sweet, sweet too is your liberality, and your sacrificepre-eminently to be performed.

उरु णस्तन्वे तन उरु क्षयाय नस्कृधि । उरु णो यन्धि जीवसे ॥

uru ṇastanve tana uru kṣayāya naskṛdhi | uru ṇo yandhi jīvase ||

Give ample (wealth) to our own selves, give ample (wealth) to our children, give ample (wealth) to ourdwelling, gran us (our desire) that we may live.

उरुं नृभ्य उरुं गव उरुं रथाय पन्थाम् । देववीतिं मनामहे ॥

uruṃ nṛbhya uruṃ gava uruṃ rathāya panthām | devavītiṃ manāmahe ||

We solicit a spacious (road) for our servants, a spacious (road) for our cattle, a spacious road for ourchariot, and (an abundant) sacrifice.

उप मा षड्द्वाद्वा नरः सोमस्य हर्ष्या । तिष्ठन्ति स्वादुरातयः ॥

upa mā ṣaḍdvādvā naraḥ somasya harṣyā | tiṣṭhanti svādurātayaḥ ||

Six princes come to me in pairs, bearing plural asant gifts, in the exhilaration of the Soma.

ऋज्राविन्द्रोत आ ददे हरी ऋक्षस्य सूनवि । आश्वमेधस्य रोहिता ॥

ṛjrāvindrota ā dade harī ṛkṣasya sūnavi | āśvamedhasya rohitā ||

I receive two straight-going steeds from Indrota, two from the son of Ṛkṣa, two from the son ofAśvamedha.

सुरथाँ आतिथिग्वे स्वभीशूँरार्क्षे । आश्वमेधे सुपेशसः ॥

surathā~ ātithigve svabhīśū~rārkṣe | āśvamedhe supeśasaḥ ||

(I receive) two steeds with excellent chariots from the son of Atithigva, two with excellent reins from theson of Ṛkṣa, two with excellent ornaments from the son of Aśvamedha.

षऴश्वाँ आतिथिग्व इन्द्रोते वधूमतः । सचा पूतक्रतौ सनम् ॥

ṣaḻaśvā~ ātithigva indrote vadhūmataḥ | sacā pūtakratau sanam ||

I have received together (with my other gifts) six horses with their mares from te pious Indrota, the sonof Atithigva.

ऐषु चेतद्वृषण्वत्यन्तॠज्रेष्वरुषी । स्वभीशुः कशावती ॥

aiṣu cetadvṛṣaṇvatyantaṝjreṣvaruṣī | svabhīśuḥ kaśāvatī ||

Among these straight-going steeds is numbered a mature mare with excellent reins and whip.

न युष्मे वाजबन्धवो निनित्सुश्चन मर्त्यः । अवद्यमधि दीधरत् ॥

na yuṣme vājabandhavo ninitsuścana martyaḥ | avadyamadhi dīdharat ||

O princes, givers of food, even the lover of calumny has thrown no censure on you.
