[rv-8-67] • 21 श्लोकाः

त्यान्नु क्षत्रियाँ अव आदित्यान्याचिषामहे । सुमृऴीकाँ अभिष्टये ॥

tyānnu kṣatriyā~ ava ādityānyāciṣāmahe | sumṛḻīkā~ abhiṣṭaye ||

We solicit for protection those kṣatriyas, the Ādityas who bless (their votaries) abundantly to theattainment of their desires.

मित्रो नो अत्यंहतिं वरुणः पर्षदर्यमा । आदित्यासो यथा विदुः ॥

mitro no atyaṃhatiṃ varuṇaḥ parṣadaryamā | ādityāso yathā viduḥ ||

May the Ādityas, Mitra, Varuṇa, and Aryaman, bear us across our distress, as they know it well.

तेषां हि चित्रमुक्थ्यं वरूथमस्ति दाशुषे । आदित्यानामरंकृते ॥

teṣāṃ hi citramukthyaṃ varūthamasti dāśuṣe | ādityānāmaraṃkṛte ||

To those Ādityas belongs wonderful wealth, worthy of all praise, (laid up) for the offerer of oblationsand the sacrificer.

महि वो महतामवो वरुण मित्रार्यमन् । अवांस्या वृणीमहे ॥

mahi vo mahatāmavo varuṇa mitrāryaman | avāṃsyā vṛṇīmahe ||

You are great, Varuṇa, Mitra and Aryaman, and great is your protection; your protections we implore.

जीवान्नो अभि धेतनादित्यासः पुरा हथात् । कद्ध स्थ हवनश्रुतः ॥

jīvānno abhi dhetanādityāsaḥ purā hathāt | kaddha stha havanaśrutaḥ ||

Ādityas, hasten to us before our death, while we are yet alive; where are you, hearers of prayer?

यद्वः श्रान्ताय सुन्वते वरूथमस्ति यच्छर्दिः । तेना नो अधि वोचत ॥

yadvaḥ śrāntāya sunvate varūthamasti yacchardiḥ | tenā no adhi vocata ||

Whatever wealh, whatever dwelling is yours (to give) to the wearied offerer of libations-- with thesespeak to us a kindly answer.

अस्ति देवा अंहोरुर्वस्ति रत्नमनागसः । आदित्या अद्भुतैनसः ॥

asti devā aṃhorurvasti ratnamanāgasaḥ | ādityā adbhutainasaḥ ||

Great, O deities, is (the guild) of the sinner, but to the sinless is happiness; Ādityas, you are void ofsin.

मा नः सेतुः सिषेदयं महे वृणक्तु नस्परि । इन्द्र इद्धि श्रुतो वशी ॥

mā naḥ setuḥ siṣedayaṃ mahe vṛṇaktu naspari | indra iddhi śruto vaśī ||

Let not the snare bind us; may Indra, the renowned, the subduer of all, deliver us for a glorious act.

मा नो मृचा रिपूणां वृजिनानामविष्यवः । देवा अभि प्र मृक्षत ॥

mā no mṛcā ripūṇāṃ vṛjinānāmaviṣyavaḥ | devā abhi pra mṛkṣata ||

O deities, ready to protect, move us not with the destructive net of our wicked enemieṣ

उत त्वामदिते मह्यहं देव्युप ब्रुवे । सुमृऴीकामभिष्टये ॥

uta tvāmadite mahyahaṃ devyupa bruve | sumṛḻīkāmabhiṣṭaye ||

I address you, who give abundant delight, the great goddess, Aditi, for the attainment of my desire.

पर्षि दीने गभीर आँ उग्रपुत्रे जिघांसतः । माकिस्तोकस्य नो रिषत् ॥

parṣi dīne gabhīra ā~ ugraputre jighāṃsataḥ | mākistokasya no riṣat ||

You protect on every side; let not (the net) of the destroyer hurt our children, in this shallow water full ofmighhty offspring.

अनेहो न उरुव्रज उरूचि वि प्रसर्तवे । कृधि तोकाय जीवसे ॥

aneho na uruvraja urūci vi prasartave | kṛdhi tokāya jīvase ||

Wide-traversing, far-reaching goddess, put forth your power to come to us, innocent ones, that ourchildren may live.

ये मूर्धानः क्षितीनामदब्धासः स्वयशसः । व्रता रक्षन्ते अद्रुहः ॥

ye mūrdhānaḥ kṣitīnāmadabdhāsaḥ svayaśasaḥ | vratā rakṣante adruhaḥ ||

You who are the heads of men, unharming, and of self-sustained glory, who, benevolent ones, protectour rites.

ते न आस्नो वृकाणामादित्यासो मुमोचत । स्तेनं बद्धमिवादिते ॥

te na āsno vṛkāṇāmādityāso mumocata | stenaṃ baddhamivādite ||

Ādityas, deliver us from the jaws of the destroyers like a bound thief; O Aditi, (deliver us).

अपो षु ण इयं शरुरादित्या अप दुर्मतिः । अस्मदेत्वजघ्नुषी ॥

apo ṣu ṇa iyaṃ śarurādityā apa durmatiḥ | asmadetvajaghnuṣī ||

Ādityas, let this net, let the malevolent design turn away from us innocuous.

शश्वद्धि वः सुदानव आदित्या ऊतिभिर्वयम् । पुरा नूनं बुभुज्महे ॥

śaśvaddhi vaḥ sudānava ādityā ūtibhirvayam | purā nūnaṃ bubhujmahe ||

Bounteous Ādityas, by your protections we have continually possessed enjoyments from of old.

शश्वन्तं हि प्रचेतसः प्रतियन्तं चिदेनसः । देवाः कृणुथ जीवसे ॥

śaśvantaṃ hi pracetasaḥ pratiyantaṃ cidenasaḥ | devāḥ kṛṇutha jīvase ||

Wise deities, keep away from us, that we may live, the many doers of sin who come against us.

तत्सु नो नव्यं सन्यस आदित्या यन्मुमोचति । बन्धाद्बद्धमिवादिते ॥

tatsu no navyaṃ sanyasa ādityā yanmumocati | bandhādbaddhamivādite ||

Ādityas and Aditi, let that which releases us as a prisoner from his bond, be ever the object of ourpraise and worship.

नास्माकमस्ति तत्तर आदित्यासो अतिष्कदे । यूयमस्मभ्यं मृऴत ॥

nāsmākamasti tattara ādityāso atiṣkade | yūyamasmabhyaṃ mṛḻata ||

Not to us is there strength enough to burst from this (net); O Ādityas, do you grant us your favour.

मा नो हेतिर्विवस्वत आदित्याः कृत्रिमा शरुः । पुरा नु जरसो वधीत् ॥

mā no hetirvivasvata ādityāḥ kṛtrimā śaruḥ | purā nu jaraso vadhīt ||

Let not this weapon of Vivasvat, this net made with hands, Ādityas, destroy us before old age.

वि षु द्वेषो व्यंहतिमादित्यासो वि संहितम् । विष्वग्वि वृहता रपः ॥

vi ṣu dveṣo vyaṃhatimādityāso vi saṃhitam | viṣvagvi vṛhatā rapaḥ ||

Ādityas, utterly destroy our enemies, destroy wickedness, destroy the closely drawn net, destroy evileverywhere.
