[rv-8-63] • 12 श्लोकाः

स पूर्व्यो महानां वेनः क्रतुभिरानजे । यस्य द्वारा मनुष्पिता देवेषु धिय आनजे ॥

sa pūrvyo mahānāṃ venaḥ kratubhirānaje | yasya dvārā manuṣpitā deveṣu dhiya ānaje ||

He, (Indra), the chief of those to be honoured, desirous of our offerings, approaches; he, the doors ofwhose favour, the sacred rites, Manu, the (universal) father, attained among the gods.

दिवो मानं नोत्सदन्त्सोमपृष्ठासो अद्रयः । उक्था ब्रह्म च शंस्या ॥

divo mānaṃ notsadantsomapṛṣṭhāso adrayaḥ | ukthā brahma ca śaṃsyā ||

May the stones which press out the Soma never forsake Indra, maker of heaven, nor the praises andhymns which are to be uttered.

स विद्वाँ अङ्गिरोभ्य इन्द्रो गा अवृणोदप । स्तुषे तदस्य पौंस्यम् ॥

sa vidvā~ aṅgirobhya indro gā avṛṇodapa | stuṣe tadasya pauṃsyam ||

He, the wise Indra, discovered the cows to the Aṅgirasas; I glorify that his might.

स प्रत्नथा कविवृध इन्द्रो वाकस्य वक्षणिः । शिवो अर्कस्य होमन्यस्मत्रा गन्त्ववसे ॥

sa pratnathā kavivṛdha indro vākasya vakṣaṇiḥ | śivo arkasya homanyasmatrā gantvavase ||

As in former times, so now too is Indra the blesser of the worshipper and the bearer of him who praiseshim; may he come among us auspicious for our protection at the oblation of the Soma.

आदू नु ते अनु क्रतुं स्वाहा वरस्य यज्यवः । श्वात्रमर्का अनूषतेन्द्र गोत्रस्य दावने ॥

ādū nu te anu kratuṃ svāhā varasya yajyavaḥ | śvātramarkā anūṣatendra gotrasya dāvane ||

Forthwith, Indra, as they offer to Agni the lord of Svāhā, the singers successively praise your deeds,for your attainment of wealth.

इन्द्रे विश्वानि वीर्या कृतानि कर्त्वानि च । यमर्का अध्वरं विदुः ॥

indre viśvāni vīryā kṛtāni kartvāni ca | yamarkā adhvaraṃ viduḥ ||

In that Indra, whom the singers know as the unharming, all past and future powers abide.

यत्पाञ्चजन्यया विशेन्द्रे घोषा असृक्षत । अस्तृणाद्बर्हणा विपोऽर्यो मानस्य स क्षयः ॥

yatpāñcajanyayā viśendre ghoṣā asṛkṣata | astṛṇādbarhaṇā vipo'ryo mānasya sa kṣayaḥ ||

When praises are addressed to Indra by the men of the five classes, he destroys their enemies by hismight; he, the lord, is the abode of the worshipper's homage.

इयमु ते अनुष्टुतिश्चकृषे तानि पौंस्या । प्रावश्चक्रस्य वर्तनिम् ॥

iyamu te anuṣṭutiścakṛṣe tāni pauṃsyā | prāvaścakrasya vartanim ||

This praise is yours, for you have achieved those exploits; you have guarded the road of ourchariot-wheel (to the sacrificial rite).

अस्य वृष्णो व्योदन उरु क्रमिष्ट जीवसे । यवं न पश्व आ ददे ॥

asya vṛṣṇo vyodana uru kramiṣṭa jīvase | yavaṃ na paśva ā dade ||

When the various sustenance, given by Indra, the showerer, is obtained, all men step over with widestrides for (dear) life; they receive it as cattle and barley.

तद्दधाना अवस्यवो युष्माभिर्दक्षपितरः । स्याम मरुत्वतो वृधे ॥

taddadhānā avasyavo yuṣmābhirdakṣapitaraḥ | syāma marutvato vṛdhe ||

Presenting our praise, and desiring protection, may we with you (O priests) be lords of food, to offersacrifice to (Indra) attended by the Maruts.

बऴृत्वियाय धाम्न ऋक्वभिः शूर नोनुमः । जेषामेन्द्र त्वया युजा ॥

baḻṛtviyāya dhāmna ṛkvabhiḥ śūra nonumaḥ | jeṣāmendra tvayā yujā ||

Hero, by our hymns we offer praise to you, who appear at the time of sacrifice, and wear auspicioussplendour; with you as our ally may we conquer (our enemies).

अस्मे रुद्रा मेहना पर्वतासो वृत्रहत्ये भरहूतौ सजोषाः । यः शंसते स्तुवते धायि पज्र इन्द्रज्येष्ठा अस्माँ अवन्तु देवाः ॥

asme rudrā mehanā parvatāso vṛtrahatye bharahūtau sajoṣāḥ | yaḥ śaṃsate stuvate dhāyi pajra indrajyeṣṭhā asmā~ avantu devāḥ ||

The Rudras, the showering clouds, and (Indra) who rejoices with us in the battle-challenge which bringsVṛtra's destruction, and who comes in his might to the reciter and singer of his praises-- may these gods, withIndra at their head, protect us.
