[rv-8-62] • 12 श्लोकाः

प्रो अस्मा उपस्तुतिं भरता यज्जुजोषति । उक्थैरिन्द्रस्य माहिनं वयो वर्धन्ति सोमिनो भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

pro asmā upastutiṃ bharatā yajjujoṣati | ukthairindrasya māhinaṃ vayo vardhanti somino bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

Present the offering of praise to Indra, since he enjoys it; (the priests) augment the ample food of theSoma-loving Indra with their recited hymns, Indra's gifts are worthy of praise.

अयुजो असमो नृभिरेकः कृष्टीरयास्यः । पूर्वीरति प्र वावृधे विश्वा जातान्योजसा भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

ayujo asamo nṛbhirekaḥ kṛṣṭīrayāsyaḥ | pūrvīrati pra vāvṛdhe viśvā jātānyojasā bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

Without a fellow and unlike the other gods, he alone, unconquerable, surpasses the men of formertimes, he surpasses in might all beings; Indra's gifts are worthy of praise.

अहितेन चिदर्वता जीरदानुः सिषासति । प्रवाच्यमिन्द्र तत्तव वीर्याणि करिष्यतो भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

ahitena cidarvatā jīradānuḥ siṣāsati | pravācyamindra tattava vīryāṇi kariṣyato bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

He, the swift giver, wishes to bestow blessings (upon us) with his unurged courser, your greatness,Indra, as you are about to display your powers, should be proclaimed, Indra's gifts are worthy of praise.

आ याहि कृणवाम त इन्द्र ब्रह्माणि वर्धना । येभिः शविष्ठ चाकनो भद्रमिह श्रवस्यते भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

ā yāhi kṛṇavāma ta indra brahmāṇi vardhanā | yebhiḥ śaviṣṭha cākano bhadramiha śravasyate bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

Indra, come here; let us perform for you our sacred rites augmenting your vigour; by which (rites), mostmightyone, you desire to bless him who wishes for food; Indra's gifts are worthy of praise.

धृषतश्चिद्धृषन्मनः कृणोषीन्द्र यत्त्वम् । तीव्रैः सोमैः सपर्यतो नमोभिः प्रतिभूषतो भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

dhṛṣataściddhṛṣanmanaḥ kṛṇoṣīndra yattvam | tīvraiḥ somaiḥ saparyato namobhiḥ pratibhūṣato bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

You have made your mind, Indra, more resolute than the resolute, since you (wish to give the desires)of him who worships you with the intoxicating Soma and adorns you with adorations; Indra's gifts are worthy ofpraise.

अव चष्ट ऋचीषमोऽवताँ इव मानुषः । जुष्ट्वी दक्षस्य सोमिनः सखायं कृणुते युजं भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

ava caṣṭa ṛcīṣamo'vatā~ iva mānuṣaḥ | juṣṭvī dakṣasya sominaḥ sakhāyaṃ kṛṇute yujaṃ bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

Indra, who is well-deserving of the hymn, looks down (with favour) upon us as a (thirsty) man (looksdown) on wells; and being well-plural ased he makes the energetic Soma-offerer his friend; Indra's gifts are worthyof praise.

विश्वे त इन्द्र वीर्यं देवा अनु क्रतुं ददुः । भुवो विश्वस्य गोपतिः पुरुष्टुत भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

viśve ta indra vīryaṃ devā anu kratuṃ daduḥ | bhuvo viśvasya gopatiḥ puruṣṭuta bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

Indra, by the example of your power and knowledge the gods attain the same; O hymned by many, youare herdsman of the universe; Indra's gifts are worthy of praise.

गृणे तदिन्द्र ते शव उपमं देवतातये । यद्धंसि वृत्रमोजसा शचीपते भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

gṛṇe tadindra te śava upamaṃ devatātaye | yaddhaṃsi vṛtramojasā śacīpate bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

Indra, I laud that might of yours which isnear at hand to the worshipper-- (I laud you) that you slay Vṛtra,O lord of rites, by your strength; Indra's gifts are worthy of praise.

समनेव वपुष्यतः कृणवन्मानुषा युगा । विदे तदिन्द्रश्चेतनमध श्रुतो भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

samaneva vapuṣyataḥ kṛṇavanmānuṣā yugā | vide tadindraścetanamadha śruto bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

As a woman who shows no partiality wins her lovers to her, so Indra confers periods of time onmankind;it is Indra who has performed that knowledge- giving achievement, therefore he is renowned; Indra's gifts areworthy of praise.

उज्जातमिन्द्र ते शव उत्त्वामुत्तव क्रतुम् । भूरिगो भूरि वावृधुर्मघवन्तव शर्मणि भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

ujjātamindra te śava uttvāmuttava kratum | bhūrigo bhūri vāvṛdhurmaghavantava śarmaṇi bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

Maghavan, rich in cattle, (those who abide) in your happiness have greatly augmented your might whenit was born, (they have greatly augmented) you, Indra and your knwoeldge; Indra's gifts are worthy of praise.

अहं च त्वं च वृत्रहन्त्सं युज्याव सनिभ्य आ । अरातीवा चिदद्रिवोऽनु नौ शूर मंसते भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

ahaṃ ca tvaṃ ca vṛtrahantsaṃ yujyāva sanibhya ā | arātīvā cidadrivo'nu nau śūra maṃsate bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

May I and you, slayer of Vṛtra, be close to you united until wealth is obtained; hero, wielding thethunderbolt, even the niggard concedes (that our union gives wealth); Indra's gifts are worthy of praise.

सत्यमिद्वा उ तं वयमिन्द्रं स्तवाम नानृतम् । महाँ असुन्वतो वधो भूरि ज्योतींषि सुन्वतो भद्रा इन्द्रस्य रातयः ॥

satyamidvā u taṃ vayamindraṃ stavāma nānṛtam | mahā~ asunvato vadho bhūri jyotīṃṣi sunvato bhadrā indrasya rātayaḥ ||

Let us praise that Indra with truth, not with untruth, great is the destruction of him who offers not but tohim who offers abundant Soma-oblations, Indra's gifts are worthy of praise.
