[rv-8-61] • 18 श्लोकाः

उभयं शृणवच्च न इन्द्रो अर्वागिदं वचः । सत्राच्या मघवा सोमपीतये धिया शविष्ठ आ गमत् ॥

ubhayaṃ śṛṇavacca na indro arvāgidaṃ vacaḥ | satrācyā maghavā somapītaye dhiyā śaviṣṭha ā gamat ||

May Indra listen to both these our hymns; may the mightiest Maghavan come to us, (plural ased) with ourdevoted offering, to drink the Soma.

तं हि स्वराजं वृषभं तमोजसे धिषणे निष्टतक्षतुः । उतोपमानां प्रथमो नि षीदसि सोमकामं हि ते मनः ॥

taṃ hi svarājaṃ vṛṣabhaṃ tamojase dhiṣaṇe niṣṭatakṣatuḥ | utopamānāṃ prathamo ni ṣīdasi somakāmaṃ hi te manaḥ ||

Him, self-resplendent, have heaven and earth formed as the showerer, him (they have formed) forstrength; therefore, you sit down first of your peers; your mind loved the Soma.

आ वृषस्व पुरूवसो सुतस्येन्द्रान्धसः । विद्मा हि त्वा हरिवः पृत्सु सासहिमधृष्टं चिद्दधृष्वणिम् ॥

ā vṛṣasva purūvaso sutasyendrāndhasaḥ | vidmā hi tvā harivaḥ pṛtsu sāsahimadhṛṣṭaṃ ciddadhṛṣvaṇim ||

Indra, possessor of much wealth, pour the effused Soma within you; possessor of (bright) coursers, weknow you, the overpowerer in battles, the unconquerable, the conqueror.

अप्रामिसत्य मघवन्तथेदसदिन्द्र क्रत्वा यथा वशः । सनेम वाजं तव शिप्रिन्नवसा मक्षू चिद्यन्तो अद्रिवः ॥

aprāmisatya maghavantathedasadindra kratvā yathā vaśaḥ | sanema vājaṃ tava śiprinnavasā makṣū cidyanto adrivaḥ ||

Indra, Maghavan of unbroken truth, it ever comes to pass as you in your knowledge may desire, by yourprotection, O handsome-jawed, may we obtain food, speedily, O thunderer, subduing our enemies.

शग्ध्यू षु शचीपत इन्द्र विश्वाभिरूतिभिः । भगं न हि त्वा यशसं वसुविदमनु शूर चरामसि ॥

śagdhyū ṣu śacīpata indra viśvābhirūtibhiḥ | bhagaṃ na hi tvā yaśasaṃ vasuvidamanu śūra carāmasi ||

Indr, lord of rites, give us (our desire) with all your helping powers; hero, we worship you as happiness,the glorious, the obtainer of wealth.

पौरो अश्वस्य पुरुकृद्गवामस्युत्सो देव हिरण्ययः । नकिर्हि दानं परिमर्धिषत्त्वे यद्यद्यामि तदा भर ॥

pauro aśvasya purukṛdgavāmasyutso deva hiraṇyayaḥ | nakirhi dānaṃ parimardhiṣattve yadyadyāmi tadā bhara ||

You are the increaser of horses, the multiplier of cows; you, deity, with your golden body; none canharm the gifts laid up for me in you; bring me whatever I ask.

त्वं ह्येहि चेरवे विदा भगं वसुत्तये । उद्वावृषस्व मघवन्गविष्टय उदिन्द्राश्वमिष्टये ॥

tvaṃ hyehi cerave vidā bhagaṃ vasuttaye | udvāvṛṣasva maghavangaviṣṭaya udindrāśvamiṣṭaye ||

You are (bounteous), come, may you obtain wealth to distribute to the worshipper; shower your bounty,Maghavan, on me desiring cows, shower it, Indra, on me desiring horses.

त्वं पुरू सहस्राणि शतानि च यूथा दानाय मंहसे । आ पुरंदरं चकृम विप्रवचस इन्द्रं गायन्तोऽवसे ॥

tvaṃ purū sahasrāṇi śatāni ca yūthā dānāya maṃhase | ā puraṃdaraṃ cakṛma vipravacasa indraṃ gāyanto'vase ||

You grant many hundreds and thousands of herds as a gift (to the offerer), uttering long praises, we,hymning Indra, the destroyer of cities, bring him before us for our protection.

अविप्रो वा यदविधद्विप्रो वेन्द्र ते वचः । स प्र ममन्दत्त्वाया शतक्रतो प्राचामन्यो अहंसन ॥

avipro vā yadavidhadvipro vendra te vacaḥ | sa pra mamandattvāyā śatakrato prācāmanyo ahaṃsana ||

Indra, whether it be the unskilled or the skilled who celebrate your praise, each rejoices in his desire foryou, O Śatakratu, whose wrath presses ever forwards, who meet the foe, proclaiming, "It is I".

उग्रबाहुर्म्रक्षकृत्वा पुरंदरो यदि मे शृणवद्धवम् । वसूयवो वसुपतिं शतक्रतुं स्तोमैरिन्द्रं हवामहे ॥

ugrabāhurmrakṣakṛtvā puraṃdaro yadi me śṛṇavaddhavam | vasūyavo vasupatiṃ śatakratuṃ stomairindraṃ havāmahe ||

If the strong-armed slayer of enemies, the destroyer of cities, will but hear my invocation, we, desiringwealth, will with our praises call one Indra Śatakratu, the lord of wealth.

न पापासो मनामहे नारायासो न जऴ्हवः । यदिन्न्विन्द्रं वृषणं सचा सुते सखायं कृणवामहै ॥

na pāpāso manāmahe nārāyāso na jaḻhavaḥ | yadinnvindraṃ vṛṣaṇaṃ sacā sute sakhāyaṃ kṛṇavāmahai ||

We are not evil who worship him, nor too poor to offer gifts, nor destitute of sacred fires-- sinceassembled together, when the Soma is effused, we make Indra, the showerer, our friend.

उग्रं युयुज्म पृतनासु सासहिमृणकातिमदाभ्यम् । वेदा भृमं चित्सनिता रथीतमो वाजिनं यमिदू नशत् ॥

ugraṃ yuyujma pṛtanāsu sāsahimṛṇakātimadābhyam | vedā bhṛmaṃ citsanitā rathītamo vājinaṃ yamidū naśat ||

We join (to our rite) the mighty Indra, the subduer of enemies in battles, the inviolate, him to whompraise is due as a debt; he, the best of charioteers, knows (among steeds) the strong racer, and (among men)he, the bounteous (knows) the offerer whom he is to reach.

यत इन्द्र भयामहे ततो नो अभयं कृधि । मघवञ्छग्धि तव तन्न ऊतिभिर्वि द्विषो वि मृधो जहि ॥

yata indra bhayāmahe tato no abhayaṃ kṛdhi | maghavañchagdhi tava tanna ūtibhirvi dviṣo vi mṛdho jahi ||

Indra, give us security from him of whom we are afraid, Maghavan, be strong for us with yourprotections; destroy our enemies, destroy those who harm us.

त्वं हि राधस्पते राधसो महः क्षयस्यासि विधतः । तं त्वा वयं मघवन्निन्द्र गिर्वणः सुतावन्तो हवामहे ॥

tvaṃ hi rādhaspate rādhaso mahaḥ kṣayasyāsi vidhataḥ | taṃ tvā vayaṃ maghavannindra girvaṇaḥ sutāvanto havāmahe ||

Lord of wealth, you are (the bestower) of great wealth and a dwelling plural ce upon your worshipper; assuch, we invoke you, bearing the Soma, O Maghavan, Indra, who are to be honoured with hymns.

इन्द्रः स्पऴुत वृत्रहा परस्पा नो वरेण्यः । स नो रक्षिषच्चरमं स मध्यमं स पश्चात्पातु नः पुरः ॥

indraḥ spaḻuta vṛtrahā paraspā no vareṇyaḥ | sa no rakṣiṣaccaramaṃ sa madhyamaṃ sa paścātpātu naḥ puraḥ ||

Indra, the all-knower, the slayer of Vṛtra, the protector, is to be chosen by us; may he guard our (son),our last (son), our middle (son), may he protect us from behind and before.

त्वं नः पश्चादधरादुत्तरात्पुर इन्द्र नि पाहि विश्वतः । आरे अस्मत्कृणुहि दैव्यं भयमारे हेतीरदेवीः ॥

tvaṃ naḥ paścādadharāduttarātpura indra ni pāhi viśvataḥ | āre asmatkṛṇuhi daivyaṃ bhayamāre hetīradevīḥ ||

Indra, protect us from the west, from the south, from the north, from the east, protect us from every side;keep far from us supernatural alarm, keep afar the weapons of the demons.

अद्याद्या श्वःश्व इन्द्र त्रास्व परे च नः । विश्वा च नो जरितॄन्त्सत्पते अहा दिवा नक्तं च रक्षिषः ॥

adyādyā śvaḥśva indra trāsva pare ca naḥ | viśvā ca no jaritṝntsatpate ahā divā naktaṃ ca rakṣiṣaḥ ||

Save us, Indra, every today, every tomorrow, and every succeeding day; lord of the good, protect us,your praisers, in all days, by day and night.

प्रभङ्गी शूरो मघवा तुवीमघः सम्मिश्लो विर्याय कम् । उभा ते बाहू वृषणा शतक्रतो नि या वज्रं मिमिक्षतुः ॥

prabhaṅgī śūro maghavā tuvīmaghaḥ sammiślo viryāya kam | ubhā te bāhū vṛṣaṇā śatakrato ni yā vajraṃ mimikṣatuḥ ||

Maghavan is the shatterer, the hero, great in wealth, and the conductor to victory (over our enemies),Śatakratu, both your arms, which grasp the thunderbolt, are the showerers (of blessings).
