[rv-8-4] • 21 श्लोकाः

यदिन्द्र प्रागपागुदङ्न्यग्वा हूयसे नृभिः । सिमा पुरू नृषूतो अस्यानवेऽसि प्रशर्ध तुर्वशे ॥

yadindra prāgapāgudaṅnyagvā hūyase nṛbhiḥ | simā purū nṛṣūto asyānave'si praśardha turvaśe ||

Inasmuch, Indra, as you are invoked by the people in the east, in the west, in the north, in the south, so,excellent Indra, have you been incited by men on behalf of the son of Anu; so, overcomer of foes, (have you beencalled upon) on behalf of Turvaśa.

यद्वा रुमे रुशमे श्यावके कृप इन्द्र मादयसे सचा । कण्वासस्त्वा ब्रह्मभिः स्तोमवाहस इन्द्रा यच्छन्त्या गहि ॥

yadvā rume ruśame śyāvake kṛpa indra mādayase sacā | kaṇvāsastvā brahmabhiḥ stomavāhasa indrā yacchantyā gahi ||

Inasmuch, Indra, as you have been exhilarated in the society of Ruma, Ruśama, Śyāvaka and Kṛpa,so the Kaṇvas, bearers of oblations, attract you with their praises, (therefore) come here.

यथा गौरो अपा कृतं तृष्यन्नेत्यवेरिणम् । आपित्वे नः प्रपित्वे तूयमा गहि कण्वेषु सु सचा पिब ॥

yathā gauro apā kṛtaṃ tṛṣyannetyaveriṇam | āpitve naḥ prapitve tūyamā gahi kaṇveṣu su sacā piba ||

As the thirsty Gaura hastens to the pool filled with water in the desert, so, (Indra), our affinity beingacknowledged, come quickly, and drink freely with the Kaṇvas.

मन्दन्तु त्वा मघवन्निन्द्रेन्दवो राधोदेयाय सुन्वते । आमुष्या सोममपिबश्चमू सुतं ज्येष्ठं तद्दधिषे सहः ॥

mandantu tvā maghavannindrendavo rādhodeyāya sunvate | āmuṣyā somamapibaścamū sutaṃ jyeṣṭhaṃ taddadhiṣe sahaḥ ||

Opulent Indra, may the Soma drops exhilate you, that you may bestow wealth on the donor of thelibation; for taking it by stealth (when given), you have drunk the Soma poured out into the ladle, and havethence sustained pre- eminent strength.

प्र चक्रे सहसा सहो बभञ्ज मन्युमोजसा । विश्वे त इन्द्र पृतनायवो यहो नि वृक्षा इव येमिरे ॥

pra cakre sahasā saho babhañja manyumojasā | viśve ta indra pṛtanāyavo yaho ni vṛkṣā iva yemire ||

By his strength he has overpowered the strength (of his foes), he has crushed thei wrath by hisprowess; all hostile armies have been arrested like trees (immoveable through fear), mighty Indra, by you.

सहस्रेणेव सचते यवीयुधा यस्त आनऴुपस्तुतिम् । पुत्रं प्रावर्गं कृणुते सुवीर्ये दाश्नोति नमौक्तिभिः ॥

sahasreṇeva sacate yavīyudhā yasta ānaḻupastutim | putraṃ prāvargaṃ kṛṇute suvīrye dāśnoti namauktibhiḥ ||

He who has made his praise attain to you associates himself with a thousand gallant combatants; hewho offers oblations with reverence begets a valiant son, the scatterer (of enemies).

मा भेम मा श्रमिष्मोग्रस्य सख्ये तव । महत्ते वृष्णो अभिचक्ष्यं कृतं पश्येम तुर्वशं यदुम् ॥

mā bhema mā śramiṣmograsya sakhye tava | mahatte vṛṣṇo abhicakṣyaṃ kṛtaṃ paśyema turvaśaṃ yadum ||

(Secure) in the friendship of you who are terrible, let us not fear, let us not be harassed; great andglorious, showerer (of benefits), are your deeds, as we may behold them in the case of Turvaśa, of Yadu.

सव्यामनु स्फिग्यं वावसे वृषा न दानो अस्य रोषति । मध्वा सम्पृक्ताः सारघेण धेनवस्तूयमेहि द्रवा पिब ॥

savyāmanu sphigyaṃ vāvase vṛṣā na dāno asya roṣati | madhvā sampṛktāḥ sāragheṇa dhenavastūyamehi dravā piba ||

The showerer (of benefits) with his left hip covers (the world), no tearer (of it) angers him; the delightful(Soma juices) are mixed with the sweet honey of the bee; come quickly hither, hasten, drink.

अश्वी रथी सुरूप इद्गोमाँ इदिन्द्र ते सखा । श्वात्रभाजा वयसा सचते सदा चन्द्रो याति सभामुप ॥

aśvī rathī surūpa idgomā~ idindra te sakhā | śvātrabhājā vayasā sacate sadā candro yāti sabhāmupa ||

He who is your friend, Indra, is verily possessed of horses, of cars, of cattle, and is of goodly form; he isever supplied with food-comprising riches, and delighting all, he enters an assembly.

ऋश्यो न तृष्यन्नवपानमा गहि पिबा सोमं वशाँ अनु । निमेघमानो मघवन्दिवेदिव ओजिष्ठं दधिषे सहः ॥

ṛśyo na tṛṣyannavapānamā gahi pibā somaṃ vaśā~ anu | nimeghamāno maghavandivediva ojiṣṭhaṃ dadhiṣe sahaḥ ||

Come like a thirsty deer to the watering plural ce, drink at will of the Soma, whence, daily driving down theclouds, you sustain, Maghavan, most vigorous strength.

अध्वर्यो द्रावया त्वं सोममिन्द्रः पिपासति । उप नूनं युयुजे वृषणा हरी आ च जगाम वृत्रहा ॥

adhvaryo drāvayā tvaṃ somamindraḥ pipāsati | upa nūnaṃ yuyuje vṛṣaṇā harī ā ca jagāma vṛtrahā ||

Quickly, priest, pour forth the Soma, for Indra is thirsty; verily he has harnessed his vigorous steeds, theslayer of Vṛtra has arrived.

स्वयं चित्स मन्यते दाशुरिर्जनो यत्रा सोमस्य तृम्पसि । इदं ते अन्नं युज्यं समुक्षितं तस्येहि प्र द्रवा पिब ॥

svayaṃ citsa manyate dāśurirjano yatrā somasya tṛmpasi | idaṃ te annaṃ yujyaṃ samukṣitaṃ tasyehi pra dravā piba ||

The man who is the donor (of the oblation), he with (the gift of whose) libation you are satisfied,possesses of himself understanding; this your appropriate food is ready; come, hasten, drink of it.

रथेष्ठायाध्वर्यवः सोममिन्द्राय सोतन । अधि ब्रध्नस्याद्रयो वि चक्षते सुन्वन्तो दाश्वध्वरम् ॥

ratheṣṭhāyādhvaryavaḥ somamindrāya sotana | adhi bradhnasyādrayo vi cakṣate sunvanto dāśvadhvaram ||

Pour our, priests, the Soma libation to Indra in his chariot; the stones, plural ced upon their bases, arebeheld effusing the Soma for the sacrifice of the offerer.

उप ब्रध्नं वावाता वृषणा हरी इन्द्रमपसु वक्षतः । अर्वाञ्चं त्वा सप्तयोऽध्वरश्रियो वहन्तु सवनेदुप ॥

upa bradhnaṃ vāvātā vṛṣaṇā harī indramapasu vakṣataḥ | arvāñcaṃ tvā saptayo'dhvaraśriyo vahantu savanedupa ||

May his vigorous horses, repeatedly traversing the firmament, bring Indra to our rites; may your steeds,glorious through sacrifice, bring you indeed to the (daily) ceremonials.

प्र पूषणं वृणीमहे युज्याय पुरूवसुम् । स शक्र शिक्ष पुरुहूत नो धिया तुजे राये विमोचन ॥

pra pūṣaṇaṃ vṛṇīmahe yujyāya purūvasum | sa śakra śikṣa puruhūta no dhiyā tuje rāye vimocana ||

We have recourse to the opulent Pūṣan for his alliance; do you, Śakra, the adored of many, theliberator (from iniquity), enable us to acquire by our intelligence, wealth and victory.

सं नः शिशीहि भुरिजोरिव क्षुरं रास्व रायो विमोचन । त्वे तन्नः सुवेदमुस्रियं वसु यं त्वं हिनोषि मर्त्यम् ॥

saṃ naḥ śiśīhi bhurijoriva kṣuraṃ rāsva rāyo vimocana | tve tannaḥ suvedamusriyaṃ vasu yaṃ tvaṃ hinoṣi martyam ||

Sharpen us like a razor in the hands (of a barber); grant us riches, liberator (from iniquity), the wealth ofcattle easily obtained by us from you, such wealth as you bestow upon the (pious) mortal.

वेमि त्वा पूषन्नृञ्जसे वेमि स्तोतव आघृणे । न तस्य वेम्यरणं हि तद्वसो स्तुषे पज्राय साम्ने ॥

vemi tvā pūṣannṛñjase vemi stotava āghṛṇe | na tasya vemyaraṇaṃ hi tadvaso stuṣe pajrāya sāmne ||

I desire, Pūṣan, to propitiate you; I desire, illustrious deity, to glorify you; I desire not (to offer)ungracious praise to any other; (grant riches), bestower of wealth, to him who praises, eulogizes, and glorifiesyou.

परा गावो यवसं कच्चिदाघृणे नित्यं रेक्णो अमर्त्य । अस्माकं पूषन्नविता शिवो भव मंहिष्ठो वाजसातये ॥

parā gāvo yavasaṃ kaccidāghṛṇe nityaṃ rekṇo amartya | asmākaṃ pūṣannavitā śivo bhava maṃhiṣṭho vājasātaye ||

Illustrious (Pūṣan), my cattle go forth occasionally to pasture, may that wealth (of herds), immortaldeity, be permanent; being my protector, Pūṣan, be the granter of felicity, be most bountiful in bestowing food.

स्थूरं राधः शताश्वं कुरुङ्गस्य दिविष्टिषु । राज्ञस्त्वेषस्य सुभगस्य रातिषु तुर्वशेष्वमन्महि ॥

sthūraṃ rādhaḥ śatāśvaṃ kuruṅgasya diviṣṭiṣu | rājñastveṣasya subhagasya rātiṣu turvaśeṣvamanmahi ||

We acknowledge the substantial wealth (of the gift) of a hundred horses, the donation made to usamong men at the holy solemnities of the illustrious and auspicious Rājā Kuruṅga.

धीभिः सातानि काण्वस्य वाजिनः प्रियमेधैरभिद्युभिः । षष्टिं सहस्रानु निर्मजामजे निर्यूथानि गवामृषिः ॥

dhībhiḥ sātāni kāṇvasya vājinaḥ priyamedhairabhidyubhiḥ | ṣaṣṭiṃ sahasrānu nirmajāmaje niryūthāni gavāmṛṣiḥ ||

I, the Ṛṣi (Devātithi), have received subsequently the complete donation; the sixty thousand herds ofpure cattle merited by the devotions of the pious son of Kaṇva, and by the illustrious Priyamedhas.

वृक्षाश्चिन्मे अभिपित्वे अरारणुः । गां भजन्त मेहनाश्वं भजन्त मेहना ॥

vṛkṣāścinme abhipitve arāraṇuḥ | gāṃ bhajanta mehanāśvaṃ bhajanta mehanā ||

Upon the acceptance of this donation to me, the very trees have exclaimed; (see these ṛṣis) haveacquired excellent cows excellent horses.
