[rv-8-5] • 39 श्लोकाः

दूरादिहेव यत्सत्यरुणप्सुरशिश्वितत् । वि भानुं विश्वधातनत् ॥

dūrādiheva yatsatyaruṇapsuraśiśvitat | vi bhānuṃ viśvadhātanat ||

When the shining dawn, advancing hither from afar, whitens (all things), she spreads the light on allsides.

नृवद्दस्रा मनोयुजा रथेन पृथुपाजसा । सचेथे अश्विनोषसम् ॥

nṛvaddasrā manoyujā rathena pṛthupājasā | sacethe aśvinoṣasam ||

And you, Aśvins, of goodly aspect, accompany the dawn like leader with your mighty chariot harnessedat a thought.

युवाभ्यां वाजिनीवसू प्रति स्तोमा अदृक्षत । वाचं दूतो यथोहिषे ॥

yuvābhyāṃ vājinīvasū prati stomā adṛkṣata | vācaṃ dūto yathohiṣe ||

By you, affluent in sacrifices, may our praises be severally accepted; I bear the words (of theworshipper) like a messenger (to you).

पुरुप्रिया ण ऊतये पुरुमन्द्रा पुरूवसू । स्तुषे कण्वासो अश्विना ॥

purupriyā ṇa ūtaye purumandrā purūvasū | stuṣe kaṇvāso aśvinā ||

We, Kaṇvas, praise for our protection the many-loved, the many- delighting Aśvins, abounding inwealth.

मंहिष्ठा वाजसातमेषयन्ता शुभस्पती । गन्तारा दाशुषो गृहम् ॥

maṃhiṣṭhā vājasātameṣayantā śubhaspatī | gantārā dāśuṣo gṛham ||

Most adorable bestowwers of strength, distributors of food, lords of opulence, repairers to the dwellingof the donor (of the oblation).

ता सुदेवाय दाशुषे सुमेधामवितारिणीम् । घृतैर्गव्यूतिमुक्षतम् ॥

tā sudevāya dāśuṣe sumedhāmavitāriṇīm | ghṛtairgavyūtimukṣatam ||

Sprinkle well with water the pure unfailing pasturage (of his cattle) for the devout donor (of theoblation).

आ नः स्तोममुप द्रवत्तूयं श्येनेभिराशुभिः । यातमश्वेभिरश्विना ॥

ā naḥ stomamupa dravattūyaṃ śyenebhirāśubhiḥ | yātamaśvebhiraśvinā ||

Come, Aśvins, to our adoration, hastening quickly with your rapid falcon-like horses.

येभिस्तिस्रः परावतो दिवो विश्वानि रोचना । त्रीँरक्तून्परिदीयथः ॥

yebhistisraḥ parāvato divo viśvāni rocanā | trī~raktūnparidīyathaḥ ||

With which in three days and three nights you traverse from afar all the brilliant (constellations).

उत नो गोमतीरिष उत सातीरहर्विदा । वि पथः सातये सितम् ॥

uta no gomatīriṣa uta sātīraharvidā | vi pathaḥ sātaye sitam ||

Bringers of the day, (bestow) upon us food with cattle, or donations of wealth, and close the path(against aggression) upon our gains.

आ नो गोमन्तमश्विना सुवीरं सुरथं रयिम् । वोऴ्हमश्वावतीरिषः ॥

ā no gomantamaśvinā suvīraṃ surathaṃ rayim | voḻhamaśvāvatīriṣaḥ ||

Bring to us, Aśvins, riches comprising cattle, male offspring, chariots, horses, food.

वावृधाना शुभस्पती दस्रा हिरण्यवर्तनी । पिबतं सोम्यं मधु ॥

vāvṛdhānā śubhaspatī dasrā hiraṇyavartanī | pibataṃ somyaṃ madhu ||

Magnificent lords of good fortune, handsome Aśvins, riding in a golden chariot, drink the sweet Soma.

अस्मभ्यं वाजिनीवसू मघवद्भ्यश्च सप्रथः । छर्दिर्यन्तमदाभ्यम् ॥

asmabhyaṃ vājinīvasū maghavadbhyaśca saprathaḥ | chardiryantamadābhyam ||

Affluent i sacrifices, grant to us who are opulent (in oblations) a spacious unassailable dwelling.

नि षु ब्रह्म जनानां याविष्टं तूयमा गतम् । मो ष्वन्याँ उपारतम् ॥

ni ṣu brahma janānāṃ yāviṣṭaṃ tūyamā gatam | mo ṣvanyā~ upāratam ||

Do you ever carefully protect the Brahman among men, come quickly; tarry not with other(worshippers).

अस्य पिबतमश्विना युवं मदस्य चारुणः । मध्वो रातस्य धिष्ण्या ॥

asya pibatamaśvinā yuvaṃ madasya cāruṇaḥ | madhvo rātasya dhiṣṇyā ||

Adorable Aśvins, drink of this exhilarating, delightful, sweet Soma, presented by us.

अस्मे आ वहतं रयिं शतवन्तं सहस्रिणम् । पुरुक्षुं विश्वधायसम् ॥

asme ā vahataṃ rayiṃ śatavantaṃ sahasriṇam | purukṣuṃ viśvadhāyasam ||

Bring unto us riches by hundreds and by thousands, desired by many, sustaining all.

पुरुत्रा चिद्धि वां नरा विह्वयन्ते मनीषिणः । वाघद्भिरश्विना गतम् ॥

purutrā ciddhi vāṃ narā vihvayante manīṣiṇaḥ | vāghadbhiraśvinā gatam ||

Leaders (of rites), wise men worship you in many plural ces; come to us with your steeds.

जनासो वृक्तबर्हिषो हविष्मन्तो अरंकृतः । युवां हवन्ते अश्विना ॥

janāso vṛktabarhiṣo haviṣmanto araṃkṛtaḥ | yuvāṃ havante aśvinā ||

Men bearing the clipped sacred grass, presenting oblations, and completely fulfilling (their functions),worship you, Aśvin.

अस्माकमद्य वामयं स्तोमो वाहिष्ठो अन्तमः । युवाभ्यां भूत्वश्विना ॥

asmākamadya vāmayaṃ stomo vāhiṣṭho antamaḥ | yuvābhyāṃ bhūtvaśvinā ||

May this our praise today be conveyed successfully to you, Aśvins, and be most near to you.

यो ह वां मधुनो दृतिराहितो रथचर्षणे । ततः पिबतमश्विना ॥

yo ha vāṃ madhuno dṛtirāhito rathacarṣaṇe | tataḥ pibatamaśvinā ||

Drink, Aśvins, from the skin (filled) with the sweet (Soma) which is suspended in view of your car.

तेन नो वाजिनीवसू पश्वे तोकाय शं गवे । वहतं पीवरीरिषः ॥

tena no vājinīvasū paśve tokāya śaṃ gave | vahataṃ pīvarīriṣaḥ ||

Affluent in oblations, bring to us with that (chariot) abundant food, so that there may be prosperity inhorses, progeny, and cattle.

उत नो दिव्या इष उत सिन्धूँरहर्विदा । अप द्वारेव वर्षथः ॥

uta no divyā iṣa uta sindhū~raharvidā | apa dvāreva varṣathaḥ ||

Bringers of the day, you rain upon us by the (open) door (of the clouds) the waters of heaven, or (withthem fill) the rivers.

कदा वां तौग्र्यो विधत्समुद्रे जहितो नरा । यद्वां रथो विभिष्पतात् ॥

kadā vāṃ taugryo vidhatsamudre jahito narā | yadvāṃ ratho vibhiṣpatāt ||

When did the son of Tugra, thrown into the ocean, glorify you, leaders (of rites)? then when yourchariot and horses descended.

युवं कण्वाय नासत्या ऋपिरिप्ताय हर्म्ये । शश्वदूतीर्दशस्यथः ॥

yuvaṃ kaṇvāya nāsatyā ṛpiriptāya harmye | śaśvadūtīrdaśasyathaḥ ||

to Kaṇva when blinded (by the Asuras) in his dwelling, you rendered, Na-satyās, effectual aiḍ

ताभिरा यातमूतिभिर्नव्यसीभिः सुशस्तिभिः । यद्वां वृषण्वसू हुवे ॥

tābhirā yātamūtibhirnavyasībhiḥ suśastibhiḥ | yadvāṃ vṛṣaṇvasū huve ||

Rich in showers, come with your newest and most excellent protections when I call upon you.

यथा चित्कण्वमावतं प्रियमेधमुपस्तुतम् । अत्रिं शिञ्जारमश्विना ॥

yathā citkaṇvamāvataṃ priyamedhamupastutam | atriṃ śiñjāramaśvinā ||

In like manner as you protected Kaṇva, Priyamedha, Upastuta, and the praise-repeating Atri.

यथोत कृत्व्ये धनेंऽशुं गोष्वगस्त्यम् । यथा वाजेषु सोभरिम् ॥

yathota kṛtvye dhaneṃ'śuṃ goṣvagastyam | yathā vājeṣu sobharim ||

And in like manner as (you protected) Anshu when wealth was to be bestowed, and Agastya when hiscattle (were to be recovered), and Sobhari when food (was to be supplied to him).

एतावद्वां वृषण्वसू अतो वा भूयो अश्विना । गृणन्तः सुम्नमीमहे ॥

etāvadvāṃ vṛṣaṇvasū ato vā bhūyo aśvinā | gṛṇantaḥ sumnamīmahe ||

So pariasing you, Aśvins, rich in showers, we solicit of you happiness as great or greater than that(which they obtained).

रथं हिरण्यवन्धुरं हिरण्याभीशुमश्विना । आ हि स्थाथो दिविस्पृशम् ॥

rathaṃ hiraṇyavandhuraṃ hiraṇyābhīśumaśvinā | ā hi sthātho divispṛśam ||

Ascend, Aśvins, your sky-touching chariot with a golden seat and golden reins.

हिरण्ययी वां रभिरीषा अक्षो हिरण्ययः । उभा चक्रा हिरण्यया ॥

hiraṇyayī vāṃ rabhirīṣā akṣo hiraṇyayaḥ | ubhā cakrā hiraṇyayā ||

Golden is its supporting shaft, golden the axle, golden both the wheels.

तेन नो वाजिनीवसू परावतश्चिदा गतम् । उपेमां सुष्टुतिं मम ॥

tena no vājinīvasū parāvataścidā gatam | upemāṃ suṣṭutiṃ mama ||

Come to us, affluent in sacrifices, from afar, come to this mine adoration.

आ वहेथे पराकात्पूर्वीरश्नन्तावश्विना । इषो दासीरमर्त्या ॥

ā vahethe parākātpūrvīraśnantāvaśvinā | iṣo dāsīramartyā ||

Immortal Aśvins, destroyers of the cities of the Dāsas, you bring to us food from afar.

आ नो द्युम्नैरा श्रवोभिरा राया यातमश्विना । पुरुश्चन्द्रा नासत्या ॥

ā no dyumnairā śravobhirā rāyā yātamaśvinā | puruścandrā nāsatyā ||

Come to us, Aśvins, with food, with fame, with riches, Nāsatyās, delighters of many.

एह वां प्रुषितप्सवो वयो वहन्तु पर्णिनः । अच्छा स्वध्वरं जनम् ॥

eha vāṃ pruṣitapsavo vayo vahantu parṇinaḥ | acchā svadhvaraṃ janam ||

Let your sleek, winged, rapid (horses) bring you to the presence of the man offering holy sacrifice.

रथं वामनुगायसं य इषा वर्तते सह । न चक्रमभि बाधते ॥

rathaṃ vāmanugāyasaṃ ya iṣā vartate saha | na cakramabhi bādhate ||

No hostile force arrests that car of yours which is hymned (by the devout), and which is laden with food.

हिरण्ययेन रथेन द्रवत्पाणिभिरश्वैः । धीजवना नासत्या ॥

hiraṇyayena rathena dravatpāṇibhiraśvaiḥ | dhījavanā nāsatyā ||

Rapid as thought, Nāsatyās, (come) with your golden chariot drawn by quick-footed steeds.

युवं मृगं जागृवांसं स्वदथो वा वृषण्वसू । ता नः पृङ्क्तमिषा रयिम् ॥

yuvaṃ mṛgaṃ jāgṛvāṃsaṃ svadatho vā vṛṣaṇvasū | tā naḥ pṛṅktamiṣā rayim ||

Affluent in showers, taste the wakeful desirable Soma; combine for us riches with food.

ता मे अश्विना सनीनां विद्यातं नवानाम् । यथा चिच्चैद्यः कशुः शतमुष्ट्रानां ददत्सहस्रा दश गोनाम् ॥

tā me aśvinā sanīnāṃ vidyātaṃ navānām | yathā ciccaidyaḥ kaśuḥ śatamuṣṭrānāṃ dadatsahasrā daśa gonām ||

Become appraised, Aśvins, of my recent gifts, how that Kaśu, the son of Cedi, has presented me with ahundred camels and ten thousand cows.

यो मे हिरण्यसंदृशो दश राज्ञो अमंहत । अधस्पदा इच्चैद्यस्य कृष्टयश्चर्मम्ना अभितो जनाः ॥

yo me hiraṇyasaṃdṛśo daśa rājño amaṃhata | adhaspadā iccaidyasya kṛṣṭayaścarmamnā abhito janāḥ ||

The son of Cedi, who has given me for servants ten Rājās, bright as gold, for all men are beneath hisfeet; all those around him wear cuirasses of leather.

माकिरेना पथा गाद्येनेमे यन्ति चेदयः । अन्यो नेत्सूरिरोहते भूरिदावत्तरो जनः ॥

mākirenā pathā gādyeneme yanti cedayaḥ | anyo netsūrirohate bhūridāvattaro janaḥ ||

No one proceeds by that path which the Cedis follow, no other proud man as a more liberal benefactorconfers (favour on those who praise him).
