[rv-8-32] • 30 श्लोकाः

प्र कृतान्यृजीषिणः कण्वा इन्द्रस्य गाथया । मदे सोमस्य वोचत ॥

pra kṛtānyṛjīṣiṇaḥ kaṇvā indrasya gāthayā | made somasya vocata ||

Celebrate with songs the great deeds of Indra, the drinker of the stale Soma, when in his exhilaration.

यः सृबिन्दमनर्शनिं पिप्रुं दासमहीशुवम् । वधीदुग्रो रिणन्नपः ॥

yaḥ sṛbindamanarśaniṃ pipruṃ dāsamahīśuvam | vadhīdugro riṇannapaḥ ||

The fierce (deity) who, liberating the waters, has slain Sṛbinda, Anarśani, Pipru, Dāsa and Ahiśuva.

न्यर्बुदस्य विष्टपं वर्ष्माणं बृहतस्तिर । कृषे तदिन्द्र पौंस्यम् ॥

nyarbudasya viṣṭapaṃ varṣmāṇaṃ bṛhatastira | kṛṣe tadindra pauṃsyam ||

Pierce the rain-holding domain of the vast Arbuda; achieve, Indra, this manly exploit.

प्रति श्रुताय वो धृषत्तूर्णाशं न गिरेरधि । हुवे सुशिप्रमूतये ॥

prati śrutāya vo dhṛṣattūrṇāśaṃ na gireradhi | huve suśipramūtaye ||

I invoke the victorious handsome-jawed Indra for your protection, and to hear (your praises), as (atraveller invokes) the water from the cloud.

स गोरश्वस्य वि व्रजं मन्दानः सोम्येभ्यः । पुरं न शूर दर्षसि ॥

sa goraśvasya vi vrajaṃ mandānaḥ somyebhyaḥ | puraṃ na śūra darṣasi ||

Exhilarated by the Soma draughts, you, hero, throw open the pastures of the cattle and horses like a(hostile) city.

यदि मे रारणः सुत उक्थे वा दधसे चनः । आरादुप स्वधा गहि ॥

yadi me rāraṇaḥ suta ukthe vā dadhase canaḥ | ārādupa svadhā gahi ||

If you are propitiated by my libation and praise, and bestow food (upon me), come with viands from afar.

वयं घा ते अपि ष्मसि स्तोतार इन्द्र गिर्वणः । त्वं नो जिन्व सोमपाः ॥

vayaṃ ghā te api ṣmasi stotāra indra girvaṇaḥ | tvaṃ no jinva somapāḥ ||

Indra, who are plural ased by praise, we are your adorers; do you, therefore, who are the drinker of theSoma, be genitive rous unto us.

उत नः पितुमा भर संरराणो अविक्षितम् । मघवन्भूरि ते वसु ॥

uta naḥ pitumā bhara saṃrarāṇo avikṣitam | maghavanbhūri te vasu ||

Gratified by us, bring us undiminished food, Maghavan, for vast is your wealth.

उत नो गोमतस्कृधि हिरण्यवतो अश्विनः । इऴाभिः सं रभेमहि ॥

uta no gomataskṛdhi hiraṇyavato aśvinaḥ | iḻābhiḥ saṃ rabhemahi ||

Make us (Indra) possessed of cattle, of gold, and of horses; may we prosper with abundant viands.

बृबदुक्थं हवामहे सृप्रकरस्नमूतये । साधु कृण्वन्तमवसे ॥

bṛbadukthaṃ havāmahe sṛprakarasnamūtaye | sādhu kṛṇvantamavase ||

We invoke Indra, who is greatly to be praised, whose arm is stretched out for the protection (of theworld), acting nobly for our defence.

यः संस्थे चिच्छतक्रतुरादीं कृणोति वृत्रहा । जरितृभ्यः पुरूवसुः ॥

yaḥ saṃsthe cicchatakraturādīṃ kṛṇoti vṛtrahā | jaritṛbhyaḥ purūvasuḥ ||

The slayer of Vṛtra, the accomplisher of a hundred exploits in war, achieves them that he may be thegiver of much wealth to his worshippers.

स नः शक्रश्चिदा शकद्दानवाँ अन्तराभरः । इन्द्रो विश्वाभिरूतिभिः ॥

sa naḥ śakraścidā śakaddānavā~ antarābharaḥ | indro viśvābhirūtibhiḥ ||

May Śakra give us strength, may the liberal Indra with all protections be the supplier of our deficiencieṣ

यो रायोऽवनिर्महान्त्सुपारः सुन्वतः सखा । तमिन्द्रमभि गायत ॥

yo rāyo'vanirmahāntsupāraḥ sunvataḥ sakhā | tamindramabhi gāyata ||

Glorify that Indra who is the preserver of riches, the mighty, the conveyor beyond (calamity), the friendof the offerer of the libation.

आयन्तारं महि स्थिरं पृतनासु श्रवोजितम् । भूरेरीशानमोजसा ॥

āyantāraṃ mahi sthiraṃ pṛtanāsu śravojitam | bhūrerīśānamojasā ||

Him who comes near, the mighty, the firm in battles, the acquirer of fame, the lord of vast riches throughhis prowess.

नकिरस्य शचीनां नियन्ता सूनृतानाम् । नकिर्वक्ता न दादिति ॥

nakirasya śacīnāṃ niyantā sūnṛtānām | nakirvaktā na dāditi ||

No one puts a limit to his glorious deeds, no one asserts that he is not genitive rous.

न नूनं ब्रह्मणामृणं प्राशूनामस्ति सुन्वताम् । न सोमो अप्रता पपे ॥

na nūnaṃ brahmaṇāmṛṇaṃ prāśūnāmasti sunvatām | na somo apratā pape ||

Verily no debt is due (to the gods) by those Soma-partaking brāhmaṇas offering libations; the Soma isnot drunk without the expenditure of boundless (wealth).

पन्य इदुप गायत पन्य उक्थानि शंसत । ब्रह्मा कृणोत पन्य इत् ॥

panya idupa gāyata panya ukthāni śaṃsata | brahmā kṛṇota panya it ||

Sing praises to the adorable (Indra), repeat prayers to the adorable (Indra), address hymns to theadorable (Indra).

पन्य आ दर्दिरच्छता सहस्रा वाज्यवृतः । इन्द्रो यो यज्वनो वृधः ॥

panya ā dardiracchatā sahasrā vājyavṛtaḥ | indro yo yajvano vṛdhaḥ ||

The powerful Indra, the discomfiter of hundreds and thousands, unchecked (by foes), is adorable; hewho is the benefactor of the sacrificer.

वि षू चर स्वधा अनु कृष्टीनामन्वाहुवः । इन्द्र पिब सुतानाम् ॥

vi ṣū cara svadhā anu kṛṣṭīnāmanvāhuvaḥ | indra piba sutānām ||

Indra, who are to be invoked of man, come to their offered viands, drink of (their) libations.

पिब स्वधैनवानामुत यस्तुग्र्ये सचा । उतायमिन्द्र यस्तव ॥

piba svadhainavānāmuta yastugrye sacā | utāyamindra yastava ||

Drink of the (Soma) purchased by the cow, that (Soma) which is mixed with water, that by which, Indra,is especially yours.

अतीहि मन्युषाविणं सुषुवांसमुपारणे । इमं रातं सुतं पिब ॥

atīhi manyuṣāviṇaṃ suṣuvāṃsamupāraṇe | imaṃ rātaṃ sutaṃ piba ||

Indra, pass by the man who offers the libation in anger, him who pours it out upon a spot disapprovedof; drink this presented Soma.

इहि तिस्रः परावत इहि पञ्च जनाँ अति । धेना इन्द्रावचाकशत् ॥

ihi tisraḥ parāvata ihi pañca janā~ ati | dhenā indrāvacākaśat ||

Indra, who has beheld our praises, proceed in three directions from a distance, pass beyond the fiveorders of beings.

सूर्यो रश्मिं यथा सृजा त्वा यच्छन्तु मे गिरः । निम्नमापो न सध्र्यक् ॥

sūryo raśmiṃ yathā sṛjā tvā yacchantu me giraḥ | nimnamāpo na sadhryak ||

As the sun disperses his rays, do you disperse (wealth upon me); may my praises rapidly draw you, aswaters (reach) the low ground.

अध्वर्यवा तु हि षिञ्च सोमं वीराय शिप्रिणे । भरा सुतस्य पीतये ॥

adhvaryavā tu hi ṣiñca somaṃ vīrāya śipriṇe | bharā sutasya pītaye ||

Adhvaryu, quickly pour forth the Soma to the hero Indra with the goodly jaws; bring the Soma for hisdrinking.

य उद्नः फलिगं भिनन्न्यक्सिन्धूँरवासृजत् । यो गोषु पक्वं धारयत् ॥

ya udnaḥ phaligaṃ bhinannyaksindhū~ravāsṛjat | yo goṣu pakvaṃ dhārayat ||

Who clove the cloud for (the issue of) the rain, who sent down the waters, who plural ced the mature (milk)in the cattle.

अहन्वृत्रमृचीषम और्णवाभमहीशुवम् । हिमेनाविध्यदर्बुदम् ॥

ahanvṛtramṛcīṣama aurṇavābhamahīśuvam | himenāvidhyadarbudam ||

The brilliant Indra slew Vṛtra, Aurṇavābha, Ahiśava; he smote Arbuda with frost.

प्र व उग्राय निष्टुरेऽषाऴ्हाय प्रसक्षिणे । देवत्तं ब्रह्म गायत ॥

pra va ugrāya niṣṭure'ṣāḻhāya prasakṣiṇe | devattaṃ brahma gāyata ||

Sing aloud (priests) to the fierce, victorious (Indra) the overpowerer, the subduer (of foes), the praiseinspired by the gods.

यो विश्वान्यभि व्रता सोमस्य मदे अन्धसः । इन्द्रो देवेषु चेतति ॥

yo viśvānyabhi vratā somasya made andhasaḥ | indro deveṣu cetati ||

Indra, who, in the exhilaration of the quaffed Soma, makes known among the gods all pious rites.

इह त्या सधमाद्या हरी हिरण्यकेश्या । वोऴ्हामभि प्रयो हितम् ॥

iha tyā sadhamādyā harī hiraṇyakeśyā | voḻhāmabhi prayo hitam ||

May those two golden-maned steeds, together exulting, bring him here to the salutary (sacrificial) food.

अर्वाञ्चं त्वा पुरुष्टुत प्रियमेधस्तुता हरी । सोमपेयाय वक्षतः ॥

arvāñcaṃ tvā puruṣṭuta priyamedhastutā harī | somapeyāya vakṣataḥ ||

Indra, the glorified of many, let your horses, praised by Priyamedha, bring you down to drink the Soma.
