[rv-8-31] • 18 श्लोकाः

यो यजाति यजात इत्सुनवच्च पचाति च । ब्रह्मेदिन्द्रस्य चाकनत् ॥

yo yajāti yajāta itsunavacca pacāti ca | brahmedindrasya cākanat ||

He who offers oblations (to the gods, again) offers them; he pours forth libations and presents (thesacred cake), he delights in reiterating the praise verily of Indra.

पुरोऴाशं यो अस्मै सोमं ररत आशिरम् । पादित्तं शक्रो अंहसः ॥

puroḻāśaṃ yo asmai somaṃ rarata āśiram | pādittaṃ śakro aṃhasaḥ ||

Indra protects from sin that man who offers him cakes and presents Soma mixed with milk.

तस्य द्युमाँ असद्रथो देवजूतः स शूशुवत् । विश्वा वन्वन्नमित्रिया ॥

tasya dyumā~ asadratho devajūtaḥ sa śūśuvat | viśvā vanvannamitriyā ||

A brilliant chariot comes to him, sent by the gods, with which, baffling all hostilities, he prospers.

अस्य प्रजावती गृहेऽसश्चन्ती दिवेदिवे । इऴा धेनुमती दुहे ॥

asya prajāvatī gṛhe'saścantī divedive | iḻā dhenumatī duhe ||

In his house perpetual abundance, accompanied by progeny, (is present), and kine are milked day byday.

या दम्पती समनसा सुनुत आ च धावतः । देवासो नित्ययाशिरा ॥

yā dampatī samanasā sunuta ā ca dhāvataḥ | devāso nityayāśirā ||

Gods, may the husband and wife, who with one mind offer libations and purify them, and (propitiateyou) with the Soma ever mixed with milk.

प्रति प्राशव्याँ इतः सम्यञ्चा बर्हिराशाते । न ता वाजेषु वायतः ॥

prati prāśavyā~ itaḥ samyañcā barhirāśāte | na tā vājeṣu vāyataḥ ||

Constantly associated, may they acquire appropriate (sacrificial) viands; may they be able to offersacrifice; may the never be wanting in food (given by the gods).

न देवानामपि ह्नुतः सुमतिं न जुगुक्षतः । श्रवो बृहद्विवासतः ॥

na devānāmapi hnutaḥ sumatiṃ na jugukṣataḥ | śravo bṛhadvivāsataḥ ||

They retract not (their promises) to the gods, they withhold not your praise, but offer abundant(sacrificial) food.

पुत्रिणा ता कुमारिणा विश्वमायुर्व्यश्नुतः । उभा हिरण्यपेशसा ॥

putriṇā tā kumāriṇā viśvamāyurvyaśnutaḥ | ubhā hiraṇyapeśasā ||

Blessed with youthful and adolescent offsprin, and both having their person ns richly ornamented, theypass (happily) their whole life.

वीतिहोत्रा कृतद्वसू दशस्यन्तामृताय कम् । समूधो रोमशं हतो देवेषु कृणुतो दुवः ॥

vītihotrā kṛtadvasū daśasyantāmṛtāya kam | samūdho romaśaṃ hato deveṣu kṛṇuto duvaḥ ||

Offering acceptable sacrifices, obtaining the wealth they solicit, presenting gratifying (oblations to thegods), for the sake of immortality enjoying person nal union, they (wife and husband) worship the gods.

आ शर्म पर्वतानां वृणीमहे नदीनाम् । आ विष्णोः सचाभुवः ॥

ā śarma parvatānāṃ vṛṇīmahe nadīnām | ā viṣṇoḥ sacābhuvaḥ ||

We solicit the happiness (afforded) by the mountains, the rivers, and Viṣṇu, associated (with thegods).

ऐतु पूषा रयिर्भगः स्वस्ति सर्वधातमः । उरुरध्वा स्वस्तये ॥

aitu pūṣā rayirbhagaḥ svasti sarvadhātamaḥ | ururadhvā svastaye ||

May the adorable Pūṣan, the possessor of opulence, the most benevolent patron to all, comeauspiciously; may a wide path (be open) for our prosperity.

अरमतिरनर्वणो विश्वो देवस्य मनसा । आदित्यानामनेह इत् ॥

aramatiranarvaṇo viśvo devasya manasā | ādityānāmaneha it ||

All men with (devout) minds are the unwearied (praisers) of the irresistible deity (Pūṣan), verily the(most) sinless of the Ādityas.

यथा नो मित्रो अर्यमा वरुणः सन्ति गोपाः । सुगा ऋतस्य पन्थाः ॥

yathā no mitro aryamā varuṇaḥ santi gopāḥ | sugā ṛtasya panthāḥ ||

Since Mitra, Aryaman and Varuṇa are our protectors, may the paths of the sacrifice be easily traversed(by them).

अग्निं वः पूर्व्यं गिरा देवमीऴे वसूनाम् । सपर्यन्तः पुरुप्रियं मित्रं न क्षेत्रसाधसम् ॥

agniṃ vaḥ pūrvyaṃ girā devamīḻe vasūnām | saparyantaḥ purupriyaṃ mitraṃ na kṣetrasādhasam ||

I worship the divine Agni, the preceder of you, (gods), with praise, (for the sake) of riches; theworshippers (cherish him), the bountiful perfector of the sacrifice, like a friend.

मक्षू देववतो रथः शूरो वा पृत्सु कासु चित् । देवानां य इन्मनो यजमान इयक्षत्यभीदयज्वनो भुवत् ॥

makṣū devavato rathaḥ śūro vā pṛtsu kāsu cit | devānāṃ ya inmano yajamāna iyakṣatyabhīdayajvano bhuvat ||

The chariot of the devout worshipper quickly (prevails), as the hero (prevails) in all combats whatever;the celebrator of the sacrifice, who desires to propitiate the mind of the gods, overcomes those who are nosacrificers.

न यजमान रिष्यसि न सुन्वान न देवयो । देवानां य इन्मनो यजमान इयक्षत्यभीदयज्वनो भुवत् ॥

na yajamāna riṣyasi na sunvāna na devayo | devānāṃ ya inmano yajamāna iyakṣatyabhīdayajvano bhuvat ||

Devoted to the gods, pouring out to them libations, you, worshipper, shall not perish; the celebrator ofthe sacrifice, who desires to propitiate the mind of the gods, overcomes those who are no sacrificers.

नकिष्टं कर्मणा नशन्न प्र योषन्न योषति । देवानां य इन्मनो यजमान इयक्षत्यभीदयज्वनो भुवत् ॥

nakiṣṭaṃ karmaṇā naśanna pra yoṣanna yoṣati | devānāṃ ya inmano yajamāna iyakṣatyabhīdayajvano bhuvat ||

No one obstructs him by his acts, he is never driven (from his station), he is never separated (from hisfamily); the celebrator of the sacrifice, who desires to propitiate the mind of the gods, overcomes those who areno sacrificers.

असदत्र सुवीर्यमुत त्यदाश्वश्व्यम् । देवानां य इन्मनो यजमान इयक्षत्यभीदयज्वनो भुवत् ॥

asadatra suvīryamuta tyadāśvaśvyam | devānāṃ ya inmano yajamāna iyakṣatyabhīdayajvano bhuvat ||

To him in this life is a valiant progeny, to him are swift herds of horses; the celebrator of the sacrifice,who desires to propitiate the mind of the gods, overcomes those who are no sacrificers.
