[rv-8-22] • 18 श्लोकाः

ओ त्यमह्व आ रथमद्या दंसिष्ठमूतये । यमश्विना सुहवा रुद्रवर्तनी आ सूर्यायै तस्थथुः ॥

o tyamahva ā rathamadyā daṃsiṣṭhamūtaye | yamaśvinā suhavā rudravartanī ā sūryāyai tasthathuḥ ||

I invoke to-day for our protection that splendid chariot, which, adorable Aśvins, advancing on the pathto battle, you ascended (to go to the wwedding) of Sūrya.

पूर्वायुषं सुहवं पुरुस्पृहं भुज्युं वाजेषु पूर्व्यम् । सचनावन्तं सुमतिभिः सोभरे विद्वेषसमनेहसम् ॥

pūrvāyuṣaṃ suhavaṃ puruspṛhaṃ bhujyuṃ vājeṣu pūrvyam | sacanāvantaṃ sumatibhiḥ sobhare vidveṣasamanehasam ||

Celebrate, Sobhari, with praises (that chariot), the benefactor of former (encomiasts), the worthilyinvoked, the desired of many, the preserver, the foremost in battles, the relied upon by all, the scatterer ofenemies, the exempt from ill.

इह त्या पुरुभूतमा देवा नमोभिरश्विना । अर्वाचीना स्ववसे करामहे गन्तारा दाशुषो गृहम् ॥

iha tyā purubhūtamā devā namobhiraśvinā | arvācīnā svavase karāmahe gantārā dāśuṣo gṛham ||

We incite by our adorations on this occasion the two divine Aśvins, the overcomers of foes, that theymay come down for our protection and proceed to the dwelling of the donor (of the offering).

युवो रथस्य परि चक्रमीयत ईर्मान्यद्वामिषण्यति । अस्माँ अच्छा सुमतिर्वां शुभस्पती आ धेनुरिव धावतु ॥

yuvo rathasya pari cakramīyata īrmānyadvāmiṣaṇyati | asmā~ acchā sumatirvāṃ śubhaspatī ā dhenuriva dhāvatu ||

One of the wheels of your car moves in every direction; the other, impellers of actions, remains withyou; may your favour, lords of rain, hasten towards us as a cow (to her calf)!

रथो यो वां त्रिवन्धुरो हिरण्याभीशुरश्विना । परि द्यावापृथिवी भूषति श्रुतस्तेन नासत्या गतम् ॥

ratho yo vāṃ trivandhuro hiraṇyābhīśuraśvinā | pari dyāvāpṛthivī bhūṣati śrutastena nāsatyā gatam ||

Your celebrated chariot, Aśvins, that is three-banked, and caparisoned with gold, graces heaven andearth; come with it, Nāsatyās.

दशस्यन्ता मनवे पूर्व्यं दिवि यवं वृकेण कर्षथः । ता वामद्य सुमतिभिः शुभस्पती अश्विना प्र स्तुवीमहि ॥

daśasyantā manave pūrvyaṃ divi yavaṃ vṛkeṇa karṣathaḥ | tā vāmadya sumatibhiḥ śubhaspatī aśvinā pra stuvīmahi ||

Bestowing upon Manu the ancient (rain) from the firmament, you enabled him to cultivate (the soil) withthe plural ugh (and reap) the barley; now therefore, Aśvins, lords of rain, we glorify you both with praises.

उप नो वाजिनीवसू यातमृतस्य पथिभिः । येभिस्तृक्षिं वृषणा त्रासदस्यवं महे क्षत्राय जिन्वथः ॥

upa no vājinīvasū yātamṛtasya pathibhiḥ | yebhistṛkṣiṃ vṛṣaṇā trāsadasyavaṃ mahe kṣatrāya jinvathaḥ ||

Rich in food, Aśvins, come to us by the paths of sacrifice, those by which showerers (of benefits), youwent to gratify Tṛkṣi, the son of Trasadasyu, with vast wealth.

अयं वामद्रिभिः सुतः सोमो नरा वृषण्वसू । आ यातं सोमपीतये पिबतं दाशुषो गृहे ॥

ayaṃ vāmadribhiḥ sutaḥ somo narā vṛṣaṇvasū | ā yātaṃ somapītaye pibataṃ dāśuṣo gṛhe ||

Leaders (of rites), affluent in rain, this Soma has been expressed by the (grinding) stones for you; cometo drink the Soma, drink it in the dwelling of the donor.

आ हि रुहतमश्विना रथे कोशे हिरण्यये वृषण्वसू । युञ्जाथां पीवरीरिषः ॥

ā hi ruhatamaśvinā rathe kośe hiraṇyaye vṛṣaṇvasū | yuñjāthāṃ pīvarīriṣaḥ ||

Aśvins, who are rich in rain, ascend your golden chariot, a storehouse (of weapons); bring to usfattening food.

याभिः पक्थमवथो याभिरध्रिगुं याभिर्बभ्रुं विजोषसम् । ताभिर्नो मक्षू तूयमश्विना गतं भिषज्यतं यदातुरम् ॥

yābhiḥ pakthamavatho yābhiradhriguṃ yābhirbabhruṃ vijoṣasam | tābhirno makṣū tūyamaśvinā gataṃ bhiṣajyataṃ yadāturam ||

With those protections with which you have defended Paktha, Adhrigu, and Babhru, when propitiatingyou, come to us, Aśvins, quickly; administer medicine to the sick.

यदध्रिगावो अध्रिगू इदा चिदह्नो अश्विना हवामहे । वयं गीर्भिर्विपन्यवः ॥

yadadhrigāvo adhrigū idā cidahno aśvinā havāmahe | vayaṃ gīrbhirvipanyavaḥ ||

At the tiem when hurrying, devout, we invoke you both speedily going to battle, at the dawn of day, withour hymns.

ताभिरा यातं वृषणोप मे हवं विश्वप्सुं विश्ववार्यम् । इषा मंहिष्ठा पुरुभूतमा नरा याभिः क्रिविं वावृधुस्ताभिरा गतम् ॥

tābhirā yātaṃ vṛṣaṇopa me havaṃ viśvapsuṃ viśvavāryam | iṣā maṃhiṣṭhā purubhūtamā narā yābhiḥ kriviṃ vāvṛdhustābhirā gatam ||

Then, showerers, come to my manifold all-propitiating invocation with those (protections), with which,leaders (of rites), you, who are gratified (by oblations), munificent (in gifts), and the overcomers of numerous(foes), gave augmentation to the well; with such (protections) come here.

ताविदा चिदहानां तावश्विना वन्दमान उप ब्रुवे । ता उ नमोभिरीमहे ॥

tāvidā cidahānāṃ tāvaśvinā vandamāna upa bruve | tā u namobhirīmahe ||

I address the Aśvins, glorifying them at break of day; we solicit them with oblations.

ताविद्दोषा ता उषसि शुभस्पती ता यामन्रुद्रवर्तनी । मा नो मर्ताय रिपवे वाजिनीवसू परो रुद्रावति ख्यतम् ॥

tāviddoṣā tā uṣasi śubhaspatī tā yāmanrudravartanī | mā no martāya ripave vājinīvasū paro rudrāvati khyatam ||

We adore those lords of water, leaders on the road of battle, in the evening, at dawn, and at mid-day;therefore, Rudras who are rich in food, give us not up hereafter to a mortal adversary; rudravartanī : yuddherodanaśilamārgau stūyamānamārgau vā].

आ सुग्म्याय सुग्म्यं प्राता रथेनाश्विना वा सक्षणी । हुवे पितेव सोभरी ॥

ā sugmyāya sugmyaṃ prātā rathenāśvinā vā sakṣaṇī | huve piteva sobharī ||

Adorable Aśvins, bring in your chariot at early dawn happiness to me, soliciting happiness; I, Sobhari,invoke you as (did my) father.

मनोजवसा वृषणा मदच्युता मक्षुंगमाभिरूतिभिः । आरात्ताच्चिद्भूतमस्मे अवसे पूर्वीभिः पुरुभोजसा ॥

manojavasā vṛṣaṇā madacyutā makṣuṃgamābhirūtibhiḥ | ārāttāccidbhūtamasme avase pūrvībhiḥ purubhojasā ||

(Aśvins), who are swift as thought, the showerers (of benefits), prostrators of the arrogant, the givers ofenjoyment to many, be ever near unto us, for our security, with many and prompt protections.

आ नो अश्वावदश्विना वर्तिर्यासिष्टं मधुपातमा नरा । गोमद्दस्रा हिरण्यवत् ॥

ā no aśvāvadaśvinā vartiryāsiṣṭaṃ madhupātamā narā | gomaddasrā hiraṇyavat ||

Aśvins, of goodly aspect, leaders (of rites), deep drinkers of the Soma, come to our dwelling aboundingwith horses, with cattle, with gold.

सुप्रावर्गं सुवीर्यं सुष्ठु वार्यमनाधृष्टं रक्षस्विना । अस्मिन्ना वामायाने वाजिनीवसू विश्वा वामानि धीमहि ॥

suprāvargaṃ suvīryaṃ suṣṭhu vāryamanādhṛṣṭaṃ rakṣasvinā | asminnā vāmāyāne vājinīvasū viśvā vāmāni dhīmahi ||

May we obtain from you (wealth) spontaneously bestowed, comprising excellent strength, such as isdesired by all, and unassailable by a powerful (foe); may we obtain from you who are rich in food, upon youcoming here, all good things.
