[rv-8-17] • 15 श्लोकाः

आ याहि सुषुमा हि त इन्द्र सोमं पिबा इमम् । एदं बर्हिः सदो मम ॥

ā yāhi suṣumā hi ta indra somaṃ pibā imam | edaṃ barhiḥ sado mama ||

Come, we express, Indra, for you, the Soma; drink it; sit down upon this my sacred grass.

आ त्वा ब्रह्मयुजा हरी वहतामिन्द्र केशिना । उप ब्रह्माणि नः शृणु ॥

ā tvā brahmayujā harī vahatāmindra keśinā | upa brahmāṇi naḥ śṛṇu ||

Let your long-maned horses, Indra, that are yoked by prayers, bring you here, anddo you hear ourprayers.

ब्रह्माणस्त्वा वयं युजा सोमपामिन्द्र सोमिनः । सुतावन्तो हवामहे ॥

brahmāṇastvā vayaṃ yujā somapāmindra sominaḥ | sutāvanto havāmahe ||

We brāhmaṇas, offerers of Soma, bearing the effused Soma, invoke with suitable (prayers), you thedrinker of the Soma.

आ नो याहि सुतावतोऽस्माकं सुष्टुतीरुप । पिबा सु शिप्रिन्नन्धसः ॥

ā no yāhi sutāvato'smākaṃ suṣṭutīrupa | pibā su śiprinnandhasaḥ ||

Come to us offering the libation, accept our earnest praises; drink, handsome-jawed, of the (sacrificial)beverage.

आ ते सिञ्चामि कुक्ष्योरनु गात्रा वि धावतु । गृभाय जिह्वया मधु ॥

ā te siñcāmi kukṣyoranu gātrā vi dhāvatu | gṛbhāya jihvayā madhu ||

I fill your belly (with the libation); let is spread throughout the limbs; take the honied Soma with yourtongue.

स्वादुष्टे अस्तु संसुदे मधुमान्तन्वे तव । सोमः शमस्तु ते हृदे ॥

svāduṣṭe astu saṃsude madhumāntanve tava | somaḥ śamastu te hṛde ||

May the sweet-flavoured Soma be grateful to you, who are munificent; (may it be grateful) to your bodymay it be exhilarating to your heart.

अयमु त्वा विचर्षणे जनीरिवाभि संवृतः । प्र सोम इन्द्र सर्पतु ॥

ayamu tvā vicarṣaṇe janīrivābhi saṃvṛtaḥ | pra soma indra sarpatu ||

May this Soma, invested (with milk), approach you, observant Indra, like a bride (clad in white apparel).

तुविग्रीवो वपोदरः सुबाहुरन्धसो मदे । इन्द्रो वृत्राणि जिघ्नते ॥

tuvigrīvo vapodaraḥ subāhurandhaso made | indro vṛtrāṇi jighnate ||

Long-necked, large-bellied, strong-armed Indra, in the exhilaration of the (sacrificial) food, destroys hisenemies.

इन्द्र प्रेहि पुरस्त्वं विश्वस्येशान ओजसा । वृत्राणि वृत्रहञ्जहि ॥

indra prehi purastvaṃ viśvasyeśāna ojasā | vṛtrāṇi vṛtrahañjahi ||

Indra, who by your strength are the lord over all, come to us, slayer of Vṛtra, subdue our foes.

दीर्घस्ते अस्त्वङ्कुशो येना वसु प्रयच्छसि । यजमानाय सुन्वते ॥

dīrghaste astvaṅkuśo yenā vasu prayacchasi | yajamānāya sunvate ||

Long be your goad, wherewith you bestow wealth upon the sacrificer offering libations.

अयं त इन्द्र सोमो निपूतो अधि बर्हिषि । एहीमस्य द्रवा पिब ॥

ayaṃ ta indra somo nipūto adhi barhiṣi | ehīmasya dravā piba ||

This Soma, purified (by filtering) through the sacred grass is for you, Indra, come to it, hasten, drink.

शाचिगो शाचिपूजनायं रणाय ते सुतः । आखण्डल प्र हूयसे ॥

śācigo śācipūjanāyaṃ raṇāya te sutaḥ | ākhaṇḍala pra hūyase ||

Renowned for radiance, renowned for adoration, this libation is for your gratification; destroyer of foes,you are earnestly invoked.

यस्ते शृङ्गवृषो नपात्प्रणपात्कुण्डपाय्यः । न्यस्मिन्दध्र आ मनः ॥

yaste śṛṅgavṛṣo napātpraṇapātkuṇḍapāyyaḥ | nyasmindadhra ā manaḥ ||

(Indra), who was the offspring of Śṛṅgavṛṣa, of whom the kuṇḍapāyya rite was the protector, (thesages) have fixed (of old) their minds upon this ceremony.

वास्तोष्पते ध्रुवा स्थूणांसत्रं सोम्यानाम् । द्रप्सो भेत्ता पुरां शश्वतीनामिन्द्रो मुनीनां सखा ॥

vāstoṣpate dhruvā sthūṇāṃsatraṃ somyānām | drapso bhettā purāṃ śaśvatīnāmindro munīnāṃ sakhā ||

Lord of dwellings, may the (roof) pillar be strong; may there be vigour of body for the offerers of libation;may Indra, the drinker (of the Soma), the destroyer of the numerous cities (of the asuras), ever be the friend ofthe Munis.

पृदाकुसानुर्यजतो गवेषण एकः सन्नभि भूयसः । भूर्णिमश्वं नयत्तुजा पुरो गृभेन्द्रं सोमस्य पीतये ॥

pṛdākusānuryajato gaveṣaṇa ekaḥ sannabhi bhūyasaḥ | bhūrṇimaśvaṃ nayattujā puro gṛbhendraṃ somasya pītaye ||

With head uplifted like a serpent, adorable, the recoverer of the cattle, Indra single, is superior tomultitudes; (the worshipper) brings Indra to drink the Soma by a rapid seizure, like a loaded horse (by a halter).
