[rv-8-15] • 13 श्लोकाः

तम्वभि प्र गायत पुरुहूतं पुरुष्टुतम् । इन्द्रं गीर्भिस्तविषमा विवासत ॥

tamvabhi pra gāyata puruhūtaṃ puruṣṭutam | indraṃ gīrbhistaviṣamā vivāsata ||

Glorify him the invoked of many, the praised of many; adore the powerful Indra with hymns.

यस्य द्विबर्हसो बृहत्सहो दाधार रोदसी । गिरीँरज्राँ अपः स्वर्वृषत्वना ॥

yasya dvibarhaso bṛhatsaho dādhāra rodasī | girī~rajrā~ apaḥ svarvṛṣatvanā ||

The vast strength of whom, powerful in both (regions), has sustained the heaven and earth, and by itsvigour (upheld) the swift clouds and flowing waters.

स राजसि पुरुष्टुतँ एको वृत्राणि जिघ्नसे । इन्द्र जैत्रा श्रवस्या च यन्तवे ॥

sa rājasi puruṣṭuta~ eko vṛtrāṇi jighnase | indra jaitrā śravasyā ca yantave ||

You, the praised of many, reign; you, single, have slain many enemies, in order to acquire the spoils ofvictory and abundant food.

तं ते मदं गृणीमसि वृषणं पृत्सु सासहिम् । उ लोककृत्नुमद्रिवो हरिश्रियम् ॥

taṃ te madaṃ gṛṇīmasi vṛṣaṇaṃ pṛtsu sāsahim | u lokakṛtnumadrivo hariśriyam ||

We celebrate, thunderer, your exhilaration, the showerer (of benefits), the overcomer (of foes) in battle,the maker of the world, the glorious with your steeds.

येन ज्योतींष्यायवे मनवे च विवेदिथ । मन्दानो अस्य बर्हिषो वि राजसि ॥

yena jyotīṃṣyāyave manave ca viveditha | mandāno asya barhiṣo vi rājasi ||

Whereby you have made the plural nets manifest to Ayu and to Manu, and rule rejoicing over this sacredrite.

तदद्या चित्त उक्थिनोऽनु ष्टुवन्ति पूर्वथा । वृषपत्नीरपो जया दिवेदिवे ॥

tadadyā citta ukthino'nu ṣṭuvanti pūrvathā | vṛṣapatnīrapo jayā divedive ||

The reciters of prayer celebrate that your (exhilaration) now as of old; do you daily hold in subjectionthe waters, the wives of the showerer.

तव त्यदिन्द्रियं बृहत्तव शुष्ममुत क्रतुम् । वज्रं शिशाति धिषणा वरेण्यम् ॥

tava tyadindriyaṃ bṛhattava śuṣmamuta kratum | vajraṃ śiśāti dhiṣaṇā vareṇyam ||

Praise sharpens your great energy, your strength, your acts, and your majestic thunderbolt.

तव द्यौरिन्द्र पौंस्यं पृथिवी वर्धति श्रवः । त्वामापः पर्वतासश्च हिन्विरे ॥

tava dyaurindra pauṃsyaṃ pṛthivī vardhati śravaḥ | tvāmāpaḥ parvatāsaśca hinvire ||

The heaven invigorates your manhood, Indra, the earth (spreads) your renown; the waters, themountains propitiate you.

त्वां विष्णुर्बृहन्क्षयो मित्रो गृणाति वरुणः । त्वां शर्धो मदत्यनु मारुतम् ॥

tvāṃ viṣṇurbṛhankṣayo mitro gṛṇāti varuṇaḥ | tvāṃ śardho madatyanu mārutam ||

Viṣṇu, the mighty giver of dwellings, praises you, and Mitra and Varuṇa; the company of the Marutsimitates you in exhilaration.

त्वं वृषा जनानां मंहिष्ठ इन्द्र जज्ञिषे । सत्रा विश्वा स्वपत्यानि दधिषे ॥

tvaṃ vṛṣā janānāṃ maṃhiṣṭha indra jajñiṣe | satrā viśvā svapatyāni dadhiṣe ||

You, Indra, who are the showerer, have been born the most bountiful of beings; you associate with youall good offspring.

सत्रा त्वं पुरुष्टुतँ एको वृत्राणि तोशसे । नान्य इन्द्रात्करणं भूय इन्वति ॥

satrā tvaṃ puruṣṭuta~ eko vṛtrāṇi tośase | nānya indrātkaraṇaṃ bhūya invati ||

(Indra), the praised of many, you alone destroy many mighty foes; no other Indra achieves such greatexploits.

यदिन्द्र मन्मशस्त्वा नाना हवन्त ऊतये । अस्माकेभिर्नृभिरत्रा स्वर्जय ॥

yadindra manmaśastvā nānā havanta ūtaye | asmākebhirnṛbhiratrā svarjaya ||

When (in the combat), Indra, they invoke you in many ways with praise for protection, then do you (soinvoked) by our leaders overcome all (our enemies).

अरं क्षयाय नो महे विश्वा रूपाण्याविशन् । इन्द्रं जैत्राय हर्षया शचीपतिम् ॥

araṃ kṣayāya no mahe viśvā rūpāṇyāviśan | indraṃ jaitrāya harṣayā śacīpatim ||

All the forms (of Indra) have sufficiently entered into our own spacious abode; gratify Indra the lord ofŚacī, (that he may give us) the spoil of victory.
