[rv-8-14] • 15 श्लोकाः

यदिन्द्राहं यथा त्वमीशीय वस्व एक इत् । स्तोता मे गोषखा स्यात् ॥

yadindrāhaṃ yathā tvamīśīya vasva eka it | stotā me goṣakhā syāt ||

If, Indra, I were, as you are, sole, lord over wealth, then should my eulogist be possessed of cattle.

शिक्षेयमस्मै दित्सेयं शचीपते मनीषिणे । यदहं गोपतिः स्याम् ॥

śikṣeyamasmai ditseyaṃ śacīpate manīṣiṇe | yadahaṃ gopatiḥ syām ||

Lord of might, I would give to that intelligent worshipper that which I should wish to give, if I were thepossessor of cattle.

धेनुष्ट इन्द्र सूनृता यजमानाय सुन्वते । गामश्वं पिप्युषी दुहे ॥

dhenuṣṭa indra sūnṛtā yajamānāya sunvate | gāmaśvaṃ pipyuṣī duhe ||

Your praise, Indra, is a cow to the worshipper offering the libations, it milks him in abundance cattle andhorses.

न ते वर्तास्ति राधस इन्द्र देवो न मर्त्यः । यद्दित्ससि स्तुतो मघम् ॥

na te vartāsti rādhasa indra devo na martyaḥ | yadditsasi stuto magham ||

Neither god nor man, Indra, is the obstructor of your affluence, (of) the wealth which you, when praised,design to bestow.

यज्ञ इन्द्रमवर्धयद्यद्भूमिं व्यवर्तयत् । चक्राण ओपशं दिवि ॥

yajña indramavardhayadyadbhūmiṃ vyavartayat | cakrāṇa opaśaṃ divi ||

Sacrifice has magnified Indra, so that he has supported the earth (with rain), making (the cloud)quiescent in the firmament.

वावृधानस्य ते वयं विश्वा धनानि जिग्युषः । ऊतिमिन्द्रा वृणीमहे ॥

vāvṛdhānasya te vayaṃ viśvā dhanāni jigyuṣaḥ | ūtimindrā vṛṇīmahe ||

We solicit, Indra, the protection of you, who are ever being magnified, the conqueror of all the riches (ofthe enemy).

व्यन्तरिक्षमतिरन्मदे सोमस्य रोचना । इन्द्रो यदभिनद्वलम् ॥

vyantarikṣamatiranmade somasya rocanā | indro yadabhinadvalam ||

In the exhilaration of the Soma, Indra has traversed the radiant firmament that he might pierce (theasura) Vala.

उद्गा आजदङ्गिरोभ्य आविष्कृण्वन्गुहा सतीः । अर्वाञ्चं नुनुदे वलम् ॥

udgā ājadaṅgirobhya āviṣkṛṇvanguhā satīḥ | arvāñcaṃ nunude valam ||

He liberated the cows for the aṅgirasas, making manifest those that have been hidden in the cave,hurling Vala headlong down.

इन्द्रेण रोचना दिवो दृऴ्हानि दृंहितानि च । स्थिराणि न पराणुदे ॥

indreṇa rocanā divo dṛḻhāni dṛṃhitāni ca | sthirāṇi na parāṇude ||

By Indra the constellations were made stable and firm and stationary, so that they could not be movedby any.

अपामूर्मिर्मदन्निव स्तोम इन्द्राजिरायते । वि ते मदा अराजिषुः ॥

apāmūrmirmadanniva stoma indrājirāyate | vi te madā arājiṣuḥ ||

Your praise, Indra, mounts aloft like the exulting wave of the waters, your exhilarations have beenmanifested.

त्वं हि स्तोमवर्धन इन्द्रास्युक्थवर्धनः । स्तोतॄणामुत भद्रकृत् ॥

tvaṃ hi stomavardhana indrāsyukthavardhanaḥ | stotṝṇāmuta bhadrakṛt ||

You, Indra, are to be magnified by praise, you are to be magnified by prayer; you are the benefactor ofthose who praise you.

इन्द्रमित्केशिना हरी सोमपेयाय वक्षतः । उप यज्ञं सुराधसम् ॥

indramitkeśinā harī somapeyāya vakṣataḥ | upa yajñaṃ surādhasam ||

Let the long-maned horses bring the wealth-bestowing Indra to the sacrifice to drink the Soma.

अपां फेनेन नमुचेः शिर इन्द्रोदवर्तयः । विश्वा यदजयः स्पृधः ॥

apāṃ phenena namuceḥ śira indrodavartayaḥ | viśvā yadajayaḥ spṛdhaḥ ||

You have struck off, Indra, the head of Namuci with the foam of the waters, when you had subdued allyour enemies.

मायाभिरुत्सिसृप्सत इन्द्र द्यामारुरुक्षतः । अव दस्यूँरधूनुथाः ॥

māyābhirutsisṛpsata indra dyāmārurukṣataḥ | ava dasyū~radhūnuthāḥ ||

You have hurled down, Indra, the Dasyus, gliding upwards by their devices and ascending to heaven.

असुन्वामिन्द्र संसदं विषूचीं व्यनाशयः । सोमपा उत्तरो भवन् ॥

asunvāmindra saṃsadaṃ viṣūcīṃ vyanāśayaḥ | somapā uttaro bhavan ||

You, Indra, the most excellent drinker of the Soma, destroy the adverse assembly that offers nolibations.
