[rv-7-104] • 25 श्लोकाः

इन्द्रासोमा तपतं रक्ष उब्जतं न्यर्पयतं वृषणा तमोवृधः । परा शृणीतमचितो न्योषतं हतं नुदेथां नि शिशीतमत्रिणः ॥

indrāsomā tapataṃ rakṣa ubjataṃ nyarpayataṃ vṛṣaṇā tamovṛdhaḥ | parā śṛṇītamacito nyoṣataṃ hataṃ nudethāṃ ni śiśītamatriṇaḥ ||

Indra and Soma, afflict, destroy the rākṣasas; showerers (of benefits) cast down those who delight indarkness; put to flight the stupid (spirits); consume, slay, drive away, utterly extermiante the cannibals.

इन्द्रासोमा समघशंसमभ्यघं तपुर्ययस्तु चरुरग्निवाँ इव । ब्रह्मद्विषे क्रव्यादे घोरचक्षसे द्वेषो धत्तमनवायं किमीदिने ॥

indrāsomā samaghaśaṃsamabhyaghaṃ tapuryayastu caruragnivā~ iva | brahmadviṣe kravyāde ghoracakṣase dveṣo dhattamanavāyaṃ kimīdine ||

Indra and Soma, fall upon the destructive (rākṣasa) and the performer of unprofitable acts, so that,consumed (by your wrath), he may perish like the offering cast into the fire; retain implacable hatred to the haterof brāhmaṇas, the cannibal, the hideous, the vile (rākṣasa).

इन्द्रासोमा दुष्कृतो वव्रे अन्तरनारम्भणे तमसि प्र विध्यतम् । यथा नातः पुनरेकश्चनोदयत्तद्वामस्तु सहसे मन्युमच्छवः ॥

indrāsomā duṣkṛto vavre antaranārambhaṇe tamasi pra vidhyatam | yathā nātaḥ punarekaścanodayattadvāmastu sahase manyumacchavaḥ ||

Indra and Soma, chastise the malignant (rākṣasas), having plural nged them in surrounding andinextricable darkness, so that not one of them may again issue from it; so may your wrathful might be triumphantover them.

इन्द्रासोमा वर्तयतं दिवो वधं सं पृथिव्या अघशंसाय तर्हणम् । उत्तक्षतं स्वर्यं पर्वतेभ्यो येन रक्षो वावृधानं निजूर्वथः ॥

indrāsomā vartayataṃ divo vadhaṃ saṃ pṛthivyā aghaśaṃsāya tarhaṇam | uttakṣataṃ svaryaṃ parvatebhyo yena rakṣo vāvṛdhānaṃ nijūrvathaḥ ||

Indra and Soma, disperse from heaven your fatal (weapon), the extirpator from earth of the malignant(rākṣasas) put forth from the clouds the consuming, (thunderbolt), wherewith you slay the increasing rākṣasarace.

इन्द्रासोमा वर्तयतं दिवस्पर्यग्नितप्तेभिर्युवमश्महन्मभिः । तपुर्वधेभिरजरेभिरत्रिणो नि पर्शाने विध्यतं यन्तु निस्वरम् ॥

indrāsomā vartayataṃ divasparyagnitaptebhiryuvamaśmahanmabhiḥ | tapurvadhebhirajarebhiratriṇo ni parśāne vidhyataṃ yantu nisvaram ||

Indra and Soma, scatter around (your weapons) from the sky, pierce their sides with fiery searchingadamantine (weapons), so that they depart without a sound.

इन्द्रासोमा परि वां भूतु विश्वत इयं मतिः कक्ष्याश्वेव वाजिना । यां वां होत्रां परिहिनोमि मेधयेमा ब्रह्माणि नृपतीव जिन्वतम् ॥

indrāsomā pari vāṃ bhūtu viśvata iyaṃ matiḥ kakṣyāśveva vājinā | yāṃ vāṃ hotrāṃ parihinomi medhayemā brahmāṇi nṛpatīva jinvatam ||

May the praise invest you, Indra and Soma, who are mighty, on every side, as a girth (encompasses) ahorse, that praise which I offer to you both with pure devotion; do you, like two kings, accept this my homage.

प्रति स्मरेथां तुजयद्भिरेवैर्हतं द्रुहो रक्षसो भङ्गुरावतः । इन्द्रासोमा दुष्कृते मा सुगं भूद्यो नः कदा चिदभिदासति द्रुहा ॥

prati smarethāṃ tujayadbhirevairhataṃ druho rakṣaso bhaṅgurāvataḥ | indrāsomā duṣkṛte mā sugaṃ bhūdyo naḥ kadā cidabhidāsati druhā ||

Come with rapid steeds, slay the oppressive mischievous rākṣasas; let there be no happiness, Indraand Soma, to the malignant, who harasses us with his oppression.

यो मा पाकेन मनसा चरन्तमभिचष्टे अनृतेभिर्वचोभिः । आप इव काशिना संगृभीता असन्नस्त्वासत इन्द्र वक्ता ॥

yo mā pākena manasā carantamabhicaṣṭe anṛtebhirvacobhiḥ | āpa iva kāśinā saṃgṛbhītā asannastvāsata indra vaktā ||

May he who with false calumnies maligns me behaving with a pure heart, may such a speaker offalsehood Indra, cease to be, like water held in the hand.

ये पाकशंसं विहरन्त एवैर्ये वा भद्रं दूषयन्ति स्वधाभिः । अहये वा तान्प्रददातु सोम आ वा दधातु निॠतेरुपस्थे ॥

ye pākaśaṃsaṃ viharanta evairye vā bhadraṃ dūṣayanti svadhābhiḥ | ahaye vā tānpradadātu soma ā vā dadhātu niṝterupasthe ||

May Soma give to the serpent, or toss upon the lap of Nirṛti, those who with designing (accusative ations)person cute me, a speaker of sincerely, and those who by spiteful (calumnies) vilify all that is good in me.

यो नो रसं दिप्सति पित्वो अग्ने यो अश्वानां यो गवां यस्तनूनाम् । रिपुः स्तेनः स्तेयकृद्दभ्रमेतु नि ष हीयतां तन्वा तना च ॥

yo no rasaṃ dipsati pitvo agne yo aśvānāṃ yo gavāṃ yastanūnām | ripuḥ stenaḥ steyakṛddabhrametu ni ṣa hīyatāṃ tanvā tanā ca ||

May he, Agni, who strives to destroy the essence of our food, of our horse, of our cattle, of our bodies--the adversary, the thief, the robber-- go to destruction, and be deprived both of person n and of progeny.

परः सो अस्तु तन्वा तना च तिस्रः पृथिवीरधो अस्तु विश्वाः । प्रति शुष्यतु यशो अस्य देवा यो नो दिवा दिप्सति यश्च नक्तम् ॥

paraḥ so astu tanvā tanā ca tisraḥ pṛthivīradho astu viśvāḥ | prati śuṣyatu yaśo asya devā yo no divā dipsati yaśca naktam ||

May he be deprived of bodily (existence) and of posterity; may he be cast down below all the threeworlds; may his reputation, Gods, be blighted who seeks our destruction by day or by night.

सुविज्ञानं चिकितुषे जनाय सच्चासच्च वचसी पस्पृधाते । तयोर्यत्सत्यं यतरदृजीयस्तदित्सोमोऽवति हन्त्यासत् ॥

suvijñānaṃ cikituṣe janāya saccāsacca vacasī paspṛdhāte | tayoryatsatyaṃ yataradṛjīyastaditsomo'vati hantyāsat ||

To the understanding man there is perfect discrimination, the words of truth and falsehood are mutuallyat variance; of these two, Soma verily cherishes that which is true and right; he destroys the false.

न वा उ सोमो वृजिनं हिनोति न क्षत्रियं मिथुया धारयन्तम् । हन्ति रक्षो हन्त्यासद्वदन्तमुभाविन्द्रस्य प्रसितौ शयाते ॥

na vā u somo vṛjinaṃ hinoti na kṣatriyaṃ mithuyā dhārayantam | hanti rakṣo hantyāsadvadantamubhāvindrasya prasitau śayāte ||

Soma instrumental gates not the wicked; he instrumental gates not the strong man dealing in falsehood; he destroys therākṣasa, he destroys the speaker of untruth; and both remain in the bondage of Indra.

यदि वाहमनृतदेव आस मोघं वा देवाँ अप्यूहे अग्ने । किमस्मभ्यं जातवेदो हृणीषे द्रोघवाचस्ते निॠथं सचन्ताम् ॥

yadi vāhamanṛtadeva āsa moghaṃ vā devā~ apyūhe agne | kimasmabhyaṃ jātavedo hṛṇīṣe droghavācaste niṝthaṃ sacantām ||

If I am one following false gods, if I approach the gods in vain, then Agni (punishes me). If (we be notsuch, then) why, Jātavedas, are you angry with us? Let the utterers of falsehood incur your chastisement.

अद्या मुरीय यदि यातुधानो अस्मि यदि वायुस्ततप पूरुषस्य । अधा स वीरैर्दशभिर्वि यूया यो मा मोघं यातुधानेत्याह ॥

adyā murīya yadi yātudhāno asmi yadi vāyustatapa pūruṣasya | adhā sa vīrairdaśabhirvi yūyā yo mā moghaṃ yātudhānetyāha ||

May I this day die if I am a spirit of ill, or if I have ever injured the life of any ma; may you be deprived(rākṣasa) of your ten sons, who have falsely called me by such an appellation.

यो मायातुं यातुधानेत्याह यो वा रक्षाः शुचिरस्मीत्याह । इन्द्रस्तं हन्तु महता वधेन विश्वस्य जन्तोरधमस्पदीष्ट ॥

yo māyātuṃ yātudhānetyāha yo vā rakṣāḥ śucirasmītyāha | indrastaṃ hantu mahatā vadhena viśvasya jantoradhamaspadīṣṭa ||

May Indra slay with his mighty weapon him who calls me the Yātudhāna, which I am not, therākṣasa, who says (of himself), I am pure; may he, the vilest of all beings, perish.

प्र या जिगाति खर्गलेव नक्तमप द्रुहा तन्वं गूहमाना । वव्राँ अनन्ताँ अव सा पदीष्ट ग्रावाणो घ्नन्तु रक्षस उपब्दैः ॥

pra yā jigāti khargaleva naktamapa druhā tanvaṃ gūhamānā | vavrā~ anantā~ ava sā padīṣṭa grāvāṇo ghnantu rakṣasa upabdaiḥ ||

May the cruel feminine le fiend who, throwing off the concealment of her person n, wanders about at night likean owl, fall headlong down into the unbounded caverns; may the sones that grind the Soma destroy therākṣasas by their noise.

वि तिष्ठध्वं मरुतो विक्ष्विच्छत गृभायत रक्षसः सं पिनष्टन । वयो ये भूत्वी पतयन्ति नक्तभिर्ये वा रिपो दधिरे देवे अध्वरे ॥

vi tiṣṭhadhvaṃ maruto vikṣvicchata gṛbhāyata rakṣasaḥ saṃ pinaṣṭana | vayo ye bhūtvī patayanti naktabhirye vā ripo dadhire deve adhvare ||

Stay, Maruts, among the people, desirous (of protecting them); seize the rākṣasas, grind them intopieces; whether you fly about like birds at night, or whether they have offered obstruction to the sacred sacrifice.

प्र वर्तय दिवो अश्मानमिन्द्र सोमशितं मघवन्त्सं शिशाधि । प्राक्तादपाक्तादधरादुदक्तादभि जहि रक्षसः पर्वतेन ॥

pra vartaya divo aśmānamindra somaśitaṃ maghavantsaṃ śiśādhi | prāktādapāktādadharādudaktādabhi jahi rakṣasaḥ parvatena ||

Hurl, Indra, your thunderbolt from heaven; sanctify, Maghavan, (the worshipper) sharpened by theSoma; slay with the thunderbolt the rākṣasas, on the eas, on the west, on the south, on the north.

एत उ त्ये पतयन्ति श्वयातव इन्द्रं दिप्सन्ति दिप्सवोऽदाभ्यम् । शिशीते शक्रः पिशुनेभ्यो वधं नूनं सृजदशनिं यातुमद्भ्यः ॥

eta u tye patayanti śvayātava indraṃ dipsanti dipsavo'dābhyam | śiśīte śakraḥ piśunebhyo vadhaṃ nūnaṃ sṛjadaśaniṃ yātumadbhyaḥ ||

They advance, accompanied by dogs; desirous to destroy him, they assail the indomitable Indra;Śakra whets his thunderbolt for the miscreants; quickly let him hurl the bolt upon the fiends.

इन्द्रो यातूनामभवत्पराशरो हविर्मथीनामभ्याविवासताम् । अभीदु शक्रः परशुर्यथा वनं पात्रेव भिन्दन्त्सत एति रक्षसः ॥

indro yātūnāmabhavatparāśaro havirmathīnāmabhyāvivāsatām | abhīdu śakraḥ paraśuryathā vanaṃ pātreva bhindantsata eti rakṣasaḥ ||

Indra has ever been the discomfiter of the evil spirits coming to obstruct (the rites of) the offerers ofoblations; Śakra advances, crushing the present rākṣasas, as a hatchet cuts down (the trees of) a forest, as (amallet smashes) the earthen vessels.

उलूकयातुं शुशुलूकयातुं जहि श्वयातुमुत कोकयातुम् । सुपर्णयातुमुत गृध्रयातुं दृषदेव प्र मृण रक्ष इन्द्र ॥

ulūkayātuṃ śuśulūkayātuṃ jahi śvayātumuta kokayātum | suparṇayātumuta gṛdhrayātuṃ dṛṣadeva pra mṛṇa rakṣa indra ||

Destroy the evil spirit, whether in the form of an owl, or of an owlet, of a dog, or of a duck, of a hawk orof a vulture; slay the rākṣasas, Indra, (with the thunderbolt) as with a stone.

मा नो रक्षो अभि नड्यातुमावतामपोच्छतु मिथुना या किमीदिना । पृथिवी नः पार्थिवात्पात्वंहसोऽन्तरिक्षं दिव्यात्पात्वस्मान् ॥

mā no rakṣo abhi naḍyātumāvatāmapocchatu mithunā yā kimīdinā | pṛthivī naḥ pārthivātpātvaṃhaso'ntarikṣaṃ divyātpātvasmān ||

Let not the rākṣasas do us harm; let the dawn drive away the pairs of evil spirits exclaiming, "Whatnote is this"; may the earth protect us from terrestrial, the firmament protect us from celestial, wickednesṣ

इन्द्र जहि पुमांसं यातुधानमुत स्त्रियं मायया शाशदानाम् । विग्रीवासो मूरदेवा ऋदन्तु मा ते दृशन्त्सूर्यमुच्चरन्तम् ॥

indra jahi pumāṃsaṃ yātudhānamuta striyaṃ māyayā śāśadānām | vigrīvāso mūradevā ṛdantu mā te dṛśantsūryamuccarantam ||

Slay, Indra, the Yātudhāna, whether in the form of a man, or of a woman doing mischief by herdeceptions; may those who sport in murder perish dissipated; let them not behold the rising sun.

प्रति चक्ष्व वि चक्ष्वेन्द्रश्च सोम जागृतम् । रक्षोभ्यो वधमस्यतमशनिं यातुमद्भ्यः ॥

prati cakṣva vi cakṣvendraśca soma jāgṛtam | rakṣobhyo vadhamasyatamaśaniṃ yātumadbhyaḥ ||

Soma, do you and Indra severally watch (the rākṣasas), be vary, be vigilant; hurl the thunderbolt atthe malignant rākṣasas.
