[rv-6-6] • 7 श्लोकाः

प्र नव्यसा सहसः सूनुमच्छा यज्ञेन गातुमव इच्छमानः । वृश्चद्वनं कृष्णयामं रुशन्तं वीती होतारं दिव्यं जिगाति ॥

pra navyasā sahasaḥ sūnumacchā yajñena gātumava icchamānaḥ | vṛścadvanaṃ kṛṣṇayāmaṃ ruśantaṃ vītī hotāraṃ divyaṃ jigāti ||

He who is desirous of food has recourse with a new sacrifice, approachable son of strength (Agni), to you the consumer of forests, the dark-pathed, the bright shining, the ministrant (to the gods) of (sacrificial) food, the divine.

स श्वितानस्तन्यतू रोचनस्था अजरेभिर्नानदद्भिर्यविष्ठः । यः पावकः पुरुतमः पुरूणि पृथून्यग्निरनुयाति भर्वन् ॥

sa śvitānastanyatū rocanasthā ajarebhirnānadadbhiryaviṣṭhaḥ | yaḥ pāvakaḥ purutamaḥ purūṇi pṛthūnyagniranuyāti bharvan ||

(You who are) white-hued, vociferous, abiding in the firmament, (associated) with the imperishable, resounding (winds), the youngest (of the gods), Agni, who, purifying and most vast, proceeds, feeding upon numerous and substantial (forests).

वि ते विष्वग्वातजूतासो अग्ने भामासः शुचे शुचयश्चरन्ति । तुविम्रक्षासो दिव्या नवग्वा वना वनन्ति धृषता रुजन्तः ॥

vi te viṣvagvātajūtāso agne bhāmāsaḥ śuce śucayaścaranti | tuvimrakṣāso divyā navagvā vanā vananti dhṛṣatā rujantaḥ ||

Pure Agni, your bright flames, fanned by the wind, spread wide in every diection, consuming abundant (fuel); divine, fresh-rising, they plural y upon the woods, enveloping them in lustre.

ये ते शुक्रासः शुचयः शुचिष्मः क्षां वपन्ति विषितासो अश्वाः । अध भ्रमस्त उर्विया वि भाति यातयमानो अधि सानु पृश्नेः ॥

ye te śukrāsaḥ śucayaḥ śuciṣmaḥ kṣāṃ vapanti viṣitāso aśvāḥ | adha bhramasta urviyā vi bhāti yātayamāno adhi sānu pṛśneḥ ||

Resplendent Agni, your bright rays, horses let loose (from the rein), shear the earth; your (band of flame), mounting above the high-lands of the many-tinted (earth), blazes fiercely.

अध जिह्वा पापतीति प्र वृष्णो गोषुयुधो नाशनिः सृजाना । शूरस्येव प्रसितिः क्षातिरग्नेर्दुर्वर्तुर्भीमो दयते वनानि ॥

adha jihvā pāpatīti pra vṛṣṇo goṣuyudho nāśaniḥ sṛjānā | śūrasyeva prasitiḥ kṣātiragnerdurvarturbhīmo dayate vanāni ||

The flame of the showerer (Agni), repeatedly descends like the hurled thunderbolt of the rescuer of the cattle; like the prowess of a hero is the destroying (energy) of Agni; irresistible and fearful, he consumes the forests.

आ भानुना पार्थिवानि ज्रयांसि महस्तोदस्य धृषता ततन्थ । स बाधस्वाप भया सहोभिः स्पृधो वनुष्यन्वनुषो नि जूर्व ॥

ā bhānunā pārthivāni jrayāṃsi mahastodasya dhṛṣatā tatantha | sa bādhasvāpa bhayā sahobhiḥ spṛdho vanuṣyanvanuṣo ni jūrva ||

You overspread the accessible plural ces of the earth with light by the energy of you powerful, exciting (influence); do you disperse all perils, and, baffing (our) adversaries by your mighty (powers), destroy (our) foes.

स चित्र चित्रं चितयन्तमस्मे चित्रक्षत्र चित्रतमं वयोधाम् । चन्द्रं रयिं पुरुवीरं बृहन्तं चन्द्र चन्द्राभिर्गृणते युवस्व ॥

sa citra citraṃ citayantamasme citrakṣatra citratamaṃ vayodhām | candraṃ rayiṃ puruvīraṃ bṛhantaṃ candra candrābhirgṛṇate yuvasva ||

Wonderful Agni, of wonderful strength, bestower of delight, grant to us, and to him who praises you with gratifying (praises), wonderful, most wonderful riches, conferring fame, supplying food, comprehending male descendants,d electable and infinite.
