[rv-6-52] • 17 श्लोकाः

न तद्दिवा न पृथिव्यानु मन्ये न यज्ञेन नोत शमीभिराभिः । उब्जन्तु तं सुभ्वः पर्वतासो नि हीयतामतियाजस्य यष्टा ॥

na taddivā na pṛthivyānu manye na yajñena nota śamībhirābhiḥ | ubjantu taṃ subhvaḥ parvatāso ni hīyatāmatiyājasya yaṣṭā ||

I do not regard it as worthy (of the gods) of heaven, or (those) of earth, as (fit to be compared) with the sacrifice (I offer) or with these (our) sacred rites; let, then, the mighty mountains overhelm him; let the employer of Atiyāja be ever degraded.

अति वा यो मरुतो मन्यते नो ब्रह्म वा यः क्रियमाणं निनित्सात् । तपूंषि तस्मै वृजिनानि सन्तु ब्रह्मद्विषमभि तं शोचतु द्यौः ॥

ati vā yo maruto manyate no brahma vā yaḥ kriyamāṇaṃ ninitsāt | tapūṃṣi tasmai vṛjināni santu brahmadviṣamabhi taṃ śocatu dyauḥ ||

Maruts, may the energies of that man be enfeebled; may heaven consume that impious adversary who thinks himself superior to us, and who pretends to deprecate the worship that we offer.

किमङ्ग त्वा ब्रह्मणः सोम गोपां किमङ्ग त्वाहुरभिशस्तिपां नः । किमङ्ग नः पश्यसि निद्यमानान्ब्रह्मद्विषे तपुषिं हेतिमस्य ॥

kimaṅga tvā brahmaṇaḥ soma gopāṃ kimaṅga tvāhurabhiśastipāṃ naḥ | kimaṅga naḥ paśyasi nidyamānānbrahmadviṣe tapuṣiṃ hetimasya ||

Why have they called you, Soma, the protector of pious prayer? Why (have they called you) our defender against calumny? Why do you behold us subjected to reproach? Cast your destroying weapon upon the adversary of the brahman.

अवन्तु मामुषसो जायमाना अवन्तु मा सिन्धवः पिन्वमानाः । अवन्तु मा पर्वतासो ध्रुवासोऽवन्तु मा पितरो देवहूतौ ॥

avantu māmuṣaso jāyamānā avantu mā sindhavaḥ pinvamānāḥ | avantu mā parvatāso dhruvāso'vantu mā pitaro devahūtau ||

May the opening dawns preserve me; may the swelling rivers preserve me; may the firm-set mountains preserve me; may the progenitors (present) at the invocation of the gods preserve me.

विश्वदानीं सुमनसः स्याम पश्येम नु सूर्यमुच्चरन्तम् । तथा करद्वसुपतिर्वसूनां देवाँ ओहानोऽवसागमिष्ठः ॥

viśvadānīṃ sumanasaḥ syāma paśyema nu sūryamuccarantam | tathā karadvasupatirvasūnāṃ devā~ ohāno'vasāgamiṣṭhaḥ ||

May we at all seasons be possessed of sound minds; may we ever behold the rising sun; such may the affluent lord of riches, (Agni), render us, ever most ready to come (at our invocation), charged with our oblation to the gods.

इन्द्रो नेदिष्ठमवसागमिष्ठः सरस्वती सिन्धुभिः पिन्वमाना । पर्जन्यो न ओषधीभिर्मयोभुरग्निः सुशंसः सुहवः पितेव ॥

indro nediṣṭhamavasāgamiṣṭhaḥ sarasvatī sindhubhiḥ pinvamānā | parjanyo na oṣadhībhirmayobhuragniḥ suśaṃsaḥ suhavaḥ piteva ||

May Indra be most prompt to come nigh for our protection, and Sarasvatī dwelling with (tributary) rivers; may Parjanya, with the plural nts, be a giver of happiness; and may Agni, worthily praised and earnestly invoked, (be to us) like a father.

विश्वे देवास आ गत शृणुता म इमं हवम् । एदं बर्हिर्नि षीदत ॥

viśve devāsa ā gata śṛṇutā ma imaṃ havam | edaṃ barhirni ṣīdata ||

Come, universal gods, hear this my invocationl; sit down upon this sacred grass.

यो वो देवा घृतस्नुना हव्येन प्रतिभूषति । तं विश्व उप गच्छथ ॥

yo vo devā ghṛtasnunā havyena pratibhūṣati | taṃ viśva upa gacchatha ||

Come, gods, to him who honours you with the butter drippling oblation.

उप नः सूनवो गिरः शृण्वन्त्वमृतस्य ये । सुमृऴीका भवन्तु नः ॥

upa naḥ sūnavo giraḥ śṛṇvantvamṛtasya ye | sumṛḻīkā bhavantu naḥ ||

May the sons of the immortal hear our praises, and be to us the givers of felicity.

विश्वे देवा ऋतावृध ऋतुभिर्हवनश्रुतः । जुषन्तां युज्यं पयः ॥

viśve devā ṛtāvṛdha ṛtubhirhavanaśrutaḥ | juṣantāṃ yujyaṃ payaḥ ||

Universal gods, augmenters of sacrifice, listening to praises (uttered) at due seasons, accept your appropriate milk-offering.

स्तोत्रमिन्द्रो मरुद्गणस्त्वष्टृमान्मित्रो अर्यमा । इमा हव्या जुषन्त नः ॥

stotramindro marudgaṇastvaṣṭṛmānmitro aryamā | imā havyā juṣanta naḥ ||

Indra, with the company of the Maruts, Mitra, with Tvaṣṭā and Aryaman, accept our praise and these our oblations.

इमं नो अग्ने अध्वरं होतर्वयुनशो यज । चिकित्वान्दैव्यं जनम् ॥

imaṃ no agne adhvaraṃ hotarvayunaśo yaja | cikitvāndaivyaṃ janam ||

Agni, invoker of the gods, cognizant (which of) the divine assembly (is he honoured), offer this our sacrifice according to the proper order.

विश्वे देवाः शृणुतेमं हवं मे ये अन्तरिक्षे य उप द्यवि ष्ठ । ये अग्निजिह्वा उत वा यजत्रा आसद्यास्मिन्बर्हिषि मादयध्वम् ॥

viśve devāḥ śṛṇutemaṃ havaṃ me ye antarikṣe ya upa dyavi ṣṭha | ye agnijihvā uta vā yajatrā āsadyāsminbarhiṣi mādayadhvam ||

Universal gods, hear this my invocation, whether you be in the firmament or in the heaven; you who (receive oblations) by the tongue of Agni, or are to be (otherwise) worshipped; seated on this sacred grass, be exhilarated (by the Soma).

विश्वे देवा मम शृण्वन्तु यज्ञिया उभे रोदसी अपां नपाच्च मन्म । मा वो वचांसि परिचक्ष्याणि वोचं सुम्नेष्विद्वो अन्तमा मदेम ॥

viśve devā mama śṛṇvantu yajñiyā ubhe rodasī apāṃ napācca manma | mā vo vacāṃsi paricakṣyāṇi vocaṃ sumneṣvidvo antamā madema ||

May the adorable, universal deities, and both heaven and earth, and the grandson, of the waters, hear my praise; let me not utter words to be disregarded, but let us, (brought) most nigh unto you, rejoice in the happiness (you bestow).

ये के च ज्मा महिनो अहिमाया दिवो जज्ञिरे अपां सधस्थे । ते अस्मभ्यमिषये विश्वमायुः क्षप उस्रा वरिवस्यन्तु देवाः ॥

ye ke ca jmā mahino ahimāyā divo jajñire apāṃ sadhasthe | te asmabhyamiṣaye viśvamāyuḥ kṣapa usrā varivasyantu devāḥ ||

May those mighty deities, having power to destroy, whether they have been manifested upon earth or in heaven, or in the abode of the waters, bestow upon us and our posterity abundant sustenance both by night and day.

अग्नीपर्जन्याववतं धियं मेऽस्मिन्हवे सुहवा सुष्टुतिं नः । इऴामन्यो जनयद्गर्भमन्यः प्रजावतीरिष आ धत्तमस्मे ॥

agnīparjanyāvavataṃ dhiyaṃ me'sminhave suhavā suṣṭutiṃ naḥ | iḻāmanyo janayadgarbhamanyaḥ prajāvatīriṣa ā dhattamasme ||

Agni and Parjanya, prosper my pious acts; (accept), you who are reverently invoked, our praise at this sacrifice; one of you genitive rates food, the other posterity; grant us, therefore, food productive of descendants.

स्तीर्णे बर्हिषि समिधाने अग्नौ सूक्तेन महा नमसा विवासे । अस्मिन्नो अद्य विदथे यजत्रा विश्वे देवा हविषि मादयध्वम् ॥

stīrṇe barhiṣi samidhāne agnau sūktena mahā namasā vivāse | asminno adya vidathe yajatrā viśve devā haviṣi mādayadhvam ||

When the sacred grass is strewn, when the fire is kindled, and when I worship (you) with a hymn, and with profound veneration, then, adorable universal gods, rejoice in the oblation (offered) today at this our sacrifice.
