[rv-6-51] • 16 श्लोकाः

उदु त्यच्चक्षुर्महि मित्रयोराँ एति प्रियं वरुणयोरदब्धम् । ऋतस्य शुचि दर्शतमनीकं रुक्मो न दिव उदिता व्यद्यौत् ॥

udu tyaccakṣurmahi mitrayorā~ eti priyaṃ varuṇayoradabdham | ṛtasya śuci darśatamanīkaṃ rukmo na diva uditā vyadyaut ||

The expansive, illuminating, unobstructive, pure, and beautiful radiance of the sun, grateful to Mitra and Varuṇa, having risen, shines like the ornament of the sky.

वेद यस्त्रीणि विदथान्येषां देवानां जन्म सनुतरा च विप्रः । ऋजु मर्तेषु वृजिना च पश्यन्नभि चष्टे सूरो अर्य एवान् ॥

veda yastrīṇi vidathānyeṣāṃ devānāṃ janma sanutarā ca vipraḥ | ṛju marteṣu vṛjinā ca paśyannabhi caṣṭe sūro arya evān ||

He who knows the three cognizable (worlds); the sage (who knows) the mysterious birth of the divinities (abiding in them); he who is beholding the good and evil acts of mortals, he, the sun, the lord, makes manifest their intentions.

स्तुष उ वो मह ऋतस्य गोपानदितिं मित्रं वरुणं सुजातान् । अर्यमणं भगमदब्धधीतीनच्छा वोचे सधन्यः पावकान् ॥

stuṣa u vo maha ṛtasya gopānaditiṃ mitraṃ varuṇaṃ sujātān | aryamaṇaṃ bhagamadabdhadhītīnacchā voce sadhanyaḥ pāvakān ||

I praise you, protectors of the solemn sacrifice, the well-born Aditi, Mitra and Varuṇa and Aryaman and Bhaga; I celebrate the gods whose acts are unimpeded, the bestowers of wealth, the dispensers of purity.

रिशादसः सत्पतीँरदब्धान्महो राज्ञः सुवसनस्य दातॄन् । यूनः सुक्षत्रान्क्षयतो दिवो नॄनादित्यान्याम्यदितिं दुवोयु ॥

riśādasaḥ satpatī~radabdhānmaho rājñaḥ suvasanasya dātṝn | yūnaḥ sukṣatrānkṣayato divo nṝnādityānyāmyaditiṃ duvoyu ||

The scatterers of the malevolent, the defenders of the virtuous, the irresistible, the mighty lords, the donors of good dwellings, ever young, very powerful, omnipresent, leader of heaven, the sons of Āditya; I have recourse to Aditi, who is gratified by mine adoration.

द्यौष्पितः पृथिवि मातरध्रुगग्ने भ्रातर्वसवो मृऴता नः । विश्व आदित्या अदिते सजोषा अस्मभ्यं शर्म बहुलं वि यन्त ॥

dyauṣpitaḥ pṛthivi mātaradhrugagne bhrātarvasavo mṛḻatā naḥ | viśva ādityā adite sajoṣā asmabhyaṃ śarma bahulaṃ vi yanta ||

Father Heaven, innocent mother Earth, brother Agni, and you, Vasus, grant us happiness; all you sons of Aditi, and you Aditi, alike well-plural ased, bestow upon us ample felicity.

मा नो वृकाय वृक्ये समस्मा अघायते रीरधता यजत्राः । यूयं हि ष्ठा रथ्यो नस्तनूनां यूयं दक्षस्य वचसो बभूव ॥

mā no vṛkāya vṛkye samasmā aghāyate rīradhatā yajatrāḥ | yūyaṃ hi ṣṭhā rathyo nastanūnāṃ yūyaṃ dakṣasya vacaso babhūva ||

Subject us not, adorable (deities), to the robber or his wife; not to any one designing us harm; for you are the regulators of our person ns, of our strength, of our speech.

मा व एनो अन्यकृतं भुजेम मा तत्कर्म वसवो यच्चयध्वे । विश्वस्य हि क्षयथ विश्वदेवाः स्वयं रिपुस्तन्वं रीरिषीष्ट ॥

mā va eno anyakṛtaṃ bhujema mā tatkarma vasavo yaccayadhve | viśvasya hi kṣayatha viśvadevāḥ svayaṃ ripustanvaṃ rīriṣīṣṭa ||

Let us not suffer for the sin committed by another; let us not do that which, Vasus, you prohibit; you rule universal gods, over the universe; (so provide that) mine enemy may inflict injury on his own person n.

नम इदुग्रं नम आ विवासे नमो दाधार पृथिवीमुत द्याम् । नमो देवेभ्यो नम ईश एषां कृतं चिदेनो नमसा विवासे ॥

nama idugraṃ nama ā vivāse namo dādhāra pṛthivīmuta dyām | namo devebhyo nama īśa eṣāṃ kṛtaṃ cideno namasā vivāse ||

Reverence be to the potent (company of universal gods); I offer (them) reverence; reverence sustains both earth and heaven; revernce be to the gods; reverence is sovereign over them; I expiate by reverence whatever sin may have been committed.

ऋतस्य वो रथ्यः पूतदक्षानृतस्य पस्त्यसदो अदब्धान् । ताँ आ नमोभिरुरुचक्षसो नॄन्विश्वान्व आ नमे महो यजत्राः ॥

ṛtasya vo rathyaḥ pūtadakṣānṛtasya pastyasado adabdhān | tā~ ā namobhirurucakṣaso nṝnviśvānva ā name maho yajatrāḥ ||

Adorable (deities), I venerate with reverential salutations all you who are mighty, the mighty, the regulators of your sacrifice, of pure vigour, dwellers in the chamber of worship, unsubdued, far-seeing, leaders (of rites).

ते हि श्रेष्ठवर्चसस्त उ नस्तिरो विश्वानि दुरिता नयन्ति । सुक्षत्रासो वरुणो मित्रो अग्निॠतधीतयो वक्मराजसत्याः ॥

te hi śreṣṭhavarcasasta u nastiro viśvāni duritā nayanti | sukṣatrāso varuṇo mitro agniṝtadhītayo vakmarājasatyāḥ ||

May they, exceeding in splendour, so guide us, that all iniquities may disappear, they, the very powerful Varuṇa, Mitra, Agni, practisers of truth, and faithful to those who are prominent in (their) praise.

ते न इन्द्रः पृथिवी क्षाम वर्धन्पूषा भगो अदितिः पञ्च जनाः । सुशर्माणः स्ववसः सुनीथा भवन्तु नः सुत्रात्रासः सुगोपाः ॥

te na indraḥ pṛthivī kṣāma vardhanpūṣā bhago aditiḥ pañca janāḥ | suśarmāṇaḥ svavasaḥ sunīthā bhavantu naḥ sutrātrāsaḥ sugopāḥ ||

May they, Indra, Earth, Pūṣan, Bhaga, Aditi and the five orders of beings, give increase to our habitations; may they be to us granters of happiness, bestowers of food, guides to good, our gracious defenders and preservers.

नू सद्मानं दिव्यं नंशि देवा भारद्वाजः सुमतिं याति होता । आसानेभिर्यजमानो मियेधैर्देवानां जन्म वसूयुर्ववन्द ॥

nū sadmānaṃ divyaṃ naṃśi devā bhāradvājaḥ sumatiṃ yāti hotā | āsānebhiryajamāno miyedhairdevānāṃ janma vasūyurvavanda ||

May the preseenter of the oblation, Bharadvāja, quickly obtain, gods, a celestial abode, as he solicits your good-will; the instrumental tutor of the ceremony, together with pious associates, desirous of riches, glorifies the assembly of the gods.

अप त्यं वृजिनं रिपुं स्तेनमग्ने दुराध्यम् । दविष्ठमस्य सत्पते कृधी सुगम् ॥

apa tyaṃ vṛjinaṃ ripuṃ stenamagne durādhyam | daviṣṭhamasya satpate kṛdhī sugam ||

Drive away, Agni, to a distance the wicked, felonious, malignant enemy; grant us felicity, protector of the virtuous.

ग्रावाणः सोम नो हि कं सखित्वनाय वावशुः । जही न्यत्रिणं पणिं वृको हि षः ॥

grāvāṇaḥ soma no hi kaṃ sakhitvanāya vāvaśuḥ | jahī nyatriṇaṃ paṇiṃ vṛko hi ṣaḥ ||

These our grinding stones are anxious, Soma, for your friendship; destroy the voracious Paṇi, for verily he is a wolf.

यूयं हि ष्ठा सुदानव इन्द्रज्येष्ठा अभिद्यवः । कर्ता नो अध्वन्ना सुगं गोपा अमा ॥

yūyaṃ hi ṣṭhā sudānava indrajyeṣṭhā abhidyavaḥ | kartā no adhvannā sugaṃ gopā amā ||

You are munificent and illustrious, gods, with Indra for your chief, be with us, protectors, on the road, and grant us happiness.

अपि पन्थामगन्महि स्वस्तिगामनेहसम् । येन विश्वाः परि द्विषो वृणक्ति विन्दते वसु ॥

api panthāmaganmahi svastigāmanehasam | yena viśvāḥ pari dviṣo vṛṇakti vindate vasu ||

We have travelled along the road prosperously traversed and free from evil, and by which (a man) avoids adversaries and acquires wealth.
