[rv-6-23] • 10 श्लोकाः

सुत इत्त्वं निमिश्ल इन्द्र सोमे स्तोमे ब्रह्मणि शस्यमान उक्थे । यद्वा युक्ताभ्यां मघवन्हरिभ्यां बिभ्रद्वज्रं बाह्वोरिन्द्र यासि ॥

suta ittvaṃ nimiśla indra some stome brahmaṇi śasyamāna ukthe | yadvā yuktābhyāṃ maghavanharibhyāṃ bibhradvajraṃ bāhvorindra yāsi ||

Indra, when the Soma is being effused, the sacred hymn chanted, the prayer recited, be you prepared (to harness your horses), or, Maghavan, with your horses ready harnessed, come (hither), bearing the thunderbolt in your hand.

यद्वा दिवि पार्ये सुष्विमिन्द्र वृत्रहत्येऽवसि शूरसातौ । यद्वा दक्षस्य बिभ्युषो अबिभ्यदरन्धयः शर्धत इन्द्र दस्यून् ॥

yadvā divi pārye suṣvimindra vṛtrahatye'vasi śūrasātau | yadvā dakṣasya bibhyuṣo abibhyadarandhayaḥ śardhata indra dasyūn ||

Or as, although engaged in heaven in the hero-animating conflict with foes, you protect the offerer of the libation, and humblest, undaunted Indra, the Dasyus, the disturbers of the pious and terrified worshipper, (so do you come when the soma is effused.

पाता सुतमिन्द्रो अस्तु सोमं प्रणेनीरुग्रो जरितारमूती । कर्ता वीराय सुष्वय उ लोकं दाता वसु स्तुवते कीरये चित् ॥

pātā sutamindro astu somaṃ praṇenīrugro jaritāramūtī | kartā vīrāya suṣvaya u lokaṃ dātā vasu stuvate kīraye cit ||

May Indra be the drinker of the effused soma, he who is the fierce conductor of the worshipper to security; may he be the donor of the world to the presenter of the libation, the giver of wealth to the man who adores him.

गन्तेयान्ति सवना हरिभ्यां बभ्रिर्वज्रं पपिः सोमं ददिर्गाः । कर्ता वीरं नर्यं सर्ववीरं श्रोता हवं गृणतः स्तोमवाहाः ॥

ganteyānti savanā haribhyāṃ babhrirvajraṃ papiḥ somaṃ dadirgāḥ | kartā vīraṃ naryaṃ sarvavīraṃ śrotā havaṃ gṛṇataḥ stomavāhāḥ ||

May Indra, with his steeds, come o us as many (daily) rites (as may be celebrated), bearing the thundeerbolt, drinking the soma, bestowing cattle, granting manly and multiplied posterity, hearing the invocation of his adorer, and being the accenter of (our) praises.

अस्मै वयं यद्वावान तद्विविष्म इन्द्राय यो नः प्रदिवो अपस्कः । सुते सोमे स्तुमसि शंसदुक्थेन्द्राय ब्रह्म वर्धनं यथासत् ॥

asmai vayaṃ yadvāvāna tadviviṣma indrāya yo naḥ pradivo apaskaḥ | sute some stumasi śaṃsadukthendrāya brahma vardhanaṃ yathāsat ||

To that Indra, who of old has rendered us good offices, we address (the praise) that he is plural ased by; we celebrate him when the soma is effused, repeating the prayer that the (sacrificial) food (offered) to Indra may be for his augmentation.

ब्रह्माणि हि चकृषे वर्धनानि तावत्त इन्द्र मतिभिर्विविष्मः । सुते सोमे सुतपाः शंतमानि राण्ड्या क्रियास्म वक्षणानि यज्ञैः ॥

brahmāṇi hi cakṛṣe vardhanāni tāvatta indra matibhirviviṣmaḥ | sute some sutapāḥ śaṃtamāni rāṇḍyā kriyāsma vakṣaṇāni yajñaiḥ ||

Since, Indra, you have made the (sacred) prayers (the means of) your augmentation, we address such to you, along with our praises; may we offer gratifying and acceptable eulogies to the drinker of the effused libation, with (our) sacrifices.

स नो बोधि पुरोऴाशं रराणः पिबा तु सोमं गोऋजीकमिन्द्र । एदं बर्हिर्यजमानस्य सीदोरुं कृधि त्वायत उ लोकम् ॥

sa no bodhi puroḻāśaṃ rarāṇaḥ pibā tu somaṃ goṛjīkamindra | edaṃ barhiryajamānasya sīdoruṃ kṛdhi tvāyata u lokam ||

Accept, Indra, who are condescending, our cakes and butter; drink the soma mixed with curds; sit down upon this sacred grass (strewn by) the worshipper; grant ample possessions to him who depends on you.

स मन्दस्वा ह्यनु जोषमुग्र प्र त्वा यज्ञास इमे अश्नुवन्तु । प्रेमे हवासः पुरुहूतमस्मे आ त्वेयं धीरवस इन्द्र यम्याः ॥

sa mandasvā hyanu joṣamugra pra tvā yajñāsa ime aśnuvantu | preme havāsaḥ puruhūtamasme ā tveyaṃ dhīravasa indra yamyāḥ ||

Rejoice, fierce Indra, according to your plural asure; let these libations reach you; invoked of many, may these our invocations ascend to you; may this praise influence you for our protection.

तं वः सखायः सं यथा सुतेषु सोमेभिरीं पृणता भोजमिन्द्रम् । कुवित्तस्मा असति नो भराय न सुष्विमिन्द्रोऽवसे मृधाति ॥

taṃ vaḥ sakhāyaḥ saṃ yathā suteṣu somebhirīṃ pṛṇatā bhojamindram | kuvittasmā asati no bharāya na suṣvimindro'vase mṛdhāti ||

Friends, when the libations are effused, do you satisfy that liberal Indra with the soma; let there be plural nty for him, that (he may provide) for our nourishmen; Indra never neglects the care of him who presents copious oblations.

एवेदिन्द्रः सुते अस्तावि सोमे भरद्वाजेषु क्षयदिन्मघोनः । असद्यथा जरित्र उत सूरिरिन्द्रो रायो विश्ववारस्य दाता ॥

evedindraḥ sute astāvi some bharadvājeṣu kṣayadinmaghonaḥ | asadyathā jaritra uta sūririndro rāyo viśvavārasya dātā ||

Thus has Indra, the lord of the opulent, been glorified by the Bhaāradvājas, upon the libation being effused, that he may be th director of his eulogist (to virtue), that Indra may be the giver of all desirable riches.
