[rv-6-24] • 10 श्लोकाः

वृषा मद इन्द्रे श्लोक उक्था सचा सोमेषु सुतपा ऋजीषी । अर्चत्र्यो मघवा नृभ्य उक्थैर्द्युक्षो राजा गिरामक्षितोतिः ॥

vṛṣā mada indre śloka ukthā sacā someṣu sutapā ṛjīṣī | arcatryo maghavā nṛbhya ukthairdyukṣo rājā girāmakṣitotiḥ ||

At the rites at which soma (is offered) the exhilaration (produced) in Indra is a shower (of benefits to the offerer); so is the chanted hymn with the (recited) prayer, therefore the drinker of the soma, the partaker of the stale soma, Maghavan, is to be propitiated by men with praises; dweller in heaven, he is the lord of sacred songs, unwearied in the protection (of his votaries).

ततुरिर्वीरो नर्यो विचेताः श्रोता हवं गृणत उर्व्यूतिः । वसुः शंसो नरां कारुधाया वाजी स्तुतो विदथे दाति वाजम् ॥

taturirvīro naryo vicetāḥ śrotā havaṃ gṛṇata urvyūtiḥ | vasuḥ śaṃso narāṃ kārudhāyā vājī stuto vidathe dāti vājam ||

The surpasser (of foes), a hero, the friend of man, the discriminator, the hearer of the invocation, the great protector of his adorers, the giver of dwelings, the ruler of men, the cherisher of his worshippers, the bestower of food, grants us, when glorified at the sacrifice, (abundant) sustenance.

अक्षो न चक्र्योः शूर बृहन्प्र ते मह्ना रिरिचे रोदस्योः । वृक्षस्य नु ते पुरुहूत वया व्यूतयो रुरुहुरिन्द्र पूर्वीः ॥

akṣo na cakryoḥ śūra bṛhanpra te mahnā ririce rodasyoḥ | vṛkṣasya nu te puruhūta vayā vyūtayo ruruhurindra pūrvīḥ ||

Mighty hero, by your magnitude, (the exten) of heaven and earth is exceeded, as the axle by the (circumerfence of the) wheels; invoked of many, your numerous benefits, Indra, spread out like the branches of a tree.

शचीवतस्ते पुरुशाक शाका गवामिव स्रुतयः संचरणीः । वत्सानां न तन्तयस्त इन्द्र दामन्वन्तो अदामानः सुदामन् ॥

śacīvataste puruśāka śākā gavāmiva srutayaḥ saṃcaraṇīḥ | vatsānāṃ na tantayasta indra dāmanvanto adāmānaḥ sudāman ||

Accomplisher of many acts, the energies of you who are (ever) active (congregate from all directions), like the converging tracks of cattle; they are the bonds (of foes), themselves unfettered, munificent Indra, like the tethers of (many) calves.

अन्यदद्य कर्वरमन्यदु श्वोऽसच्च सन्मुहुराचक्रिरिन्द्रः । मित्रो नो अत्र वरुणश्च पूषार्यो वशस्य पर्येतास्ति ॥

anyadadya karvaramanyadu śvo'sacca sanmuhurācakririndraḥ | mitro no atra varuṇaśca pūṣāryo vaśasya paryetāsti ||

Indra achieves one act today, another tomorrow, evil and good repeatedly; may he, and Mitra, Varuṇa, Pūṣan, Arya, be on this occasion promoters of the desired result.

वि त्वदापो न पर्वतस्य पृष्ठादुक्थेभिरिन्द्रानयन्त यज्ञैः । तं त्वाभिः सुष्टुतिभिर्वाजयन्त आजिं न जग्मुर्गिर्वाहो अश्वाः ॥

vi tvadāpo na parvatasya pṛṣṭhādukthebhirindrānayanta yajñaiḥ | taṃ tvābhiḥ suṣṭutibhirvājayanta ājiṃ na jagmurgirvāho aśvāḥ ||

By praises and by sacrifices, Indra, (men) bring down (what they desire) from you, as the waters (descend) from the top of the mountain; desirous of food, they approach you, who are accessible to praise, with these their eulogies, as (eagerly as) coursers rush to battle.

न यं जरन्ति शरदो न मासा न द्याव इन्द्रमवकर्शयन्ति । वृद्धस्य चिद्वर्धतामस्य तनूः स्तोमेभिरुक्थैश्च शस्यमाना ॥

na yaṃ jaranti śarado na māsā na dyāva indramavakarśayanti | vṛddhasya cidvardhatāmasya tanūḥ stomebhirukthaiśca śasyamānā ||

May the person n of that vast Indra, celebrated by praises and prayers, ever increase; Indra, whom neither years nor months make old, nor days enfeeble.

न वीऴवे नमते न स्थिराय न शर्धते दस्युजूताय स्तवान् । अज्रा इन्द्रस्य गिरयश्चिदृष्वा गम्भीरे चिद्भवति गाधमस्मै ॥

na vīḻave namate na sthirāya na śardhate dasyujūtāya stavān | ajrā indrasya girayaścidṛṣvā gambhīre cidbhavati gādhamasmai ||

Glorified by us, he bows not down to the robust, nor to the resolute, nor to the person vering (worshipper) who is instrumental gated by the (irreligious) Dasyus; the lofty mountains are easy of access o Indra; to him there is a bottom in the (lowest) deep.

गम्भीरेण न उरुणामत्रिन्प्रेषो यन्धि सुतपावन्वाजान् । स्था ऊ षु ऊर्ध्व ऊती अरिषण्यन्नक्तोर्व्युष्टौ परितक्म्यायाम् ॥

gambhīreṇa na uruṇāmatrinpreṣo yandhi sutapāvanvājān | sthā ū ṣu ūrdhva ūtī ariṣaṇyannaktorvyuṣṭau paritakmyāyām ||

Powerful Indra, drinker of the soma, (actuated) by a profound and comprehensive (purpose), grant us food and strength; be ever diligent, benevolent Indra, for our protection by day and by night.

सचस्व नायमवसे अभीक इतो वा तमिन्द्र पाहि रिषः । अमा चैनमरण्ये पाहि रिषो मदेम शतहिमाः सुवीराः ॥

sacasva nāyamavase abhīka ito vā tamindra pāhi riṣaḥ | amā cainamaraṇye pāhi riṣo madema śatahimāḥ suvīrāḥ ||

Accompany, Indra, the leader in battle for his protection; defend him against a near (or distant) foe; protect him from an enemy, whether in (his) house or in a forest, and may we, blessed with excellent male descendants, be happy for a hundred winters.
