[rv-6-22] • 11 श्लोकाः

य एक इद्धव्यश्चर्षणीनामिन्द्रं तं गीर्भिरभ्यर्च आभिः । यः पत्यते वृषभो वृष्ण्यावान्त्सत्यः सत्वा पुरुमायः सहस्वान् ॥

ya eka iddhavyaścarṣaṇīnāmindraṃ taṃ gīrbhirabhyarca ābhiḥ | yaḥ patyate vṛṣabho vṛṣṇyāvāntsatyaḥ satvā purumāyaḥ sahasvān ||

I glorify with these praises, Indra, who alone is to be invoked by man; who comes (to his worshippers) the showerer (of benefits), the vigorous, the observer of truth, the subduer of foes, the possessor of manifold knowledge, the mighty.

तमु नः पूर्वे पितरो नवग्वाः सप्त विप्रासो अभि वाजयन्तः । नक्षद्दाभं ततुरिं पर्वतेष्ठामद्रोघवाचं मतिभिः शविष्ठम् ॥

tamu naḥ pūrve pitaro navagvāḥ sapta viprāso abhi vājayantaḥ | nakṣaddābhaṃ taturiṃ parvateṣṭhāmadroghavācaṃ matibhiḥ śaviṣṭham ||

To him the seven sages, our ancient progenitors, performing the nine days' rite, were offerers of (sacrificial) food, celebrating with hymns the very strong (Indra), the humiliator of foes, the traverser of the heavens, he dweller in the clouds, whose commands are not to be disobeyed.

तमीमह इन्द्रमस्य रायः पुरुवीरस्य नृवतः पुरुक्षोः । यो अस्कृधोयुरजरः स्वर्वान्तमा भर हरिवो मादयध्यै ॥

tamīmaha indramasya rāyaḥ puruvīrasya nṛvataḥ purukṣoḥ | yo askṛdhoyurajaraḥ svarvāntamā bhara harivo mādayadhyai ||

We solicit that Indra for wealth, comprehending numerous descendants, followers and much cattle, and which is undisturbed, imperishable, and the source of felicity, such riches, lord of steeds, bestow upon us to make us happy.

तन्नो वि वोचो यदि ते पुरा चिज्जरितार आनशुः सुम्नमिन्द्र । कस्ते भागः किं वयो दुध्र खिद्वः पुरुहूत पुरूवसोऽसुरघ्नः ॥

tanno vi voco yadi te purā cijjaritāra ānaśuḥ sumnamindra | kaste bhāgaḥ kiṃ vayo dudhra khidvaḥ puruhūta purūvaso'suraghnaḥ ||

If, Indra, your worshippers have formerly obtained felicity, confer that also upon us; irresistible Indra, subduer of foes, invoked of many, abounding in wealth, what is the portion, what the offering (due) to you who are the slayer of the asuras?

तं पृच्छन्ती वज्रहस्तं रथेष्ठामिन्द्रं वेपी वक्वरी यस्य नू गीः । तुविग्राभं तुविकूर्मिं रभोदां गातुमिषे नक्षते तुम्रमच्छ ॥

taṃ pṛcchantī vajrahastaṃ ratheṣṭhāmindraṃ vepī vakvarī yasya nū gīḥ | tuvigrābhaṃ tuvikūrmiṃ rabhodāṃ gātumiṣe nakṣate tumramaccha ||

He whose ceremonial and eulogistic hymn is commemorating Indra, the holder of the thunderbolt, seated in his car, the accepter of many, the doer of many great deeds, the bestower of strength, proceeds promptly to acquire happiness, and encounters (with confidence) the malevolent.

अया ह त्यं मायया वावृधानं मनोजुवा स्वतवः पर्वतेन । अच्युता चिद्वीऴिता स्वोजो रुजो वि दृऴ्हा धृषता विरप्शिन् ॥

ayā ha tyaṃ māyayā vāvṛdhānaṃ manojuvā svatavaḥ parvatena | acyutā cidvīḻitā svojo rujo vi dṛḻhā dhṛṣatā virapśin ||

Self-invigorated Indra, you have crushed by your knotted (thunderbolt), quick as thought, that Vṛtra, growing in strength by this cunning; very radiant and mighty (Indra), you have demolished by (your) irresistible (shaft) the unyielding, compact, and strong (cities of the asuras).

तं वो धिया नव्यस्या शविष्ठं प्रत्नं प्रत्नवत्परितंसयध्यै । स नो वक्षदनिमानः सुवह्मेन्द्रो विश्वान्यति दुर्गहाणि ॥

taṃ vo dhiyā navyasyā śaviṣṭhaṃ pratnaṃ pratnavatparitaṃsayadhyai | sa no vakṣadanimānaḥ suvahmendro viśvānyati durgahāṇi ||

(I have undertaken) to spread around with a new hymn, as i was done of old, (the glory of) you, the ancient and most mighty (Indra); may that Indra, who is illimitable, and is a sure conveyance, bear us over all difficulties.

आ जनाय द्रुह्वणे पार्थिवानि दिव्यानि दीपयोऽन्तरिक्षा । तपा वृषन्विश्वतः शोचिषा तान्ब्रह्मद्विषे शोचय क्षामपश्च ॥

ā janāya druhvaṇe pārthivāni divyāni dīpayo'ntarikṣā | tapā vṛṣanviśvataḥ śociṣā tānbrahmadviṣe śocaya kṣāmapaśca ||

Make hot the regions of earth, of heaven, of mid air, for the oppressive race (of the rākṣasas); showerer (of benefits), consume them everywhere with your radiance, make the heaven and the firmament (too) hot for the impious.

भुवो जनस्य दिव्यस्य राजा पार्थिवस्य जगतस्त्वेषसंदृक् । धिष्व वज्रं दक्षिण इन्द्र हस्ते विश्वा अजुर्य दयसे वि मायाः ॥

bhuvo janasya divyasya rājā pārthivasya jagatastveṣasaṃdṛk | dhiṣva vajraṃ dakṣiṇa indra haste viśvā ajurya dayase vi māyāḥ ||

Bright-flaming Indra, you are the king of the people of heaven, and of the moving races of earth; grasp in your right hand the thunderbolt, wherewith, Indra, who are beyond all praise, you baffle all the devices (of the asuras).

आ संयतमिन्द्र णः स्वस्तिं शत्रुतूर्याय बृहतीममृध्राम् । यया दासान्यार्याणि वृत्रा करो वज्रिन्त्सुतुका नाहुषाणि ॥

ā saṃyatamindra ṇaḥ svastiṃ śatrutūryāya bṛhatīmamṛdhrām | yayā dāsānyāryāṇi vṛtrā karo vajrintsutukā nāhuṣāṇi ||

Brin to us, Indra, concentrated, vast and unassailable prosperity beyond the reach of enemies, and by which, wielder of the thunderbolt, you have rendered human enemies, whether Dāsas or Āryas, easy to be overcome.

स नो नियुद्भिः पुरुहूत वेधो विश्ववाराभिरा गहि प्रयज्यो । न या अदेवो वरते न देव आभिर्याहि तूयमा मद्र्यद्रिक् ॥

sa no niyudbhiḥ puruhūta vedho viśvavārābhirā gahi prayajyo | na yā adevo varate na deva ābhiryāhi tūyamā madryadrik ||

Invoked of many, creator, object of sacrifices, come to us with your all-admired steeds, whom neither asura nor deity arrests; come with them quickly to our presence.
