[rv-6-19] • 13 श्लोकाः

महाँ इन्द्रो नृवदा चर्षणिप्रा उत द्विबर्हा अमिनः सहोभिः । अस्मद्र्यग्वावृधे वीर्यायोरुः पृथुः सुकृतः कर्तृभिर्भूत् ॥

mahā~ indro nṛvadā carṣaṇiprā uta dvibarhā aminaḥ sahobhiḥ | asmadryagvāvṛdhe vīryāyoruḥ pṛthuḥ sukṛtaḥ kartṛbhirbhūt ||

May the great Indra, who is as a monarch the fulfiller (of the desires) of men, come hither; may he who is mighty over the two (realms of space), uninjurable by (hostile) offers, increase (in capacity) for heroism in our presence; may he who is great (in body), eminent (in qualities), be honoured by the performers (of pious acts).

इन्द्रमेव धिषणा सातये धाद्बृहन्तमृष्वमजरं युवानम् । अषाऴ्हेन शवसा शूशुवांसं सद्यश्चिद्यो वावृधे असामि ॥

indrameva dhiṣaṇā sātaye dhādbṛhantamṛṣvamajaraṃ yuvānam | aṣāḻhena śavasā śūśuvāṃsaṃ sadyaścidyo vāvṛdhe asāmi ||

Our praise encourages Indra o munificence, the vast, quick-moving, undecaying, ever-youthful Indra, mighty with unsurpassable strength, who rapidly grows to greatness.

पृथू करस्ना बहुला गभस्ती अस्मद्र्यक्सं मिमीहि श्रवांसि । यूथेव पश्वः पशुपा दमूना अस्माँ इन्द्राभ्या ववृत्स्वाजौ ॥

pṛthū karasnā bahulā gabhastī asmadryaksaṃ mimīhi śravāṃsi | yūtheva paśvaḥ paśupā damūnā asmā~ indrābhyā vavṛtsvājau ||

Extend towards us your long, active, and bountiful hands, (to bring us) food; be abot us, lowly-minded Indra, in battle, as a herdsman (tends) the herds of cattle.

तं व इन्द्रं चतिनमस्य शाकैरिह नूनं वाजयन्तो हुवेम । यथा चित्पूर्वे जरितार आसुरनेद्या अनवद्या अरिष्टाः ॥

taṃ va indraṃ catinamasya śākairiha nūnaṃ vājayanto huvema | yathā citpūrve jaritāra āsuranedyā anavadyā ariṣṭāḥ ||

Desiring sustenance, we invoke you, the renowned Indra, on this occasion, the destroyer (of enemies), together with his powerful allies (the Maruts); as his ancient adorers have been, (may we be), exempt from blame, irreproachable, unharmed.

धृतव्रतो धनदाः सोमवृद्धः स हि वामस्य वसुनः पुरुक्षुः । सं जग्मिरे पथ्या रायो अस्मिन्त्समुद्रे न सिन्धवो यादमानाः ॥

dhṛtavrato dhanadāḥ somavṛddhaḥ sa hi vāmasya vasunaḥ purukṣuḥ | saṃ jagmire pathyā rāyo asmintsamudre na sindhavo yādamānāḥ ||

In him who is observant of pious rites, who is a giver of wealth, who is exalted by the Soma, the (lord) of desirable riches, the distributor of food, (in him) the treasures fit (for his worshippers) congregate like rivers flowing into ocean.

शविष्ठं न आ भर शूर शव ओजिष्ठमोजो अभिभूत उग्रम् । विश्वा द्युम्ना वृष्ण्या मानुषाणामस्मभ्यं दा हरिवो मादयध्यै ॥

śaviṣṭhaṃ na ā bhara śūra śava ojiṣṭhamojo abhibhūta ugram | viśvā dyumnā vṛṣṇyā mānuṣāṇāmasmabhyaṃ dā harivo mādayadhyai ||

Bestow upon us, hero Indra, most vigorous vigour; subduer (of enemies, bestow upon us) most energetic and fierce energy; grant, lord of steeds, all the bright and invigorating (treasures) fit for men, to make us happy.

यस्ते मदः पृतनाषाऴमृध्र इन्द्र तं न आ भर शूशुवांसम् । येन तोकस्य तनयस्य सातौ मंसीमहि जिगीवांसस्त्वोताः ॥

yaste madaḥ pṛtanāṣāḻamṛdhra indra taṃ na ā bhara śūśuvāṃsam | yena tokasya tanayasya sātau maṃsīmahi jigīvāṃsastvotāḥ ||

Impart to us, Indra, that your invigorating exultatio which overcomes enemies, and is irresistible, where by, protected by you, triumphant we may glorify you for the sake of (obtaining) sons and grandsons.

आ नो भर वृषणं शुष्ममिन्द्र धनस्पृतं शूशुवांसं सुदक्षम् । येन वंसाम पृतनासु शत्रून्तवोतिभिरुत जामीँरजामीन् ॥

ā no bhara vṛṣaṇaṃ śuṣmamindra dhanaspṛtaṃ śūśuvāṃsaṃ sudakṣam | yena vaṃsāma pṛtanāsu śatrūntavotibhiruta jāmī~rajāmīn ||

Bestow upon us, Indra, vigorous strenght, the realizer of wealth, great and propitious, wherewith, thorugh your protection, we may destroy our enemies in battles, whether they be kinsmen or strangers.

आ ते शुष्मो वृषभ एतु पश्चादोत्तरादधरादा पुरस्तात् । आ विश्वतो अभि समेत्वर्वाङिन्द्र द्युम्नं स्वर्वद्धेह्यस्मे ॥

ā te śuṣmo vṛṣabha etu paścādottarādadharādā purastāt | ā viśvato abhi sametvarvāṅindra dyumnaṃ svarvaddhehyasme ||

May your invigorating srength come from the west, from the north, from the south, from the east; may it come to us from every quarter; grant us riches combined with felicity.

नृवत्त इन्द्र नृतमाभिरूती वंसीमहि वामं श्रोमतेभिः । ईक्षे हि वस्व उभयस्य राजन्धा रत्नं महि स्थूरं बृहन्तम् ॥

nṛvatta indra nṛtamābhirūtī vaṃsīmahi vāmaṃ śromatebhiḥ | īkṣe hi vasva ubhayasya rājandhā ratnaṃ mahi sthūraṃ bṛhantam ||

We enjoy, Indra, through your guiding protection, desirable affluence along with descendants and reputation; grant us, sovereign, who rule over (earthly and heavenly) riches, vast, desirable and infinite treasures.

मरुत्वन्तं वृषभं वावृधानमकवारिं दिव्यं शासमिन्द्रम् । विश्वासाहमवसे नूतनायोग्रं सहोदामिह तं हुवेम ॥

marutvantaṃ vṛṣabhaṃ vāvṛdhānamakavāriṃ divyaṃ śāsamindram | viśvāsāhamavase nūtanāyograṃ sahodāmiha taṃ huvema ||

We invoke on this occasion for his present protection, that Indra who is attended by the Maruts; who is the showerer (of benefits); augmenting (in prowess); the unreviled of foes, radiant, ruling, all-subduing, fierce, the giver of strength.

जनं वज्रिन्महि चिन्मन्यमानमेभ्यो नृभ्यो रन्धया येष्वस्मि । अधा हि त्वा पृथिव्यां शूरसातौ हवामहे तनये गोष्वप्सु ॥

janaṃ vajrinmahi cinmanyamānamebhyo nṛbhyo randhayā yeṣvasmi | adhā hi tvā pṛthivyāṃ śūrasātau havāmahe tanaye goṣvapsu ||

Wielder of the thunderbolt, humble that man who looks upon himself as the greatest among those men of whom I am; we invoke you now to (ascend) upon the earth at the time of battle, and for (the sake of obtaining) sond and grandsons.

वयं त एभिः पुरुहूत सख्यैः शत्रोःशत्रोरुत्तर इत्स्याम । घ्नन्तो वृत्राण्युभयानि शूर राया मदेम बृहता त्वोताः ॥

vayaṃ ta ebhiḥ puruhūta sakhyaiḥ śatroḥśatroruttara itsyāma | ghnanto vṛtrāṇyubhayāni śūra rāyā madema bṛhatā tvotāḥ ||

Invoked of many, may we, through these your friendly (praises), ever be superior to successive foes, destroying, oḥ hero, both (classes of) enemies, (kindred or unallied); and may we, protected by you, be happy with abundant riches.
