[rv-6-18] • 15 श्लोकाः

तमु ष्टुहि यो अभिभूत्योजा वन्वन्नवातः पुरुहूत इन्द्रः । अषाऴ्हमुग्रं सहमानमाभिर्गीर्भिर्वर्ध वृषभं चर्षणीनाम् ॥

tamu ṣṭuhi yo abhibhūtyojā vanvannavātaḥ puruhūta indraḥ | aṣāḻhamugraṃ sahamānamābhirgīrbhirvardha vṛṣabhaṃ carṣaṇīnām ||

Praise him who is Indra, the invoker of many, endowed with overpowering vigour, the destroyer (of foes), unharmed by them; exalt with these praises the irresistible, fierce, victorious Indra, the showerer (of benefits) upon mankind.

स युध्मः सत्वा खजकृत्समद्वा तुविम्रक्षो नदनुमाँ ऋजीषी । बृहद्रेणुश्च्यवनो मानुषीणामेकः कृष्टीनामभवत्सहावा ॥

sa yudhmaḥ satvā khajakṛtsamadvā tuvimrakṣo nadanumā~ ṛjīṣī | bṛhadreṇuścyavano mānuṣīṇāmekaḥ kṛṣṭīnāmabhavatsahāvā ||

He is ever the combatant, the donor, the engaged in battle, the sympathizer (with the sacrificer), the benefactor of many, the loud-sounding, the partaker of the stale libation, the stirrer up of dust (in strife), the chief protector of men the descendants of Manu, the endowed with strength.

त्वं ह नु त्यददमायो दस्यूँरेकः कृष्टीरवनोरार्याय । अस्ति स्विन्नु वीर्यं तत्त इन्द्र न स्विदस्ति तदृतुथा वि वोचः ॥

tvaṃ ha nu tyadadamāyo dasyū~rekaḥ kṛṣṭīravanorāryāya | asti svinnu vīryaṃ tatta indra na svidasti tadṛtuthā vi vocaḥ ||

You are he who has quickly humbled the Dasyus; you are the chief one who has given posterity to the Arya;but, Indra, is not verily your power such? If it be not, then in due season confess.

सदिद्धि ते तुविजातस्य मन्ये सहः सहिष्ठ तुरतस्तुरस्य । उग्रमुग्रस्य तवसस्तवीयोऽरध्रस्य रध्रतुरो बभूव ॥

sadiddhi te tuvijātasya manye sahaḥ sahiṣṭha turatasturasya | ugramugrasya tavasastavīyo'radhrasya radhraturo babhūva ||

Yet, most mighty one, I believe that powre is verily always in you, who are manifest at many rites, and are the enemy of (our) enemies; (the power) that is fierce in the fierce one, most mighty in the mighty one, most unassailable in the subduer (of foes).

तन्नः प्रत्नं सख्यमस्तु युष्मे इत्था वदद्भिर्वलमङ्गिरोभिः । हन्नच्युतच्युद्दस्मेषयन्तमृणोः पुरो वि दुरो अस्य विश्वाः ॥

tannaḥ pratnaṃ sakhyamastu yuṣme itthā vadadbhirvalamaṅgirobhiḥ | hannacyutacyuddasmeṣayantamṛṇoḥ puro vi duro asya viśvāḥ ||

May that our ancient friendship with you ever endure; as when, along with the Aṅgirasas, celebrating your praises, you, beautiful Indra, caster down of the immoveable (roks), did verily slay Bala, hurling (his darts against you), and force open his cities, and all his gates.

स हि धीभिर्हव्यो अस्त्युग्र ईशानकृन्महति वृत्रतूर्ये । स तोकसाता तनये स वज्री वितन्तसाय्यो अभवत्समत्सु ॥

sa hi dhībhirhavyo astyugra īśānakṛnmahati vṛtratūrye | sa tokasātā tanaye sa vajrī vitantasāyyo abhavatsamatsu ||

Fierce Indra, maker of rules you are he who is to be invoked with praise in a great conflict; you are he (who is to be invoked) for sons and grandsons, he, the wielder of the thunderbolt, who is to be especially glorified in battles.

स मज्मना जनिम मानुषाणाममर्त्येन नाम्नाति प्र सर्स्रे । स द्युम्नेन स शवसोत राया स वीर्येण नृतमः समोकाः ॥

sa majmanā janima mānuṣāṇāmamartyena nāmnāti pra sarsre | sa dyumnena sa śavasota rāyā sa vīryeṇa nṛtamaḥ samokāḥ ||

With immortal, foe-humiliating might he has promoted the (multiplied) birth of mankind; he, the chief of leaders, dwells in the same dwelling with fame, with strength, with riches, with heroism.

स यो न मुहे न मिथू जनो भूत्सुमन्तुनामा चुमुरिं धुनिं च । वृणक्पिप्रुं शम्बरं शुष्णमिन्द्रः पुरां च्यौत्नाय शयथाय नू चित् ॥

sa yo na muhe na mithū jano bhūtsumantunāmā cumuriṃ dhuniṃ ca | vṛṇakpipruṃ śambaraṃ śuṣṇamindraḥ purāṃ cyautnāya śayathāya nū cit ||

He who is never perplexed, who is no engenderer of that which is in vain, whose name is renowned, who promptly (exerts himself) for the overturning of the cities (of the asuras), and for the destruction (of his foes); you, (Indra), have indeed slain Cumuri, Dhuni, Pipru, Śambara, and Śuṣṇa.

उदावता त्वक्षसा पन्यसा च वृत्रहत्याय रथमिन्द्र तिष्ठ । धिष्व वज्रं हस्त आ दक्षिणत्राभि प्र मन्द पुरुदत्र मायाः ॥

udāvatā tvakṣasā panyasā ca vṛtrahatyāya rathamindra tiṣṭha | dhiṣva vajraṃ hasta ā dakṣiṇatrābhi pra manda purudatra māyāḥ ||

(Endowed) with upward-rising, foe-thinning, and glorified (vigour), ascend your car for the destruction of Vṛtra; take the thunderbolt in your right hand, giver of wealth, baffle the devices (of the asuras).

अग्निर्न शुष्कं वनमिन्द्र हेती रक्षो नि धक्ष्यशनिर्न भीमा । गम्भीरय ऋष्वया यो रुरोजाध्वानयद्दुरिता दम्भयच्च ॥

agnirna śuṣkaṃ vanamindra hetī rakṣo ni dhakṣyaśanirna bhīmā | gambhīraya ṛṣvayā yo rurojādhvānayadduritā dambhayacca ||

In like manner as Agni consumes the dry forest, so, Indra, your weapon (destroys your enemies); as (formidable as you) fearful shaft, consume the rākṣasas; you who have shouted aloud (in the combat) and demolished all evil things.

आ सहस्रं पथिभिरिन्द्र राया तुविद्युम्न तुविवाजेभिरर्वाक् । याहि सूनो सहसो यस्य नू चिददेव ईशे पुरुहूत योतोः ॥

ā sahasraṃ pathibhirindra rāyā tuvidyumna tuvivājebhirarvāk | yāhi sūno sahaso yasya nū cidadeva īśe puruhūta yotoḥ ||

Opulent, Indra, son of strength, the invoker of many, whose union (with energy) the impious is unable to disjoint, come down to us with thousands of riches by very powerful conveyances.

प्र तुविद्युम्नस्य स्थविरस्य घृष्वेर्दिवो ररप्शे महिमा पृथिव्याः । नास्य शत्रुर्न प्रतिमानमस्ति न प्रतिष्ठिः पुरुमायस्य सह्योः ॥

pra tuvidyumnasya sthavirasya ghṛṣverdivo rarapśe mahimā pṛthivyāḥ | nāsya śatrurna pratimānamasti na pratiṣṭhiḥ purumāyasya sahyoḥ ||

The vastness of the affluent, ancient (Indra), the demolisher (of foes), exceeds that of the heaven and the earth; there is no antagonist, no counterpart, no recipient of him abounding in wisdom, victorious (in war).

प्र तत्ते अद्या करणं कृतं भूत्कुत्सं यदायुमतिथिग्वमस्मै । पुरू सहस्रा नि शिशा अभि क्षामुत्तूर्वयाणं धृषता निनेथ ॥

pra tatte adyā karaṇaṃ kṛtaṃ bhūtkutsaṃ yadāyumatithigvamasmai | purū sahasrā ni śiśā abhi kṣāmuttūrvayāṇaṃ dhṛṣatā ninetha ||

That exploit is celebrated in the present day (which you have) achieved for Kutsa, for Āyu, for Atithigvave; to him you have given many thousands (of riches), and you have quickly elevated Turvayāṇa over the earth by your power.

अनु त्वाहिघ्ने अध देव देवा मदन्विश्वे कवितमं कवीनाम् । करो यत्र वरिवो बाधिताय दिवे जनाय तन्वे गृणानः ॥

anu tvāhighne adha deva devā madanviśve kavitamaṃ kavīnām | karo yatra varivo bādhitāya dive janāya tanve gṛṇānaḥ ||

Divine Indra, all the gods have glorified you, the wisest of the wise, for the destruction of Ahi; when propitiated, you have given wealth to the distressed worshipper, and to his posterity.

अनु द्यावापृथिवी तत्त ओजोऽमर्त्या जिहत इन्द्र देवाः । कृष्वा कृत्नो अकृतं यत्ते अस्त्युक्थं नवीयो जनयस्व यज्ञैः ॥

anu dyāvāpṛthivī tatta ojo'martyā jihata indra devāḥ | kṛṣvā kṛtno akṛtaṃ yatte astyukthaṃ navīyo janayasva yajñaiḥ ||

The heaven and earth, and the immortal gods, acknowledge your might; doer of many deeds, do that which is yet undone by you, give birth to a new hymn at (your) sacrifice.
