ऋग्वेद 5.86 (श्लोक 1) - Project अर्थ (Artha)

इन्द्राग्नी यमवथ उभा वाजेषु मर्त्यम् । दृऴ्हा चित्स प्र भेदति द्युम्ना वाणीरिव त्रितः ॥

indrāgnī yamavatha ubhā vājeṣu martyam | dṛḻhā citsa pra bhedati dyumnā vāṇīriva tritaḥ ||

Indra and Agni, the mortal whom you both protect scatters the substantial treasures (of his enemies), as Trita (fonfutes) the words (of his opponents).

या पृतनासु दुष्टरा या वाजेषु श्रवाय्या । या पञ्च चर्षणीरभीन्द्राग्नी ता हवामहे ॥

yā pṛtanāsu duṣṭarā yā vājeṣu śravāyyā | yā pañca carṣaṇīrabhīndrāgnī tā havāmahe ||

We invoke the two, Indra and Agni, who are irresistible in conflicts, who are renowned in battles, who protect the five (classes of) men.

तयोरिदमवच्छवस्तिग्मा दिद्युन्मघोनोः । प्रति द्रुणा गभस्त्योर्गवां वृत्रघ्न एषते ॥

tayoridamavacchavastigmā didyunmaghonoḥ | prati druṇā gabhastyorgavāṃ vṛtraghna eṣate ||

Overpowering is the might of these two; the bright (lightning) is shining in the hands of Maghavan, as they go toether in one chariot for the (recovery of the) cows and the destruction of Vṛtra.

ता वामेषे रथानामिन्द्राग्नी हवामहे । पती तुरस्य राधसो विद्वांसा गिर्वणस्तमा ॥

tā vāmeṣe rathānāmindrāgnī havāmahe | patī turasya rādhaso vidvāṃsā girvaṇastamā ||

We invoke you both, Indra and Agni, for (sending) your chariots to the combat, lords of moveable wealth, all-knowing, most deserving of praise.

ता वृधन्तावनु द्यून्मर्ताय देवावदभा । अर्हन्ता चित्पुरो दधेंऽशेव देवावर्वते ॥

tā vṛdhantāvanu dyūnmartāya devāvadabhā | arhantā citpuro dadheṃ'śeva devāvarvate ||

I adore you, irresistible deities for (the sake of obtaining) horses; you who are increasing day by day like mortals, who are worthy of worship, like two Ādityas.

एवेन्द्राग्निभ्यामहावि हव्यं शूष्यं घृतं न पूतमद्रिभिः । ता सूरिषु श्रवो बृहद्रयिं गृणत्सु दिधृतमिषं गृणत्सु दिधृतम् ॥

evendrāgnibhyāmahāvi havyaṃ śūṣyaṃ ghṛtaṃ na pūtamadribhiḥ | tā sūriṣu śravo bṛhadrayiṃ gṛṇatsu didhṛtamiṣaṃ gṛṇatsu didhṛtam ||

The invigorating oblation has been offered, like the Soma-juice expressed by the sounding stones; do you bestow food uponthe pious; great riches upon those who praise you; bestow food also upon those who praise you.
