[rv-5-63] • 7 श्लोकाः

ऋतस्य गोपावधि तिष्ठथो रथं सत्यधर्माणा परमे व्योमनि । यमत्र मित्रावरुणावथो युवं तस्मै वृष्टिर्मधुमत्पिन्वते दिवः ॥

ṛtasya gopāvadhi tiṣṭhatho rathaṃ satyadharmāṇā parame vyomani | yamatra mitrāvaruṇāvatho yuvaṃ tasmai vṛṣṭirmadhumatpinvate divaḥ ||

Guardians of water, observers of truth, you ascend your car in the highest heaven; to him whom you, Mitra and Varuṇa, protect, the rain sends down the sweet (shower) from the sky.

सम्राजावस्य भुवनस्य राजथो मित्रावरुणा विदथे स्वर्दृशा । वृष्टिं वां राधो अमृतत्वमीमहे द्यावापृथिवी वि चरन्ति तन्यवः ॥

samrājāvasya bhuvanasya rājatho mitrāvaruṇā vidathe svardṛśā | vṛṣṭiṃ vāṃ rādho amṛtatvamīmahe dyāvāpṛthivī vi caranti tanyavaḥ ||

Imperial rulers of this world, you shine, Mitra and Varuṇa, at this sacrifice, the beholders of heaven; we ask of you the wealth (that is) rain, and immortality for your forms traverse earth and heaven.

सम्राजा उग्रा वृषभा दिवस्पती पृथिव्या मित्रावरुणा विचर्षणी । चित्रेभिरभ्रैरुप तिष्ठथो रवं द्यां वर्षयथो असुरस्य मायया ॥

samrājā ugrā vṛṣabhā divaspatī pṛthivyā mitrāvaruṇā vicarṣaṇī | citrebhirabhrairupa tiṣṭhatho ravaṃ dyāṃ varṣayatho asurasya māyayā ||

Imperial and mighty showerers, lords of heaven and earth, beholders of the universe, you approach, Mitra and Varuṇa, with variegated clouds to hear the sound (of your praises), and cause the sky to (send down) rain by the power of the emitter of showers.

माया वां मित्रावरुणा दिवि श्रिता सूर्यो ज्योतिश्चरति चित्रमायुधम् । तमभ्रेण वृष्ट्या गूहथो दिवि पर्जन्य द्रप्सा मधुमन्त ईरते ॥

māyā vāṃ mitrāvaruṇā divi śritā sūryo jyotiścarati citramāyudham | tamabhreṇa vṛṣṭyā gūhatho divi parjanya drapsā madhumanta īrate ||

Your deevice, Mitra and Varuṇa, is manifested in heaven, when the light (that is) the sun, your wonderful weapon, moves (in the firmament); him you invest in the sky with the cloud (and) with rain; and (your) sweet drops, Parjanya, fall (at their desire).

रथं युञ्जते मरुतः शुभे सुखं शूरो न मित्रावरुणा गविष्टिषु । रजांसि चित्रा वि चरन्ति तन्यवो दिवः सम्राजा पयसा न उक्षतम् ॥

rathaṃ yuñjate marutaḥ śubhe sukhaṃ śūro na mitrāvaruṇā gaviṣṭiṣu | rajāṃsi citrā vi caranti tanyavo divaḥ samrājā payasā na ukṣatam ||

The Maruts harness their easy-going chariot, Mitra and Varuṇa, for (the emission of) water, as a hero (harnesses his war-car); their forms traverse the different spheres to distribute the rain; do you, therefore, supreme rulers, shed upon us water from heaven.

वाचं सु मित्रावरुणाविरावतीं पर्जन्यश्चित्रां वदति त्विषीमतीम् । अभ्रा वसत मरुतः सु मायया द्यां वर्षयतमरुणामरेपसम् ॥

vācaṃ su mitrāvaruṇāvirāvatīṃ parjanyaścitrāṃ vadati tviṣīmatīm | abhrā vasata marutaḥ su māyayā dyāṃ varṣayatamaruṇāmarepasam ||

The cloud, (through your will), Mitra and Varuṇa, utters a wonderful sound, indicative of radiance, and announcing (abundant) food; the Maruts thoroughly invest the clouds with (their) devices, and, (along with them), you two cause the purple and faultless sky to send down rain.

धर्मणा मित्रावरुणा विपश्चिता व्रता रक्षेथे असुरस्य मायया । ऋतेन विश्वं भुवनं वि राजथः सूर्यमा धत्थो दिवि चित्र्यं रथम् ॥

dharmaṇā mitrāvaruṇā vipaścitā vratā rakṣethe asurasya māyayā | ṛtena viśvaṃ bhuvanaṃ vi rājathaḥ sūryamā dhattho divi citryaṃ ratham ||

Discerning, sagacious, Mitra and Varuṇa, by your office you protect pious rites, through the power of the emitter of showers; you illumine the whole world with water; you sustain the sun, the adorable chariot in the sky.
