[rv-5-60] • 8 श्लोकाः

ईऴे अग्निं स्ववसं नमोभिरिह प्रसत्तो वि चयत्कृतं नः । रथैरिव प्र भरे वाजयद्भिः प्रदक्षिणिन्मरुतां स्तोममृध्याम् ॥

īḻe agniṃ svavasaṃ namobhiriha prasatto vi cayatkṛtaṃ naḥ | rathairiva pra bhare vājayadbhiḥ pradakṣiṇinmarutāṃ stomamṛdhyām ||

I adore the protecting Agni with hymns; may he, propitiated on this occasion, approve of our acts; offer (worship with praises), intended to obtain food; as if (proceeding) with cars (to the goal), circumambulating (the fire); may I exalt the praise of the maruts.

आ ये तस्थुः पृषतीषु श्रुतासु सुखेषु रुद्रा मरुतो रथेषु । वना चिदुग्रा जिहते नि वो भिया पृथिवी चिद्रेजते पर्वतश्चित् ॥

ā ye tasthuḥ pṛṣatīṣu śrutāsu sukheṣu rudrā maruto ratheṣu | vanā cidugrā jihate ni vo bhiyā pṛthivī cidrejate parvataścit ||

Fierce Maruts, sons of Rudra, who ride in easy chariots (drawn by) celebrated steeds, (at your coming) the woods bow down with fear, the earth tremles, and the mountains (shake).

पर्वतश्चिन्महि वृद्धो बिभाय दिवश्चित्सानु रेजत स्वने वः । यत्क्रीऴथ मरुत ऋष्टिमन्त आप इव सध्र्यञ्चो धवध्वे ॥

parvataścinmahi vṛddho bibhāya divaścitsānu rejata svane vaḥ | yatkrīḻatha maruta ṛṣṭimanta āpa iva sadhryañco dhavadhve ||

The mountain, vast and lofty (though it be), is alarmed at your noise, and the summit of the firmament trembles when, lance-armed Maruts, you are sporting; you rush along together like waters.

वरा इवेद्रैवतासो हिरण्यैरभि स्वधाभिस्तन्वः पिपिश्रे । श्रिये श्रेयांसस्तवसो रथेषु सत्रा महांसि चक्रिरे तनूषु ॥

varā ivedraivatāso hiraṇyairabhi svadhābhistanvaḥ pipiśre | śriye śreyāṃsastavaso ratheṣu satrā mahāṃsi cakrire tanūṣu ||

Like wealthy bridegrooms who have decorated their person ns with golden (ornaments) and purifying waters, so the noble and powerful Maruts, associated together in their chariots, have made great (preparation) in their several person ns for their embellishment.

अज्येष्ठासो अकनिष्ठास एते सं भ्रातरो वावृधुः सौभगाय । युवा पिता स्वपा रुद्र एषां सुदुघा पृश्निः सुदिना मरुद्भ्यः ॥

ajyeṣṭhāso akaniṣṭhāsa ete saṃ bhrātaro vāvṛdhuḥ saubhagāya | yuvā pitā svapā rudra eṣāṃ sudughā pṛśniḥ sudinā marudbhyaḥ ||

They are brothers, of whom no one is the elder, no one the younger, but who grew up together for their mutual prosperity; may their father, Rudra, ever youthful, the doer of good deeds, and Pṛṣṇi, (their mother), easy to be milked, grant favourable days for (the sake of) the Maruts.

यदुत्तमे मरुतो मध्यमे वा यद्वावमे सुभगासो दिवि ष्ठ । अतो नो रुद्रा उत वा न्वस्याग्ने वित्ताद्धविषो यद्यजाम ॥

yaduttame maruto madhyame vā yadvāvame subhagāso divi ṣṭha | ato no rudrā uta vā nvasyāgne vittāddhaviṣo yadyajāma ||

Auspicious Maruts, whether you abide in the upper, the middle, or \the lower heaven, (come), Rudras, to us from thence; and do you, Agni, accept the oblation which this day we offer.

अग्निश्च यन्मरुतो विश्ववेदसो दिवो वहध्व उत्तरादधि ष्णुभिः । ते मन्दसाना धुनयो रिशादसो वामं धत्त यजमानाय सुन्वते ॥

agniśca yanmaruto viśvavedaso divo vahadhva uttarādadhi ṣṇubhiḥ | te mandasānā dhunayo riśādaso vāmaṃ dhatta yajamānāya sunvate ||

Maruts, who are omniscient, since you and Agni abide above the summits of the upper (region) of the sky, do you who cause (your enemies) to tremble, and are the consumers of (our) foes, do you, being plural ased, bestow upon the sacrificer who offers you oblations desirable wealth.

अग्ने मरुद्भिः शुभयद्भिॠक्वभिः सोमं पिब मन्दसानो गणश्रिभिः । पावकेभिर्विश्वमिन्वेभिरायुभिर्वैश्वानर प्रदिवा केतुना सजूः ॥

agne marudbhiḥ śubhayadbhiṝkvabhiḥ somaṃ piba mandasāno gaṇaśribhiḥ | pāvakebhirviśvaminvebhirāyubhirvaiśvānara pradivā ketunā sajūḥ ||

Agni, drink the Soma-juice, rejoicing, along with the Maruts, resplendent, adorable, associated in troops, purifying all, animating and long-lived; drink, Vaiśvānara, who are identified with the ancient emblem (of flame).
