[rv-5-56] • 9 श्लोकाः

अग्ने शर्धन्तमा गणं पिष्टं रुक्मेभिरञ्जिभिः । विशो अद्य मरुतामव ह्वये दिवश्चिद्रोचनादधि ॥

agne śardhantamā gaṇaṃ piṣṭaṃ rukmebhirañjibhiḥ | viśo adya marutāmava hvaye divaścidrocanādadhi ||

I invoke, Agni, the victorious company (of the Maruts) decorated with brilliant ornaments; (I invoke them), the people of the Maruts, to descend today from above the shining heaven.

यथा चिन्मन्यसे हृदा तदिन्मे जग्मुराशसः । ये ते नेदिष्ठं हवनान्यागमन्तान्वर्ध भीमसंदृशः ॥

yathā cinmanyase hṛdā tadinme jagmurāśasaḥ | ye te nediṣṭhaṃ havanānyāgamantānvardha bhīmasaṃdṛśaḥ ||

In whatever manner you honour the (Maruts, Agni) in your heart, may they come to me as benefactors; gratify, (by oblations), those fierce-looking Maruts, who most promptly come to your invocations.

मीऴ्हुष्मतीव पृथिवी पराहता मदन्त्येत्यस्मदा । ऋक्षो न वो मरुतः शिमीवाँ अमो दुध्रो गौरिव भीमयुः ॥

mīḻhuṣmatīva pṛthivī parāhatā madantyetyasmadā | ṛkṣo na vo marutaḥ śimīvā~ amo dudhro gauriva bhīmayuḥ ||

As the (people of the) earth having a powerful lord have recourse to him when oppressed (by others), so comes (the host of the Maruts) exulting to us; your company, Maruts, active as fire, is as difficult to be resisted as a formidable ox.

नि ये रिणन्त्योजसा वृथा गावो न दुर्धुरः । अश्मानं चित्स्वर्यं पर्वतं गिरिं प्र च्यावयन्ति यामभिः ॥

ni ye riṇantyojasā vṛthā gāvo na durdhuraḥ | aśmānaṃ citsvaryaṃ parvataṃ giriṃ pra cyāvayanti yāmabhiḥ ||

They who with ease destroy (their foes) by their prowess, like horses difficult to be restrained, they send down by their movements the vast and sounding water-laden cloud.

उत्तिष्ठ नूनमेषां स्तोमैः समुक्षितानाम् । मरुतां पुरुतममपूर्व्यं गवां सर्गमिव ह्वये ॥

uttiṣṭha nūnameṣāṃ stomaiḥ samukṣitānām | marutāṃ purutamamapūrvyaṃ gavāṃ sargamiva hvaye ||

Rise up (Maruts); verily by my praises I invoke the mighty and unpreceded (troop) of these exalted (maruts) like a heap of waters.

युङ्ग्ध्वं ह्यरुषी रथे युङ्ग्ध्वं रथेषु रोहितः । युङ्ग्ध्वं हरी अजिरा धुरि वोऴ्हवे वहिष्ठा धुरि वोऴ्हवे ॥

yuṅgdhvaṃ hyaruṣī rathe yuṅgdhvaṃ ratheṣu rohitaḥ | yuṅgdhvaṃ harī ajirā dhuri voḻhave vahiṣṭhā dhuri voḻhave ||

Yoke the bright steeds to the car, yoke the red steeds to the cars; yoke the swift pair of horses to bear the burden; the strong bearing to bear the burden.

उत स्य वाज्यरुषस्तुविष्वणिरिह स्म धायि दर्शतः । मा वो यामेषु मरुतश्चिरं करत्प्र तं रथेषु चोदत ॥

uta sya vājyaruṣastuviṣvaṇiriha sma dhāyi darśataḥ | mā vo yāmeṣu marutaściraṃ karatpra taṃ ratheṣu codata ||

And let not that horse, bright-shining, loud-neighing, of graceful form, who has been plural ced (in harness), delay you, Maruts, on your journey; urge him on in the car.

रथं नु मारुतं वयं श्रवस्युमा हुवामहे । आ यस्मिन्तस्थौ सुरणानि बिभ्रती सचा मरुत्सु रोदसी ॥

rathaṃ nu mārutaṃ vayaṃ śravasyumā huvāmahe | ā yasmintasthau suraṇāni bibhratī sacā marutsu rodasī ||

We invoke the food-laden chariot of the Maruts, in which Rodasi stood with the Maruts, bearing the delicious (waters).

तं वः शर्धं रथेशुभं त्वेषं पनस्युमा हुवे । यस्मिन्त्सुजाता सुभगा महीयते सचा मरुत्सु मीऴ्हुषी ॥

taṃ vaḥ śardhaṃ ratheśubhaṃ tveṣaṃ panasyumā huve | yasmintsujātā subhagā mahīyate sacā marutsu mīḻhuṣī ||

I invoke that, your cohort, gracing the chariot, brilliant and adorable, amidst which the rain-bestowing (goddess), of goodly origin and auspicious, is worshipped together with the Maruts.
