[rv-5-46] • 8 श्लोकाः

हयो न विद्वाँ अयुजि स्वयं धुरि तां वहामि प्रतरणीमवस्युवम् । नास्या वश्मि विमुचं नावृतं पुनर्विद्वान्पथः पुरएत ऋजु नेषति ॥

hayo na vidvā~ ayuji svayaṃ dhuri tāṃ vahāmi prataraṇīmavasyuvam | nāsyā vaśmi vimucaṃ nāvṛtaṃ punarvidvānpathaḥ puraeta ṛju neṣati ||

The sage, (Pratikṣatra), has, of his own accord, attached himself to the burden (of sacrifice), like a horse (to a chariot); I support that transcendent and preservative load; I do not desire release from it, nor yet its reiterated imposition; the sage, going first, conducts (men) by the right path.

अग्न इन्द्र वरुण मित्र देवाः शर्धः प्र यन्त मारुतोत विष्णो । उभा नासत्या रुद्रो अध ग्नाः पूषा भगः सरस्वती जुषन्त ॥

agna indra varuṇa mitra devāḥ śardhaḥ pra yanta mārutota viṣṇo | ubhā nāsatyā rudro adha gnāḥ pūṣā bhagaḥ sarasvatī juṣanta ||

Agni, Indra, Varuṇa, Mitra, gods, confer (upon us) strength; or, company of the Maruts, or Viṣṇu, (bestow it); and may both the Nāsatyas, Rudra, the wives of the gods, Pūṣan, Bhaga, Sarasvatī, be plural ased (by our adoration).

इन्द्राग्नी मित्रावरुणादितिं स्वः पृथिवीं द्यां मरुतः पर्वताँ अपः । हुवे विष्णुं पूषणं ब्रह्मणस्पतिं भगं नु शंसं सवितारमूतये ॥

indrāgnī mitrāvaruṇāditiṃ svaḥ pṛthivīṃ dyāṃ marutaḥ parvatā~ apaḥ | huve viṣṇuṃ pūṣaṇaṃ brahmaṇaspatiṃ bhagaṃ nu śaṃsaṃ savitāramūtaye ||

I invoke for protection Indra and Agni, Mitra and Varuṇa, Aditi, Svar, Earth, Heaven, the Maruts, the clouds, the waters, Viṣṇu, Pūṣaṇ, Brahmaṇaspati and Savitā.

उत नो विष्णुरुत वातो अस्रिधो द्रविणोदा उत सोमो मयस्करत् । उत ऋभव उत राये नो अश्विनोत त्वष्टोत विभ्वानु मंसते ॥

uta no viṣṇuruta vāto asridho draviṇodā uta somo mayaskarat | uta ṛbhava uta rāye no aśvinota tvaṣṭota vibhvānu maṃsate ||

Or may Viṣṇu grant us felicity, or the innoxious wind, or Soma the bestower of riches; or may the Ṛbhus, the Aśvins, Tvaṣṭā, or Vibhvan be favourably disposed to our enrichment.

उत त्यन्नो मारुतं शर्ध आ गमद्दिविक्षयं यजतं बर्हिरासदे । बृहस्पतिः शर्म पूषोत नो यमद्वरूथ्यं वरुणो मित्रो अर्यमा ॥

uta tyanno mārutaṃ śardha ā gamaddivikṣayaṃ yajataṃ barhirāsade | bṛhaspatiḥ śarma pūṣota no yamadvarūthyaṃ varuṇo mitro aryamā ||

Or may the adorable, heaven-abiding company of the Maruts, come to us to take their seats on the sacred grass; or may Bṛhaspati, Pūṣaṇ, Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman, bestow upon us domestic happiness.

उत त्ये नः पर्वतासः सुशस्तयः सुदीतयो नद्यस्त्रामणे भुवन् । भगो विभक्ता शवसावसा गमदुरुव्यचा अदितिः श्रोतु मे हवम् ॥

uta tye naḥ parvatāsaḥ suśastayaḥ sudītayo nadyastrāmaṇe bhuvan | bhago vibhaktā śavasāvasā gamaduruvyacā aditiḥ śrotu me havam ||

Or may the glorious mountains, the beneficient rivers, be to us for our preservation; may Bhaga, the apportioner of wealth, come with abundance and protection; may this wide-pervading Aditi hear my invocation.

देवानां पत्नीरुशतीरवन्तु नः प्रावन्तु नस्तुजये वाजसातये । याः पार्थिवासो या अपामपि व्रते ता नो देवीः सुहवाः शर्म यच्छत ॥

devānāṃ patnīruśatīravantu naḥ prāvantu nastujaye vājasātaye | yāḥ pārthivāso yā apāmapi vrate tā no devīḥ suhavāḥ śarma yacchata ||

May the wives of the gods, desiring (our homage), defend us; may they so protect us that (we may obtain) vigorous (offspring) and abundant food; whether terrestrial, or those in charge of the waters (in the firmament), do you, goddesses, earnestly invoked, bestow upon us felicity.

उत ग्ना व्यन्तु देवपत्नीरिन्द्राण्यग्नाय्यश्विनी राट् । आ रोदसी वरुणानी शृणोतु व्यन्तु देवीर्य ऋतुर्जनीनाम् ॥

uta gnā vyantu devapatnīrindrāṇyagnāyyaśvinī rāṭ | ā rodasī varuṇānī śṛṇotu vyantu devīrya ṛturjanīnām ||

Or may the goddesses, the wives of the gods, accept (the offering); Indrāṇī, Agnāyī, the radiant Aśvinī Rodasi, Varuṇāni, may each hear (our prayer); may the goddesses partake (of the oblation); may the (person nified) season of the wives of the gods, accept it.
