[rv-5-42] • 18 श्लोकाः

प्र शंतमा वरुणं दीधिती गीर्मित्रं भगमदितिं नूनमश्याः । पृषद्योनिः पञ्चहोता शृणोत्वतूर्तपन्था असुरो मयोभुः ॥

pra śaṃtamā varuṇaṃ dīdhitī gīrmitraṃ bhagamaditiṃ nūnamaśyāḥ | pṛṣadyoniḥ pañcahotā śṛṇotvatūrtapanthā asuro mayobhuḥ ||

May our most animating praise, together with our offerings, successfully attain Varuṇa, Mitra, Bhaga and Aditi; may the ministrant of the five (vital airs, Vāyu), the dweller in the dappled (firmament), he whose path is unimpeded, who is the giver of life, the bestower of happiness, hear.

प्रति मे स्तोममदितिर्जगृभ्यात्सूनुं न माता हृद्यं सुशेवम् । ब्रह्म प्रियं देवहितं यदस्त्यहं मित्रे वरुणे यन्मयोभु ॥

prati me stomamaditirjagṛbhyātsūnuṃ na mātā hṛdyaṃ suśevam | brahma priyaṃ devahitaṃ yadastyahaṃ mitre varuṇe yanmayobhu ||

May Aditi accept my affectionate and devoted praise, as a mother (the endearments of) a son; the plural asing, delightful prayer that is approved of by the gods I address to Varuṇa and Mitra.

उदीरय कवितमं कवीनामुनत्तैनमभि मध्वा घृतेन । स नो वसूनि प्रयता हितानि चन्द्राणि देवः सविता सुवाति ॥

udīraya kavitamaṃ kavīnāmunattainamabhi madhvā ghṛtena | sa no vasūni prayatā hitāni candrāṇi devaḥ savitā suvāti ||

Celebrate, (priests), the most prophetic of the prophets; imbue him with the sweet libation, and may the divine Savitā bestow upon us ample, beneficial and delightful riches.

समिन्द्र णो मनसा नेषि गोभिः सं सूरिभिर्हरिवः सं स्वस्ति । सं ब्रह्मणा देवहितं यदस्ति सं देवानां सुमत्या यज्ञियानाम् ॥

samindra ṇo manasā neṣi gobhiḥ saṃ sūribhirharivaḥ saṃ svasti | saṃ brahmaṇā devahitaṃ yadasti saṃ devānāṃ sumatyā yajñiyānām ||

With a (willing) mind, Indra, you associate us with cattle, with pious (priests) and, lord of steeds, with prosperity, with (sacrificial) food that is agreeable to the gods, and with the favour of the adorable deities.

देवो भगः सविता रायो अंश इन्द्रो वृत्रस्य संजितो धनानाम् । ऋभुक्षा वाज उत वा पुरंधिरवन्तु नो अमृतासस्तुरासः ॥

devo bhagaḥ savitā rāyo aṃśa indro vṛtrasya saṃjito dhanānām | ṛbhukṣā vāja uta vā puraṃdhiravantu no amṛtāsasturāsaḥ ||

May the divine Bhaga, Savitā, the lord of wealth, Aṃśa, Indra (the slayer) of Vṛtra, (all) the conquerors of riches, Ṛbhukṣin, Vāja and also Purandhi, immortals, hastening (to our sacrifice) preserve us.

मरुत्वतो अप्रतीतस्य जिष्णोरजूर्यतः प्र ब्रवामा कृतानि । न ते पूर्वे मघवन्नापरासो न वीर्यं नूतनः कश्चनाप ॥

marutvato apratītasya jiṣṇorajūryataḥ pra bravāmā kṛtāni | na te pūrve maghavannāparāso na vīryaṃ nūtanaḥ kaścanāpa ||

We celebrate the exploits of Marutvat, the unrecoiling, the victorious, the undecaying; neither the ancients, Maghavan, nor their successors, have attained your prowess, nor has any one recent attained it.

उप स्तुहि प्रथमं रत्नधेयं बृहस्पतिं सनितारं धनानाम् । यः शंसते स्तुवते शम्भविष्ठः पुरूवसुरागमज्जोहुवानम् ॥

upa stuhi prathamaṃ ratnadheyaṃ bṛhaspatiṃ sanitāraṃ dhanānām | yaḥ śaṃsate stuvate śambhaviṣṭhaḥ purūvasurāgamajjohuvānam ||

Glorify the first donor of precious treasure, Bṛhaspati, the distributor of riches, the bestower of great happiness upon him who recites or chants (his praise), who comes laden with ample wealth to his invoker.

तवोतिभिः सचमाना अरिष्टा बृहस्पते मघवानः सुवीराः । ये अश्वदा उत वा सन्ति गोदा ये वस्त्रदाः सुभगास्तेषु रायः ॥

tavotibhiḥ sacamānā ariṣṭā bṛhaspate maghavānaḥ suvīrāḥ | ye aśvadā uta vā santi godā ye vastradāḥ subhagāsteṣu rāyaḥ ||

Associated, Bṛhaspati, with your protections, (men) are unharmed (by foes), and become opulent and blessed with descendants; may wealth devolve on those who are genitive rous, and givers of horses, of cows, of clothes.

विसर्माणं कृणुहि वित्तमेषां ये भुञ्जते अपृणन्तो न उक्थैः । अपव्रतान्प्रसवे वावृधानान्ब्रह्मद्विषः सूर्याद्यावयस्व ॥

visarmāṇaṃ kṛṇuhi vittameṣāṃ ye bhuñjate apṛṇanto na ukthaiḥ | apavratānprasave vāvṛdhānānbrahmadviṣaḥ sūryādyāvayasva ||

Render transitory the riches of those who partake of enjoyment without giving satisfaction (to those who are eminent) by holy hymns; put apart from the sun those who perform not sacred rites, and who, though prospering in their posterity, are the adversaries of prayer.

य ओहते रक्षसो देववीतावचक्रेभिस्तं मरुतो नि यात । यो वः शमीं शशमानस्य निन्दात्तुच्छ्यान्कामान्करते सिष्विदानः ॥

ya ohate rakṣaso devavītāvacakrebhistaṃ maruto ni yāta | yo vaḥ śamīṃ śaśamānasya nindāttucchyānkāmānkarate siṣvidānaḥ ||

Send, Maruts, into darkness with (cars) devoid of wheels, the man who invites the rākṣasas to the food of the gods; (him also) who reviles me when offering praise to you; while sweating, he toils (to realize) vain desires.

तमु ष्टुहि यः स्विषुः सुधन्वा यो विश्वस्य क्षयति भेषजस्य । यक्ष्वा महे सौमनसाय रुद्रं नमोभिर्देवमसुरं दुवस्य ॥

tamu ṣṭuhi yaḥ sviṣuḥ sudhanvā yo viśvasya kṣayati bheṣajasya | yakṣvā mahe saumanasāya rudraṃ namobhirdevamasuraṃ duvasya ||

Praise him who has the sure arrow, the strong bow, who presides over all sanitary drugs; worship Rudra for a comprehensive and sound understanding; adore the powerful divinity with prostrations.

दमूनसो अपसो ये सुहस्ता वृष्णः पत्नीर्नद्यो विभ्वतष्टाः । सरस्वती बृहद्दिवोत राका दशस्यन्तीर्वरिवस्यन्तु शुभ्राः ॥

damūnaso apaso ye suhastā vṛṣṇaḥ patnīrnadyo vibhvataṣṭāḥ | sarasvatī bṛhaddivota rākā daśasyantīrvarivasyantu śubhrāḥ ||

May the dexterous-handed, humble-minded artist (of the gods, the Ṛbhus); may the wives of the showerer (Indra); may the rivers carved out by Vibhu; may Sarasvatī and the brilliant Rākā, the illustrious granters of desires, be willing to grant us riches.

प्र सू महे सुशरणाय मेधां गिरं भरे नव्यसीं जायमानाम् । य आहना दुहितुर्वक्षणासु रूपा मिनानो अकृणोदिदं नः ॥

pra sū mahe suśaraṇāya medhāṃ giraṃ bhare navyasīṃ jāyamānām | ya āhanā duhiturvakṣaṇāsu rūpā mināno akṛṇodidaṃ naḥ ||

To the great protector, (Indra), I offer devout pious praise, new and originated (at this time); to him, the showerer, who, for his daughter (earth), giving form to the rivers, has provided this water for our (use).

प्र सुष्टुतिः स्तनयन्तं रुवन्तमिऴस्पतिं जरितर्नूनमश्याः । यो अब्दिमाँ उदनिमाँ इयर्ति प्र विद्युता रोदसी उक्षमाणः ॥

pra suṣṭutiḥ stanayantaṃ ruvantamiḻaspatiṃ jaritarnūnamaśyāḥ | yo abdimā~ udanimā~ iyarti pra vidyutā rodasī ukṣamāṇaḥ ||

May your pious praise, oḥ worshipper, assuredly reach the thundering, roaring lord of Iḷā, who, impelling the clouds and distributing the rain, proceeds, illuminating the heaven and earth with lightning.

एष स्तोमो मारुतं शर्धो अच्छा रुद्रस्य सूनूँर्युवन्यूँरुदश्याः । कामो राये हवते मा स्वस्त्युप स्तुहि पृषदश्वाँ अयासः ॥

eṣa stomo mārutaṃ śardho acchā rudrasya sūnū~ryuvanyū~rudaśyāḥ | kāmo rāye havate mā svastyupa stuhi pṛṣadaśvā~ ayāsaḥ ||

May this hymn reach up to the presence of the might of the Maruts the youthful sons of Rudra; the desire of riches incites me to holiness; glorify those who go to sacrifice on spotted steeds.

प्रैष स्तोमः पृथिवीमन्तरिक्षं वनस्पतीँरोषधी राये अश्याः । देवोदेवः सुहवो भूतु मह्यं मा नो माता पृथिवी दुर्मतौ धात् ॥

praiṣa stomaḥ pṛthivīmantarikṣaṃ vanaspatī~roṣadhī rāye aśyāḥ | devodevaḥ suhavo bhūtu mahyaṃ mā no mātā pṛthivī durmatau dhāt ||

उरौ देवा अनिबाधे स्याम ॥

urau devā anibādhe syāma ||

May we ever, gods, enjoy great and uninterrupted felicity.

समश्विनोरवसा नूतनेन मयोभुवा सुप्रणीती गमेम । आ नो रयिं वहतमोत वीराना विश्वान्यमृता सौभगानि ॥

samaśvinoravasā nūtanena mayobhuvā supraṇītī gamema | ā no rayiṃ vahatamota vīrānā viśvānyamṛtā saubhagāni ||

May we ever be participant of the unprecedented, joy-conferring and well-guided protection of the Aśvins; bring to us, immortal (Aśvins), riches, male progeny, and all good things.
