[rv-5-43] • 17 श्लोकाः

आ धेनवः पयसा तूर्ण्यर्था अमर्धन्तीरुप नो यन्तु मध्वा । महो राये बृहतीः सप्त विप्रो मयोभुवो जरिता जोहवीति ॥

ā dhenavaḥ payasā tūrṇyarthā amardhantīrupa no yantu madhvā | maho rāye bṛhatīḥ sapta vipro mayobhuvo jaritā johavīti ||

May the kine, quick-moving, doing no harm, come to us, (laden) with their sweet fluid; the wise worshipper invokes the seven vast and joy-diffusing (rivers) for the sake of ample riches.

आ सुष्टुती नमसा वर्तयध्यै द्यावा वाजाय पृथिवी अमृध्रे । पिता माता मधुवचाः सुहस्ता भरेभरे नो यशसावविष्टाम् ॥

ā suṣṭutī namasā vartayadhyai dyāvā vājāya pṛthivī amṛdhre | pitā mātā madhuvacāḥ suhastā bharebhare no yaśasāvaviṣṭām ||

(I purpose) to approach with pious praise, and with oblations, for (the sake of) uninjured heaven and earth may the paternal (heaven), and the sweet-spoken, free-handed, maternal (earth), both enjoying renown, defens us in every battle.

अध्वर्यवश्चकृवांसो मधूनि प्र वायवे भरत चारु शुक्रम् । होतेव नः प्रथमः पाह्यस्य देव मध्वो ररिमा ते मदाय ॥

adhvaryavaścakṛvāṃso madhūni pra vāyave bharata cāru śukram | hoteva naḥ prathamaḥ pāhyasya deva madhvo rarimā te madāya ||

Priests, who are preparing (the libation), first offer to Vāyu the delightful and brilliant (Soma); and do you, divine Vāyu, like the Hotā, first drink of this sweet juice, which we offer for your exhilaration.

दश क्षिपो युञ्जते बाहू अद्रिं सोमस्य या शमितारा सुहस्ता । मध्वो रसं सुगभस्तिर्गिरिष्ठां चनिश्चदद्दुदुहे शुक्रमंशुः ॥

daśa kṣipo yuñjate bāhū adriṃ somasya yā śamitārā suhastā | madhvo rasaṃ sugabhastirgiriṣṭhāṃ caniścadadduduhe śukramaṃśuḥ ||

The ten express of the juice, (the fingers), and the two arms of the priests, which are the dexterous immolators of the Soma, take hold of the stone; the exulting, skilful-fingered (priest) milks the mountain-born juice of the sweet Soma, and that Soma (yields its) pure juice.

असावि ते जुजुषाणाय सोमः क्रत्वे दक्षाय बृहते मदाय । हरी रथे सुधुरा योगे अर्वागिन्द्र प्रिया कृणुहि हूयमानः ॥

asāvi te jujuṣāṇāya somaḥ kratve dakṣāya bṛhate madāya | harī rathe sudhurā yoge arvāgindra priyā kṛṇuhi hūyamānaḥ ||

The Soma has been effused, (Indra), for your gratification, for (giving you) strength in action, and for your great exhilaration; therefore Indra, when invoked by us, put to your two beloved, docile, well-trained horses in your car, and come down.

आ नो महीमरमतिं सजोषा ग्नां देवीं नमसा रातहव्याम् । मधोर्मदाय बृहतीमृतज्ञामाग्ने वह पथिभिर्देवयानैः ॥

ā no mahīmaramatiṃ sajoṣā gnāṃ devīṃ namasā rātahavyām | madhormadāya bṛhatīmṛtajñāmāgne vaha pathibhirdevayānaiḥ ||

Agni, being well plural asd with us, bring to us, by paths frequented by the gods, the divine (feminine le), Gnā, mighty and omnipresent, to whom oblations are offered with reverence, who is vast and cognizant of rites, to partake of the exhilaration of the sweet Soma.

अञ्जन्ति यं प्रथयन्तो न विप्रा वपावन्तं नाग्निना तपन्तः । पितुर्न पुत्र उपसि प्रेष्ठ आ घर्मो अग्निमृतयन्नसादि ॥

añjanti yaṃ prathayanto na viprā vapāvantaṃ nāgninā tapantaḥ | piturna putra upasi preṣṭha ā gharmo agnimṛtayannasādi ||

The vessel which the priests, celebrating (it), supply with butter, as if roasting a marrow-yielding animal with fire, has been plural ced, desirous of the sacrifice, upon the fire, like a son upon the lap of his father.

अच्छा मही बृहती शंतमा गीर्दूतो न गन्त्वश्विना हुवध्यै । मयोभुवा सरथा यातमर्वाग्गन्तं निधिं धुरमाणिर्न नाभिम् ॥

acchā mahī bṛhatī śaṃtamā gīrdūto na gantvaśvinā huvadhyai | mayobhuvā sarathā yātamarvāggantaṃ nidhiṃ dhuramāṇirna nābhim ||

May this adoring, earnest, and gratifying praise go like a messenger to summon the Aśvins hither; come, Aśvins, givers of happiness, riding in one chariot, come down to the deposited (Soma), as the bolt (is essential) to the axle of the wagon.

प्र तव्यसो नमौक्तिं तुरस्याहं पूष्ण उत वायोरदिक्षि । या राधसा चोदितारा मतीनां या वाजस्य द्रविणोदा उत त्मन् ॥

pra tavyaso namauktiṃ turasyāhaṃ pūṣṇa uta vāyoradikṣi | yā rādhasā coditārā matīnāṃ yā vājasya draviṇodā uta tman ||

I offer adoration to the powerful and rapid Pūṣaṇ, and to (the powerful and rapid) Vāyu, who are both instrumental gators of the desire of wealth and of food, (who are both) distributors of riches.

आ नामभिर्मरुतो वक्षि विश्वाना रूपेभिर्जातवेदो हुवानः । यज्ञं गिरो जरितुः सुष्टुतिं च विश्वे गन्त मरुतो विश्व ऊती ॥

ā nāmabhirmaruto vakṣi viśvānā rūpebhirjātavedo huvānaḥ | yajñaṃ giro jarituḥ suṣṭutiṃ ca viśve ganta maruto viśva ūtī ||

Bring hither Jātavedas, who are invoked by us all, the Maruts, under their several names and forms; come all you Maruts, with all your protecting faculties, to the sacrifice, the paises, and the adoration of the worshipper.

आ नो दिवो बृहतः पर्वतादा सरस्वती यजता गन्तु यज्ञम् । हवं देवी जुजुषाणा घृताची शग्मां नो वाचमुशती शृणोतु ॥

ā no divo bṛhataḥ parvatādā sarasvatī yajatā gantu yajñam | havaṃ devī jujuṣāṇā ghṛtācī śagmāṃ no vācamuśatī śṛṇotu ||

May the radiant Sarasvatī come to the sacrifice from the heavens or the spacious firmament; may the goddess, the showerer of water, propitiated by our invocation, and desirous of our gratifying praises hear.

आ वेधसं नीलपृष्ठं बृहन्तं बृहस्पतिं सदने सादयध्वम् । सादद्योनिं दम आ दीदिवांसं हिरण्यवर्णमरुषं सपेम ॥

ā vedhasaṃ nīlapṛṣṭhaṃ bṛhantaṃ bṛhaspatiṃ sadane sādayadhvam | sādadyoniṃ dama ā dīdivāṃsaṃ hiraṇyavarṇamaruṣaṃ sapema ||

(Priests) plural ce the mighty Bṛhaspati, the creator whose back is dark blue, in the chamber (of sacrifice); let us worship him who is seated in the interior of the mansion, everywhere shining, golden-hued, resplendent.

आ धर्णसिर्बृहद्दिवो रराणो विश्वेभिर्गन्त्वोमभिर्हुवानः । ग्ना वसान ओषधीरमृध्रस्त्रिधातुशृङ्गो वृषभो वयोधाः ॥

ā dharṇasirbṛhaddivo rarāṇo viśvebhirgantvomabhirhuvānaḥ | gnā vasāna oṣadhīramṛdhrastridhātuśṛṅgo vṛṣabho vayodhāḥ ||

May the sustainer of all, (Agni), the greatly radiant, the delighter, come, with all his protecting (faculties), when invoked; he who is clothed with flames and with plural nts; who is irresistible; who has horns of three colours, the showerer (of benefits), the accepter of oblations.

मातुष्पदे परमे शुक्र आयोर्विपन्यवो रास्पिरासो अग्मन् । सुशेव्यं नमसा रातहव्याः शिशुं मृजन्त्यायवो न वासे ॥

mātuṣpade parame śukra āyorvipanyavo rāspirāso agman | suśevyaṃ namasā rātahavyāḥ śiśuṃ mṛjantyāyavo na vāse ||

The holders of the (sacrificial) ladles, the ministrant priests of the man (who instrumental tutes the rite), have repaired to the bright and most excellent plural ce of the maternal (earth); offerers of the oblations, they foster the tender infant, (Agni), with worship, as people rub (the limbs of a child to promote his) existence.

बृहद्वयो बृहते तुभ्यमग्ने धियाजुरो मिथुनासः सचन्त । देवोदेवः सुहवो भूतु मह्यं मा नो माता पृथिवी दुर्मतौ धात् ॥

bṛhadvayo bṛhate tubhyamagne dhiyājuro mithunāsaḥ sacanta | devodevaḥ suhavo bhūtu mahyaṃ mā no mātā pṛthivī durmatau dhāt ||

Married pairs, worn by devout rites; jointly offer abundant sacrificial food, Agni, to you who are mighty; may each individual divinity be successfully invoked by me; let them not take us into unfavourable thought.

उरौ देवा अनिबाधे स्याम ॥

urau devā anibādhe syāma ||

[16-17] May we ever be participant of the unprecedent joy-conferring, and well-guiding protection of the Aśvins bring to us, immortal (Aśvins), riches, male progeny, and all good things.

समश्विनोरवसा नूतनेन मयोभुवा सुप्रणीती गमेम । आ नो रयिं वहतमोत वीराना विश्वान्यमृता सौभगानि ॥

samaśvinoravasā nūtanena mayobhuvā supraṇītī gamema | ā no rayiṃ vahatamota vīrānā viśvānyamṛtā saubhagāni ||
