[rv-5-32] • 12 श्लोकाः

अदर्दरुत्समसृजो वि खानि त्वमर्णवान्बद्बधानाँ अरम्णाः । महान्तमिन्द्र पर्वतं वि यद्वः सृजो वि धारा अव दानवं हन् ॥

adardarutsamasṛjo vi khāni tvamarṇavānbadbadhānā~ aramṇāḥ | mahāntamindra parvataṃ vi yadvaḥ sṛjo vi dhārā ava dānavaṃ han ||

You, Indra, have rent the cloud asunder, you have set open the flood-gates, you have liberated the obstructed streams, you have opened the vast cloud, and have given vent to the showers, having slain the Dānava.

त्वमुत्साँ ऋतुभिर्बद्बधानाँ अरंह ऊधः पर्वतस्य वज्रिन् । अहिं चिदुग्र प्रयुतं शयानं जघन्वाँ इन्द्र तविषीमधत्थाः ॥

tvamutsā~ ṛtubhirbadbadhānā~ araṃha ūdhaḥ parvatasya vajrin | ahiṃ cidugra prayutaṃ śayānaṃ jaghanvā~ indra taviṣīmadhatthāḥ ||

You, thunder, (have set free) the obstructed clouds in their seasons; you have invigorated the strength of the cloud; fierce Indra, destroying the mighty Ahi when slumbering (in the waters), you have established the reputation of your prowess.

त्यस्य चिन्महतो निर्मृगस्य वधर्जघान तविषीभिरिन्द्रः । य एक इदप्रतिर्मन्यमान आदस्मादन्यो अजनिष्ट तव्यान् ॥

tyasya cinmahato nirmṛgasya vadharjaghāna taviṣībhirindraḥ | ya eka idapratirmanyamāna ādasmādanyo ajaniṣṭa tavyān ||

Indra, by his prowess, has annihilated the weapon of that mighty beast, from whom another more powerful conceiving himself one and unmatched was genitive rated.

त्यं चिदेषां स्वधया मदन्तं मिहो नपातं सुवृधं तमोगाम् । वृषप्रभर्मा दानवस्य भामं वज्रेण वज्री नि जघान शुष्णम् ॥

tyaṃ cideṣāṃ svadhayā madantaṃ miho napātaṃ suvṛdhaṃ tamogām | vṛṣaprabharmā dānavasya bhāmaṃ vajreṇa vajrī ni jaghāna śuṣṇam ||

The wielder of the thunderbolt, the render of the rain-cloud, has destroyed with his bolt the mighty Śuṣṇa, the wrath-born (son) of the Dānava, the walker in darkness, the protector of there showering cloud, exhilarating himself with the food of these (living creatures).

त्यं चिदस्य क्रतुभिर्निषत्तममर्मणो विददिदस्य मर्म । यदीं सुक्षत्र प्रभृता मदस्य युयुत्सन्तं तमसि हर्म्ये धाः ॥

tyaṃ cidasya kratubhirniṣattamamarmaṇo vidadidasya marma | yadīṃ sukṣatra prabhṛtā madasya yuyutsantaṃ tamasi harmye dhāḥ ||

You have discovered, Indra, by his acts, the secret vital part of him who thought himself invulnerable, when, powerful Indra, in the exhilaration of the Soma, they have detected him preparing for combat in his dark abode.

त्यं चिदित्था कत्पयं शयानमसूर्ये तमसि वावृधानम् । तं चिन्मन्दानो वृषभः सुतस्योच्चैरिन्द्रो अपगूर्या जघान ॥

tyaṃ ciditthā katpayaṃ śayānamasūrye tamasi vāvṛdhānam | taṃ cinmandāno vṛṣabhaḥ sutasyoccairindro apagūryā jaghāna ||

Indra, the showerer (of benefits) exhilarated by the effused juices, uplifting (his thunderbolt), has slain him enjoying the dews of the firmament, sleeping (amidst the waters), and thriving in sunless darkness.

उद्यदिन्द्रो महते दानवाय वधर्यमिष्ट सहो अप्रतीतम् । यदीं वज्रस्य प्रभृतौ ददाभ विश्वस्य जन्तोरधमं चकार ॥

udyadindro mahate dānavāya vadharyamiṣṭa saho apratītam | yadīṃ vajrasya prabhṛtau dadābha viśvasya jantoradhamaṃ cakāra ||

When Indra raised his powerful irresistible weapon against the mighty Dānava, when he struck him with the blow of the thunderbolt, he made him the lowest of all creatures.

त्यं चिदर्णं मधुपं शयानमसिन्वं वव्रं मह्याददुग्रः । अपादमत्रं महता वधेन नि दुर्योण आवृणङ्मृध्रवाचम् ॥

tyaṃ cidarṇaṃ madhupaṃ śayānamasinvaṃ vavraṃ mahyādadugraḥ | apādamatraṃ mahatā vadhena ni duryoṇa āvṛṇaṅmṛdhravācam ||

The fierce Indra seized upon him, that vast moving (Vṛtra), when slumbering, (after) having drunk the Soma, subduing (his foes), and enveloping (the world), and then slew him with his great weapons in battle, footless, measureless, speechless.

को अस्य शुष्मं तविषीं वरात एको धना भरते अप्रतीतः । इमे चिदस्य ज्रयसो नु देवी इन्द्रस्यौजसो भियसा जिहाते ॥

ko asya śuṣmaṃ taviṣīṃ varāta eko dhanā bharate apratītaḥ | ime cidasya jrayaso nu devī indrasyaujaso bhiyasā jihāte ||

Who may resist the withering might of that Indra; he, single and irresistible, carries off the riches (of the enemy); these two divine (beings, heaven and earth), proceed swiftly through fear of the strength of the quick-moving Indra.

न्यस्मै देवी स्वधितिर्जिहीत इन्द्राय गातुरुशतीव येमे । सं यदोजो युवते विश्वमाभिरनु स्वधाव्ने क्षितयो नमन्त ॥

nyasmai devī svadhitirjihīta indrāya gāturuśatīva yeme | saṃ yadojo yuvate viśvamābhiranu svadhāvne kṣitayo namanta ||

The divine, self-sustaining (heaven) comes to him; the moving (earth), like a loving (wife), resigns herself to Indra; when he shares all his vigour with these (his people), then, in due succession, men offer reverence to the potent Indra.

एकं नु त्वा सत्पतिं पाञ्चजन्यं जातं शृणोमि यशसं जनेषु । तं मे जगृभ्र आशसो नविष्ठं दोषा वस्तोर्हवमानास इन्द्रम् ॥

ekaṃ nu tvā satpatiṃ pāñcajanyaṃ jātaṃ śṛṇomi yaśasaṃ janeṣu | taṃ me jagṛbhra āśaso naviṣṭhaṃ doṣā vastorhavamānāsa indram ||

Verily I hear you as chief among men, the protector of the good, friendly to the five classes of beings, the begotten, the renowned; may my (progeny), representing (their wishes), and uttering, his praises night and day, propitiates the glorified Indra.

एवा हि त्वामृतुथा यातयन्तं मघा विप्रेभ्यो ददतं शृणोमि । किं ते ब्रह्माणो गृहते सखायो ये त्वाया निदधुः काममिन्द्र ॥

evā hi tvāmṛtuthā yātayantaṃ maghā viprebhyo dadataṃ śṛṇomi | kiṃ te brahmāṇo gṛhate sakhāyo ye tvāyā nidadhuḥ kāmamindra ||

I hear of you influencing (creatures) according to the season, and giving riches to the pious; but what do your devoted friends (obtain), who have entrusted their desires, Indra, to you.
