[rv-4-50] • 11 श्लोकाः

यस्तस्तम्भ सहसा वि ज्मो अन्तान्बृहस्पतिस्त्रिषधस्थो रवेण । तं प्रत्नास ऋषयो दीध्यानाः पुरो विप्रा दधिरे मन्द्रजिह्वम् ॥

yastastambha sahasā vi jmo antānbṛhaspatistriṣadhastho raveṇa | taṃ pratnāsa ṛṣayo dīdhyānāḥ puro viprā dadhire mandrajihvam ||

The ancient sages, illustrious, intelligent, have plural ced before (them) the plural asing-tongued Bṛhaspati, who propped up by (his) strength the ends of the earth, and who abides with noise in the three regions.

धुनेतयः सुप्रकेतं मदन्तो बृहस्पते अभि ये नस्ततस्रे । पृषन्तं सृप्रमदब्धमूर्वं बृहस्पते रक्षतादस्य योनिम् ॥

dhunetayaḥ supraketaṃ madanto bṛhaspate abhi ye nastatasre | pṛṣantaṃ sṛpramadabdhamūrvaṃ bṛhaspate rakṣatādasya yonim ||

Bṛhaspati, protect the fruit-yielding, progressive, uninjured ample sacrifice of this (your worshipp0er, at which) they who are the terrifiers (of foes), the delighters of you who are possessed of great wisdom, glorify (you) in our behalf.

बृहस्पते या परमा परावदत आ त ऋतस्पृशो नि षेदुः । तुभ्यं खाता अवता अद्रिदुग्धा मध्वः श्चोतन्त्यभितो विरप्शम् ॥

bṛhaspate yā paramā parāvadata ā ta ṛtaspṛśo ni ṣeduḥ | tubhyaṃ khātā avatā adridugdhā madhvaḥ ścotantyabhito virapśam ||

Those (steeds), Bṛhaspati, which had come from that distant (region), the best (of all), have sat down in connection with the ceremony, and to you the Soma juices expressed by the stones flow copiously, (accompanied) by the sounds of praise, like deep wells that supply water.

बृहस्पतिः प्रथमं जायमानो महो ज्योतिषः परमे व्योमन् । सप्तास्यस्तुविजातो रवेण वि सप्तरश्मिरधमत्तमांसि ॥

bṛhaspatiḥ prathamaṃ jāyamāno maho jyotiṣaḥ parame vyoman | saptāsyastuvijāto raveṇa vi saptaraśmiradhamattamāṃsi ||

Bṛhaspati, when first being born in the highest heaven of supreme light, seven-mouthed, multiform, (combined) with sound, and seven-rayed, has subdued the darkness.

स सुष्टुभा स ऋक्वता गणेन वलं रुरोज फलिगं रवेण । बृहस्पतिरुस्रिया हव्यसूदः कनिक्रदद्वावशतीरुदाजत् ॥

sa suṣṭubhā sa ṛkvatā gaṇena valaṃ ruroja phaligaṃ raveṇa | bṛhaspatirusriyā havyasūdaḥ kanikradadvāvaśatīrudājat ||

(Aided) by the praised and brilliant troop (of the Aṅgirasas), he destroyed with sound the mischievous Bala, Bṛhaspati, shouting aloud, set free the boon-bestowing, oblation-supplying kine.

एवा पित्रे विश्वदेवाय वृष्णे यज्ञैर्विधेम नमसा हविर्भिः । बृहस्पते सुप्रजा वीरवन्तो वयं स्याम पतयो रयीणाम् ॥

evā pitre viśvadevāya vṛṣṇe yajñairvidhema namasā havirbhiḥ | bṛhaspate suprajā vīravanto vayaṃ syāma patayo rayīṇām ||

Thus may we offer worship with sacrifices, with oblations, with praise, to the paternal, universal deity, the showerer (of benefits); and may we, Bṛhaspati, become possessed of riches, and be blessed with excellent progeny and valiant descendants.

स इद्राजा प्रतिजन्यानि विश्वा शुष्मेण तस्थावभि वीर्येण । बृहस्पतिं यः सुभृतं बिभर्ति वल्गूयति वन्दते पूर्वभाजम् ॥

sa idrājā pratijanyāni viśvā śuṣmeṇa tasthāvabhi vīryeṇa | bṛhaspatiṃ yaḥ subhṛtaṃ bibharti valgūyati vandate pūrvabhājam ||

That prince overcomes by his strength and prowess, all hostile people, who cherishes liberally Bṛhaspati, and glorifies and honours him as the first sharer (of the offering).

स इत्क्षेति सुधित ओकसि स्वे तस्मा इऴा पिन्वते विश्वदानीम् । तस्मै विशः स्वयमेवा नमन्ते यस्मिन्ब्रह्मा राजनि पूर्व एति ॥

sa itkṣeti sudhita okasi sve tasmā iḻā pinvate viśvadānīm | tasmai viśaḥ svayamevā namante yasminbrahmā rājani pūrva eti ||

Verily he abides prosperous in his own abode; for him the earth bears fruit at all seasons; to him (his) subjects willingly pay homage, the prince, to whom the Brāhmaṇa first, (duly reverenced), repairs.

अप्रतीतो जयति सं धनानि प्रतिजन्यान्युत या सजन्या । अवस्यवे यो वरिवः कृणोति ब्रह्मणे राजा तमवन्ति देवाः ॥

apratīto jayati saṃ dhanāni pratijanyānyuta yā sajanyā | avasyave yo varivaḥ kṛṇoti brahmaṇe rājā tamavanti devāḥ ||

Unopposed he is the master of the riches of hostile people, and of his own subjects; the Rājā who bestows riches upon the Brāhmaṇa seeking his protection him the gods protect.

इन्द्रश्च सोमं पिबतं बृहस्पतेऽस्मिन्यज्ञे मन्दसाना वृषण्वसू । आ वां विशन्त्विन्दवः स्वाभुवोऽस्मे रयिं सर्ववीरं नि यच्छतम् ॥

indraśca somaṃ pibataṃ bṛhaspate'sminyajñe mandasānā vṛṣaṇvasū | ā vāṃ viśantvindavaḥ svābhuvo'sme rayiṃ sarvavīraṃ ni yacchatam ||

Bṛhaspati, do you and Indra, both exulting and showering riches, drink the Soma at this sacrifice; may the all-pervading drops enter you; bestow upon us riches, comprising all male descendants.

बृहस्पत इन्द्र वर्धतं नः सचा सा वां सुमतिर्भूत्वस्मे । अविष्टं धियो जिगृतं पुरंधीर्जजस्तमर्यो वनुषामरातीः ॥

bṛhaspata indra vardhataṃ naḥ sacā sā vāṃ sumatirbhūtvasme | aviṣṭaṃ dhiyo jigṛtaṃ puraṃdhīrjajastamaryo vanuṣāmarātīḥ ||

Bṛhaspati, Indra, elevate us; may the favourable disposition of you both be combined for us; protect our rites; be awake to our laudations, confound the arrogant (foes) of us who are the donors (of oblations).
