[rv-4-51] • 11 श्लोकाः

इदमु त्यत्पुरुतमं पुरस्ताज्ज्योतिस्तमसो वयुनावदस्थात् । नूनं दिवो दुहितरो विभातीर्गातुं कृणवन्नुषसो जनाय ॥

idamu tyatpurutamaṃ purastājjyotistamaso vayunāvadasthāt | nūnaṃ divo duhitaro vibhātīrgātuṃ kṛṇavannuṣaso janāya ||

This widely-spread and sense-bestowing light has sprung up in the east from out of the darkness; verily the brilliant Dawns, the daughters of heaven, are giving to man (the faculty to act).

अस्थुरु चित्रा उषसः पुरस्तान्मिता इव स्वरवोऽध्वरेषु । व्यू व्रजस्य तमसो द्वारोच्छन्तीरव्रञ्छुचयः पावकाः ॥

asthuru citrā uṣasaḥ purastānmitā iva svaravo'dhvareṣu | vyū vrajasya tamaso dvārocchantīravrañchucayaḥ pāvakāḥ ||

The many-limbed Dawns rise up in the east, like the pillars plural nted at sacrifices (round the altar); radiant and purifying, they are manifested, opening the gates of the obstructing gloom.

उच्छन्तीरद्य चितयन्त भोजान्राधोदेयायोषसो मघोनीः । अचित्रे अन्तः पणयः ससन्त्वबुध्यमानास्तमसो विमध्ये ॥

ucchantīradya citayanta bhojānrādhodeyāyoṣaso maghonīḥ | acitre antaḥ paṇayaḥ sasantvabudhyamānāstamaso vimadhye ||

The gloom-dispelling, affluent Dawns animate the pious worshippers to offer (sacrificial) treasure; may the churlish (traffickers) sleep on unawakened, in the unlovely depth of darkness.

कुवित्स देवीः सनयो नवो वा यामो बभूयादुषसो वो अद्य । येना नवग्वे अङ्गिरे दशग्वे सप्तास्ये रेवती रेवदूष ॥

kuvitsa devīḥ sanayo navo vā yāmo babhūyāduṣaso vo adya | yenā navagve aṅgire daśagve saptāsye revatī revadūṣa ||

Divine Dawns, may your chariot, whether old or new, be frequent at this day's (worship), wherewith, affluent Dawns, possessing riches, (you shine) upon the seven-mouthed (troop of the) Aṅgirasas, the observers of the nine or ten days' rite.

यूयं हि देवीॠतयुग्भिरश्वैः परिप्रयाथ भुवनानि सद्यः । प्रबोधयन्तीरुषसः ससन्तं द्विपाच्चतुष्पाच्चरथाय जीवम् ॥

yūyaṃ hi devīṝtayugbhiraśvaiḥ pariprayātha bhuvanāni sadyaḥ | prabodhayantīruṣasaḥ sasantaṃ dvipāccatuṣpāccarathāya jīvam ||

Divine Dawns, with horses that frequent sacrifices you quickly travel round the regions (of space); awake the sleeping being, whether biped or quadruped, to pursue (his functions).

क्व स्विदासां कतमा पुराणी यया विधाना विदधुॠभूणाम् । शुभं यच्छुभ्रा उषसश्चरन्ति न वि ज्ञायन्ते सदृशीरजुर्याः ॥

kva svidāsāṃ katamā purāṇī yayā vidhānā vidadhuṝbhūṇām | śubhaṃ yacchubhrā uṣasaścaranti na vi jñāyante sadṛśīrajuryāḥ ||

Where is that ancient one of those (Dawns), through whom the works of the Ṛbhus were accomplished? For as the bright Dawns happily proceed, they are not distinguished, being alike and undecaying.

ता घा ता भद्रा उषसः पुरासुरभिष्टिद्युम्ना ऋतजातसत्याः । यास्वीजानः शशमान उक्थैः स्तुवञ्छंसन्द्रविणं सद्य आप ॥

tā ghā tā bhadrā uṣasaḥ purāsurabhiṣṭidyumnā ṛtajātasatyāḥ | yāsvījānaḥ śaśamāna ukthaiḥ stuvañchaṃsandraviṇaṃ sadya āpa ||

Verily those auspicious Dawns have been of old, rich with desired blessings, truthful (bestowers) of the results of sacrifice; at which the sacrificer, adoring with (silent) praise, glorifying (with hymns), has quickly obtained wealth.

ता आ चरन्ति समना पुरस्तात्समानतः समना पप्रथानाः । ऋतस्य देवीः सदसो बुधाना गवां न सर्गा उषसो जरन्ते ॥

tā ā caranti samanā purastātsamānataḥ samanā paprathānāḥ | ṛtasya devīḥ sadaso budhānā gavāṃ na sargā uṣaso jarante ||

They spread around of smilar form, (coming) from the east, (coming) from the same region alike renowned; the divine Dawns, arousing the assembly of the sacrifice are glorified like the (rays) creative of the waters.

ता इन्न्वेव समना समानीरमीतवर्णा उषसश्चरन्ति । गूहन्तीरभ्वमसितं रुशद्भिः शुक्रास्तनूभिः शुचयो रुचानाः ॥

tā innveva samanā samānīramītavarṇā uṣasaścaranti | gūhantīrabhvamasitaṃ ruśadbhiḥ śukrāstanūbhiḥ śucayo rucānāḥ ||

Those Dawns proceed verily all alike, of similar form, of infinite hues, pure, bright, illumining, concealing by their radiant person ns the very great gloom.

रयिं दिवो दुहितरो विभातीः प्रजावन्तं यच्छतास्मासु देवीः । स्योनादा वः प्रतिबुध्यमानाः सुवीर्यस्य पतयः स्याम ॥

rayiṃ divo duhitaro vibhātīḥ prajāvantaṃ yacchatāsmāsu devīḥ | syonādā vaḥ pratibudhyamānāḥ suvīryasya patayaḥ syāma ||

Divine, resplendent daughters of heaven, bestow upon us wealth, comprehending progeny; awaking you for our benefit, may we be the lords of excellent descendants.

तद्वो दिवो दुहितरो विभातीरुप ब्रुव उषसो यज्ञकेतुः । वयं स्याम यशसो जनेषु तद्द्यौश्च धत्तां पृथिवी च देवी ॥

tadvo divo duhitaro vibhātīrupa bruva uṣaso yajñaketuḥ | vayaṃ syāma yaśaso janeṣu taddyauśca dhattāṃ pṛthivī ca devī ||

Daughters of heaven, resplendent Dawns, I address you (as) the announcer of the sacrificer; may we be (the possessors) of celebrity among men, and may heaven and the divine earth perpetuate (it).
