[rv-4-42] • 10 श्लोकाः

मम द्विता राष्ट्रं क्षत्रियस्य विश्वायोर्विश्वे अमृता यथा नः । क्रतुं सचन्ते वरुणस्य देवा राजामि कृष्टेरुपमस्य वव्रेः ॥

mama dvitā rāṣṭraṃ kṣatriyasya viśvāyorviśve amṛtā yathā naḥ | kratuṃ sacante varuṇasya devā rājāmi kṛṣṭerupamasya vavreḥ ||

Twofold is my empire, that of the whole kṣatriya race, and all the immortals are ours; the gods associate me with the acts of Varuṇa; I rule over (those) of the proximate form of man.

अहं राजा वरुणो मह्यं तान्यसुर्याणि प्रथमा धारयन्त । क्रतुं सचन्ते वरुणस्य देवा राजामि कृष्टेरुपमस्य वव्रेः ॥

ahaṃ rājā varuṇo mahyaṃ tānyasuryāṇi prathamā dhārayanta | kratuṃ sacante varuṇasya devā rājāmi kṛṣṭerupamasya vavreḥ ||

I am the king Varuṇa; on me (the gods) bestow those principal energies (that are) destructive of the asuras; (they) associate me with the worship of Varuṇa; I rule over (the nets) of the proximate form of man.

अहमिन्द्रो वरुणस्ते महित्वोर्वी गभीरे रजसी सुमेके । त्वष्टेव विश्वा भुवनानि विद्वान्त्समैरयं रोदसी धारयं च ॥

ahamindro varuṇaste mahitvorvī gabhīre rajasī sumeke | tvaṣṭeva viśvā bhuvanāni vidvāntsamairayaṃ rodasī dhārayaṃ ca ||

I am Indra, I am Varuṇa, I am those two in greatness; (I am) the vast, profound, beautiful, heaven and earth; intelligent, I give Tvaṣṭā-like animation to all beings; I uphold earth and heaven].

अहमपो अपिन्वमुक्षमाणा धारयं दिवं सदन ऋतस्य । ऋतेन पुत्रो अदितेॠतावोत त्रिधातु प्रथयद्वि भूम ॥

ahamapo apinvamukṣamāṇā dhārayaṃ divaṃ sadana ṛtasya | ṛtena putro aditeṝtāvota tridhātu prathayadvi bhūma ||

I have distributed the moisture-shedding waters; I have upheld the sky as the abode of the water; by the water I have become the preserver of the water, the son of Aditi, illustrating the threefold elementary space.

मां नरः स्वश्वा वाजयन्तो मां वृताः समरणे हवन्ते । कृणोम्याजिं मघवाहमिन्द्र इयर्मि रेणुमभिभूत्योजाः ॥

māṃ naraḥ svaśvā vājayanto māṃ vṛtāḥ samaraṇe havante | kṛṇomyājiṃ maghavāhamindra iyarmi reṇumabhibhūtyojāḥ ||

Warriors well mounted, ardent for contest invoke me; selected (combatants invoke) me in battle; I, the affluent Indra, instrumental gate the conflict, and, endowed with victorious prowess, I raise up the dust (in the battle).

अहं ता विश्वा चकरं नकिर्मा दैव्यं सहो वरते अप्रतीतम् । यन्मा सोमासो ममदन्यदुक्थोभे भयेते रजसी अपारे ॥

ahaṃ tā viśvā cakaraṃ nakirmā daivyaṃ saho varate apratītam | yanmā somāso mamadanyadukthobhe bhayete rajasī apāre ||

I have done all these (deeds); no one resists my divine, unsurpassed vigour; and when the Soma juices, when sacred songs, exhilarate me, then the unbounded heaven and earth are both alarmed.

विदुष्टे विश्वा भुवनानि तस्य ता प्र ब्रवीषि वरुणाय वेधः । त्वं वृत्राणि शृण्विषे जघन्वान्त्वं वृताँ अरिणा इन्द्र सिन्धून् ॥

viduṣṭe viśvā bhuvanāni tasya tā pra bravīṣi varuṇāya vedhaḥ | tvaṃ vṛtrāṇi śṛṇviṣe jaghanvāntvaṃ vṛtā~ ariṇā indra sindhūn ||

All beings recognize you (Varuṇa), and your, worshipper, address these (encomiums) to Varuṇa; you, Indra, are renowned as slaying Vṛtra; you have set the obstructed rivers free to flow.

अस्माकमत्र पितरस्त आसन्त्सप्त ऋषयो दौर्गहे बध्यमाने । त आयजन्त त्रसदस्युमस्या इन्द्रं न वृत्रतुरमर्धदेवम् ॥

asmākamatra pitarasta āsantsapta ṛṣayo daurgahe badhyamāne | ta āyajanta trasadasyumasyā indraṃ na vṛtraturamardhadevam ||

The seven ṛṣis were the protectors of this our (kingdom) when the son of Durgaha was in bonds; performing worship they obtained for (his queen) from the favour of Indra and Varuṇa, Trasadasyu, like Indra the slayer of foes, dwelling near the gods.

पुरुकुत्सानी हि वामदाशद्धव्येभिरिन्द्रावरुणा नमोभिः । अथा राजानं त्रसदस्युमस्या वृत्रहणं ददथुरर्धदेवम् ॥

purukutsānī hi vāmadāśaddhavyebhirindrāvaruṇā namobhiḥ | athā rājānaṃ trasadasyumasyā vṛtrahaṇaṃ dadathurardhadevam ||

The wife of Purukutsa propitiated you two, Indra and Varuṇa, with oblations and prostrations, and therefore you gave her the king Trasadasyu, the slayer of foes dwelling near the gods.

राया वयं ससवांसो मदेम हव्येन देवा यवसेन गावः । तां धेनुमिन्द्रावरुणा युवं नो विश्वाहा धत्तमनपस्फुरन्तीम् ॥

rāyā vayaṃ sasavāṃso madema havyena devā yavasena gāvaḥ | tāṃ dhenumindrāvaruṇā yuvaṃ no viśvāhā dhattamanapasphurantīm ||

May we, glorifying you both, be delighted by riches; may the gods be plural ased by oblations, the cows by pasture; and do you, Indra and Varuṇa, daily grant us that same cow, (riches) free from any imperfection.
