[rv-3-59] • 9 श्लोकाः

मित्रो जनान्यातयति ब्रुवाणो मित्रो दाधार पृथिवीमुत द्याम् । मित्रः कृष्टीरनिमिषाभि चष्टे मित्राय हव्यं घृतवज्जुहोत ॥

mitro janānyātayati bruvāṇo mitro dādhāra pṛthivīmuta dyām | mitraḥ kṛṣṭīranimiṣābhi caṣṭe mitrāya havyaṃ ghṛtavajjuhota ||

Mitra, when praised, animates men to exertion; Indra sustains both the earth and heaven; Mitra looks upon men with unclosing eyes; offer to Mitra the oblations of clarified butter.

प्र स मित्र मर्तो अस्तु प्रयस्वान्यस्त आदित्य शिक्षति व्रतेन । न हन्यते न जीयते त्वोतो नैनमंहो अश्नोत्यन्तितो न दूरात् ॥

pra sa mitra marto astu prayasvānyasta āditya śikṣati vratena | na hanyate na jīyate tvoto nainamaṃho aśnotyantito na dūrāt ||

May that mortal enjoy abundance, Mitra, who presents you, Āditya, (with offerings) at the sacred rite; protected by you he is not harmed; he is not overcome by any one; son reaches him not, either from afar or nigh.

अनमीवास इऴया मदन्तो मितज्ञवो वरिमन्ना पृथिव्याः । आदित्यस्य व्रतमुपक्षियन्तो वयं मित्रस्य सुमतौ स्याम ॥

anamīvāsa iḻayā madanto mitajñavo varimannā pṛthivyāḥ | ādityasya vratamupakṣiyanto vayaṃ mitrasya sumatau syāma ||

May we, exempt from disease, rejoicing in (abundant) food, roaming free over the wide (expanse) of the earth, diligent in the worship of Āditya, ever be in the good favour of Mitra.

अयं मित्रो नमस्यः सुशेवो राजा सुक्षत्रो अजनिष्ट वेधाः । तस्य वयं सुमतौ यज्ञियस्यापि भद्रे सौमनसे स्याम ॥

ayaṃ mitro namasyaḥ suśevo rājā sukṣatro ajaniṣṭa vedhāḥ | tasya vayaṃ sumatau yajñiyasyāpi bhadre saumanase syāma ||

This Mitra has been engendered adorable and to be served, the sovereign (over all), endowed with vigour, the creator (of the universe); may we ever be in the good favour, in the auspicious approbation, of this adorable (Āditya).

महाँ आदित्यो नमसोपसद्यो यातयज्जनो गृणते सुशेवः । तस्मा एतत्पन्यतमाय जुष्टमग्नौ मित्राय हविरा जुहोत ॥

mahā~ ādityo namasopasadyo yātayajjano gṛṇate suśevaḥ | tasmā etatpanyatamāya juṣṭamagnau mitrāya havirā juhota ||

The great Āditya, the animator of men to exertion, is to be approached with reverence; he is the giver of happiness to him who praises him; offer with fire the acceptable libation to that most glorifiable Mitra.

मित्रस्य चर्षणीधृतोऽवो देवस्य सानसि । द्युम्नं चित्रश्रवस्तमम् ॥

mitrasya carṣaṇīdhṛto'vo devasya sānasi | dyumnaṃ citraśravastamam ||

Desirable food and most renowned wealth are (the gifts) of the divine Mitra, the supporter of man.

अभि यो महिना दिवं मित्रो बभूव सप्रथाः । अभि श्रवोभिः पृथिवीम् ॥

abhi yo mahinā divaṃ mitro babhūva saprathāḥ | abhi śravobhiḥ pṛthivīm ||

The renowned Mitra, who by his might presides over heaven, is he who presides over the earth by (the gift of) food.

मित्राय पञ्च येमिरे जना अभिष्टिशवसे । स देवान्विश्वान्बिभर्ति ॥

mitrāya pañca yemire janā abhiṣṭiśavase | sa devānviśvānbibharti ||

The five classes of men have repaired to the victorious Mitra, for he supports all the gods.

मित्रो देवेष्वायुषु जनाय वृक्तबर्हिषे । इष इष्टव्रता अकः ॥

mitro deveṣvāyuṣu janāya vṛktabarhiṣe | iṣa iṣṭavratā akaḥ ||

Mitra is he who among tods and men bestows food as the reward of pious acts upon the man who has prepared (for him) the lopped sacred grass.
